Also about the game not being particularly challenging, if you look in game files, specifically in documents were you'll find a file called user.INI, you'll find a line of text that says Difficulty=DifficultyEasy. This is actually a line of code where you can change the game's difficulty by replacing the word Easy with either the word Medium or Hard. I'm currently playing the game with the difficulty set on hard and so far there are four noticeable changes: 1: Enemies seem to deal more damage to Harry 2:the spell learning minigame is sped up by a significant margin 3: in dueling the Spells cast by the opponent travel faster (almost as fast as a bullet might I add) 4: The basilisk is even tougher than before since it has more health and its venom travels faster

@@PhilOfGlimmer Figured it was worth mentioning as well, but something that brought about loads more playability for me was finding out about the debug mode settings and noclipping about the school, increasing and decreasing the game speed, level select, and more. If you go into one of the config files in the My Documents files for the game, there's a setting around the lines of something like bDebugModeEnable=False and if you set it to True then that'll do the do. As far as I know, all of the first three games have it with I think some limitations and differences here and there. Might be interesting to do a video going through the differences and things you can do with it between the games if that suits your fancy. I'd love to see it myself at least. My most recent playthrough I was determined to get as few house points as possible and lose the House Cup. Did you know if you walk in on Professor McGonagall's Transfiguration class you can lose house points?? Found that out only this year! I kept walking in on her until my points went to zero. Something I loved in the first 3 PC games of the franchise was the feeling of continuity by keeping spells like Lumus, Alohomora and Flipendo throughout the three games. It really made it feel like a single continuous universe rather than three games that happened to follow one storyline and helped expand Hogwarts and the exploration without relying on brand new gimmicks but just polishing pre-existing ones. I'll NEVER forget spells like Lumus, Flipendo, Spongify as long as I live. Also, the pause menu theme is HEAVENLY!

Hogwarts is like a weird non-place in these games. It's not always like the one in the film, and certain areas seem impossible. How are there challenges under (or in) the castle? Why, in the first game, would certain areas change when you come back? Even the bonus bean room seems nonsensical, and there are loads of strange secret areas. Even the makeup of the rooms is strange - why are there platforms everywhere, and why do they move? Occasionally, I still dream of rooms like those in these games. There's something really uncanny about them.

It's a quirk of game design. The locations in this game, as with others, are designed to 'be' game spaces. People don't live in game spaces, they're not world spaces. Hence the 'uncanny' feeling. They might look like world spaces, but they're explicitly designed game spaces. But you're right, it does prompt a strange feeling. Because something you recognise, quite clearly, doesn't look completely right.

When I played this game, I spent a lot of time looking for ways to get it to glitch out. - On the way to Hagrid's hut, you can climb up the sides of the path. The trees on top have no hit boxes, so you can walk through them which will take you to an open field that extends to the border of the map. -There's a toilet in the girl's bathroom that spawns gnomes. It's supposed to spawn a finite number of them which when reached, will no longer allow you to cast spells on it. If you place a gnome behind the toilet so that a spell aimed at the gnome hits the toilet instead, you can spawn an unlimited number of gnomes. -You fall faster than the speed at which a spell travels. If you're falling and you cast a spell on a gnome, you can pick the gnome up before the spell reaches it. The spell will start circling around your arm until it runs into something, you throw the gnome, or it goes too long without hitting anything. -If you have potion ingredients and a gnome walks near a cauldron, you will start making potions even if you're nowhere near one. -If you are one bronze wizard card short of a new stamina bar and you die right in front of one so that your falling animation causes you to fall backwards onto the wizard card, you will crash the game.

Omg i did the first one too! I always wondered if there was anything behind those trees up there so I jumped till i was able to go up. I have no idea how did i got there but it happened a few times, does that happened to you too?

re: the 2nd one, i remember using the same trick to get unlimited jellybeans and potion ingredients! specific toilets spawn jellybeans/flobberworms/bark once. but if you throw a gnome into those cubicles, position them behind the toilet, you get to cast flipendo for infinite profit :)
@AD240pCharlie5 ай бұрын
Similar to the 2nd one, there's an armor in the Skurge challenge located close to a Lumos figure, so if you place yourself so that you can target the figure with Lumos from beside the armour it will keep hitting the armor. And since the game thinks it means you're casting Flipendo, it can give you infinite beans.

Dude, this game is my childhood! I freakin' adore this game! I used to play this, when I was about 6 with my aunt! I loved to mess around with all the spells (especially Spongify), and searching for all the secrets with her. Here's a few hidden things I found out, when I picked up and played this game again recently (Super glad I did), and messed around with the ghost cheat in debug mode: 7:29 Funny thing: If you cast Skurge on Peeves as soon as he comes out of any chest, you can clip him through the floor and make him fall out of bounds! I love doing that! XD 16:04 Fun fact: The door to the Forbidden forest is always open at night, because the game treats night schoolgrounds as a separate area, from the daytime grounds! If you use debug mode and ghost through the locked door to Hagrid's hut right after the whomping willow, you can just simply enter the forbidden forest and be on your way to Aragog, skipping a large portion of the game! Though sadly by doing that, you essentially soft-lock yourself, as the game does not give you the spells you're supposed to know at that point, meaning you can only cast the spells you know at the start of the game. You can ghost your way through to Aragog, but since you don't know Rictusempra, you've reached a dead end, and need to restart the game! (I find these types of hacks and glitches fun and interesting, so I wanted to share) 17:01 Similar to the forest, the loading trigger for the chamber of secrets is always active. As early as your first day at Hogwarts, you can go up to the third floor and ghost through to the girls bathroom, followed by ghosting into the loading trigger in the sink, which is active, and will transport you to the chamber. Just like in the forest skip, you have only the starting spells, so you'll have to ghost through most of it, but you CAN reach the final boss and beat it, since you fight him with the sword of Gryffindor. Effectively skipping the entire game! (Let's see how fast YOU can beat the game!) 19:29 One final tidbit: House points don't really matter in this game, unless you want to go to the bean bonus room. At the end of the game, Albus will always pronounce Gryffindor as the winning house, even if you try to earn the least amount of points on purpose. (LOL) Hope you enjoyed these little tidbits, have fun and peace out! 😎

I know this comment is old, but I wanted to add that in debug mode you can press a F# key (I forgot which one) to unlock all the spells early. I used it to discover all of the secrets in the hub areas at once. The real soft lock can happen if you go to Potions classroom before the game ulocks it and open the chest containing mucus and the bark needed for potion making tutorial. Its script requiers you to open the chest first, collect materials and then go to the cauldrun nearby. If the turial starts and the chest is already open, game/ Snape will still order you to open it and stop you from going to the cauldrun, even if you have all necessary items and thus you are stuck here forever.

I agree that Harry Potter and the Chamber Of Secrets PC Game is the best out of the first three for many reasons 1. There are MORE Wizard Cards that you can collect in this game- #1- 25 Wizard Cards, #2- 101 Wizards Cards, and #3- 80 Wizard Cards (and even if you miss a Wizard Card in the 2nd game, you can always buy it from a student that sells cards in exchange for Bertie Botts Beans unlike the 1st and 3rd games where you'd have to start the game over if you miss one in order to collect it) 2. The Chocolate Frogs- In the first and third games, the Frogs only sit or hop up and down in one spot, but in the second game, the Frogs try to hop away from you, making it a little more challenging to collect them, you can either force the Frog into a corner or walk backwards into it to pick it up. 3. You have more health in the 2nd game than you do in the 1st and 3rd games, each time you collect 10 new Bronze Wizard Cards, you would be given another bolt of stamina for a total of 6, max. 4. I love the Gnomes, especially in the 2nd game where if they attack you, you won't lose any health and you can still get your beans back by casting Flipendo on a Gnome. 5. The Dueling Club which you can use to increase your stash of Bertie Botts Every Flavor Beans. There are many other reasons, but I'll just leave it at that.

I made the same comment on another video which reviewed the first three PC Harry Potter games, but I'm really curious if other people know about this so I'll post it here as well: In the Chamber of Secrets PC game there's a really funny sort of bug in Moaning Myrtle's bathroom that allows you to summon an infinite amount of gnomes (or get an infinite amount of resources). Basically all you have to do is the following: climb on the toilet that only opens when Moaning Myrtle floats above it, which allows you to jump towards other toilets with closed doors. Casting flipendo on these toilets will cause them to spawn things like beans or a gnome depending on the toilet, after that the toilet becomes useless. However, if you take a gnome and put it behind/next to a toilet, you can infinitely cast flipendo on the toilet by aiming at the gnome behind it. You're kind of tricking the game into thinking the flipendo was cast on the toilet instead, which allows you to summon an infinite amount of gnomes when you use this on the gnome spawning toilet. I remember me and my younger brother accidentally finding this out when we were like 6 or 7 and we just completely lost our minds. Needless to say we turned the entire second floor of the castle into one giant gnome infestation, although the frame rate wasn't very happy about that. :p

Even the fact that gnomes turn mushrooms into beans, which I did not know for years of playing before I randomly discovered it. Great job. 😉😁

I played the first game on the PS1, but Chamber of Secrets on the PC was my most favourite, and most memorable. I didn't appreciate that you couldn't Flipendo everywhere, nor the fact that it was missing the Whomping Willow boss fight that was on the PS1- but my god, this game had such memorable music (The hogwarts grounds music is still playing in my mind all these year later) and a breadth of wonder and exploration that I played it many times. Hogwarts was always a good fit for a Metroidvania design. The color and art design is so good that it holds up pretty well in 2021.

I remember saving just before the Slytherin room, and then when the Polyjuice potion wore out, I tried seeing how many Slytherin kids I could collect to chase me. My friend laughed and said it looked like Harry was leading a bunch of school kids.

Can't believe you upload this video on 2020, that's last year. It's really Jolly and tear-jerking for me as I played the game at like... 9 to 12 years old. Been like uh... 3 years for me since I played this game. How times goes, this year will make it 4 years. God bless my father. The man has introduced me to so many entertaining things. I had an amazing childhood being alive. Brings tears... I even listen to the Original Soundtracks of this game. I can even play it now if I wanted to. God bless everyone, it feels so darn good. Being united together by a franchise and series made a long time ago. You got another supporter bro.

This was my favorite Harry Potter game - it seemed bigger than the first one and a bit more interesting to explore than the third one. I loved collecting the wizard cards! Btw, really like your channel. I love how smaller channels take less known games to review :)

There was a bathroom on one of the middle floors, with toilets in stalls that could be hit with Flipendo to release various things - one contained a gnome, which you could knock out and put behind a toilet and keep casting Flipendo at to get infinite gnomes. I remember having hundreds running amok on the Grand Staircase...

Ah chamer of secrets, one of my childhood favourites. Though curiosly enough though i haven't done the research to verify this. Chamber of secrets was made before philospher's stone, as i have been hearing in recent years.

Great video and a fun trip down memory lane. You did a really outstanding job playing the right music from each level whenever you were talking about them, even stuff that wasn't on the soundtrack album like the Harry-as-Goyle music which is just so fun and weird as hell.

This game brings back so many memories and it's so cool to see all this love for it still strong after so many years. I recently was able to replay them and while they definitely feel different than when I was a kid, they still had the same old magic that made me dream of this wizarding world. Thank you so much for going into the details of this game, and the ones like it, and really showing just how magical they are. They were a very special part of my childhood and it's nice to see others give it so much appreciation and love.

My favorite memory of this game is throwing the gnome behind a toilet and casting a spell at him through the toilet. The spell hits the toilet, which would otherwise stop dispensing beans after a couple straight hits.

Ironic how much Chamber of Secrets got the most attention, when it comes video games. It is said that it is the best Harry Potter film & I heard that the console versions of Chamber of Secrets are really good. And the PC version looks fine. I originally played Harry Potter games on PC, so that's where my adventure for the games began. Altough I never played Chamber of Secrets on PC unfortenatly.

One of my absolute favorites as a kid. I spent hours playing with my twin brother. One of us would control the walking the other would control the wand. We actually got really good at it. May he rest in peace. I still have the games and I still go back to them. Though it is just not the same without my twin brother. Still, it brings back memories of better times with him.

an year too late but i will leave a comment, watching your vids brought back some memories of harry potter 2 so i went and installed the game and 100% completed it in half a day with a nap and lunch in the middle turns out even the worst parts of the game weren't as bad as i remembered when i was 8, also, the battles seemed so much harder when i was younger, like, they are easy, most of the times i got hit, i was doing weird casting a spell and quickly changing to expeliermus to repel, i'm glad i found your channel and i could revisit such a wonderful game

I played this so much as a kid. Also played the Game Cube version A LOT. It's crazy to me that there were so many different version of this game. PC, GBC, GBA, PS1 and GC/PS2/XBOX, and there were some minor diffrences between the "main" console ones as well. I did have the PS2 version as well, but never liked it quite as much as the GC version.
@PhilOfGlimmer3 жыл бұрын
It's mad to me that they made so many different versions 🤯 I had the PS2 one too I think, haven't played that in ages, I remember there being a gnome tossing bit at the beginning at the burrow that the PC didn't have I think?
@Blixthand3 жыл бұрын
Yup, gnome tossing, and you had to fight a bewitched laundry machine gone haywire. You also got to play through diagon alley where you had to find stuff Ginny lost. And a lot of nightly stealth missions looking for books or spells or items. One of them involved Neville being trapped behind a tapestry, and instead of calling someone able to help, Harry had to sneak out of the castle in the middle of the night and go to the greenhouses to find a spell book with difindo in it.
@thesnesgeek3 жыл бұрын
Did you know while the pc version follow the movie there are two minor but major differences. 1: the deathday party is completly removed which means that Harry hears the voice for the first time when he exits the potions class. 2: Ron doesn’t tag along with Harry upon leaving for the Slythering common room.
@PhilOfGlimmer3 жыл бұрын
Haha I always found it funny that Ron and Hermione didn't take the polyjuice potion and leave Harry to deal with it by himself, also the way they act surprised like "Harry?" after he changes to Goyle 😅
