The only time you sound like "That Annoying Guy" when comparing the book to its adaptations is when you're complaining about something like Harry having blue eyes in the movie and green eyes in the book. Cutting out important plot points and changing characterization that ruins their development are legitimate reasons to compare the book to the movie.

Thank you. I actually think Voldemort having blue eyes makes him scarier. It shows he was once human. But now, his eyes are the only bit of humanity he possesses.

So, let me talk about my favorite moment in this movie. The moment where Snape puts his finger to his mouth, wand up, to Harry, to let him know everything would be okay. Then, he walks up the stairs, and kills Dumbeldore. This, to me, is my favorite change from the book - now, granted, I would have liked it to play out the same, but this little moment is so good for so many reasons. Upon watching the first time, the audience sees Snape come in. This is the defining moment for him. We have already seen him begrudgingly accept to do the deed Draco cannot do should his moment come. For Harry, this is the last straw with Snape - all these years, people have been telling him to trust Snape, trust Snape, and Harry constantly doesn't. Now, with Dumbeldore's request being to find and trust Snape, Harry relents. Snape has been exonerated year after year, and Harry finally says: "Okay." He sees Snape, and Snape gives him a command. "Be quiet." This doubles up with Dumbeldore's command, "Hide." Harry listens, obeying Dumbeldore's request. Trust Snape. Then, Snape goes upstairs and kills Dumbledore. This is why Harry is so angry in the movies and thus tightens his bond with Dumbeldore even more - this moment makes the reveal that Snape was "good" later hit him more because he not only finds out that Dumbeldore was sort of a dick, but Snape was on Harry's side all while their both dead and they were both because Harry did not intervene. If there was no moment like this in the movies, Harry would have never had a deep enough reason to be involved and care as he did in the book because all of that relationship development was left out. This makes Harry's decision to stop everyone from dying by going into the Forest more impactful because, well, he's been at fault too many times, rather than just being frozen. He sat back and didn't do anything. It was time for him to change that. Sorry for the rant! Love your videos Jeremy!
@msnorringtonsims65367 жыл бұрын
I completely get what you mean about the lightning struck tower scene. I understand why so many scenes with the invisibility cloak were cut out because it's so cumbersome to film. But in cutting it out here, it almost changes the motivations of the characters. BUT in its own way it still works. See, in the book, Harry was INCAPABLE of doing anything to help. And he has to live with that feeling of helplessness. He hoped when Snape arrived he was there to help. He wanted to believe Dumbledore was right about the guy. Only, in Harry's eyes, Dumbledore was wrong. Leaving Harry feeling utterly betrayed and angry that he hadnt been able to do anything. In the film, Harry is perfectly capable of speaking out, interfering, attacking Draco and the others. Only he made a conscious choice to trust his mentor. Even as the situation was clearly going south, Harry stood there doing nothing because the man he loved and trusted told him to. He chose that moment to take a leap of faith and trust Snape only to have it all backfire on him. The guilt he was left with was even worse because he COULD have done something if he hadn't chose to listen to or trust Dumbledore. Fueling his hatred of Snape even more and setting up a greater foundation of doubt of Dumbledore in TDH.

Rowling has admitted that the Ron/Hermione romance was a mistake. She wanted as a fan of her own characters to see them together instead of respecting what the book ended up conveying. She reflects that it felt a little forced and she probably wouldn't have made them a pair if she was just honest to the way the characters had naturally developed in her story, rather than what she wanted to see from the start.
@pratt1235 жыл бұрын
The funny thing is that the Ron/Hermione romance was better developed in books 3 to 5 than in book 6. A lot of Goblet and Order of the Phoenix subplots were completely dropped in Half Blood Prince.

True I just don't think it was built up correctly. It was bickering between them and then just straight up transitioned into Hermione falling for him. I guess in Goblet of fire when Hermione frustratingly tells Ron to pluck up the courage and ask me to the dance before someone else does suggested something.
@somethingabstractiguess Жыл бұрын
I think Ron and Hermione are fine together. Harry and Hermione makes absolutely no sense to me. Harry is often annoyed by her in the books and there was never any hint of romance. I think the reason people wish Harry and Hermione were a couple is because Emma Watson is much more attractive than Hermione was written to be. And we all know that the hero gets the pretty girl… in the books, Ginny is the “pretty girl” and is quite a catch, so it all makes sense.

Harry/Ginny, Ron/Hermione, Neville, Fred and even Malfoy all married people from their year. All except Luna Lovegood who married Rolf Scamander. When Half Blood prince came out my mom bought three copies, one for her, one for me, and one for my uncle and we all read it at the same time. Once we'd all finished my mom asked me what we thought of Snape, my uncle and I both said, almost simultaneously "He's a good guy." and my mom (a Potter Fanatic) nearly flipped out. It just made the most sense and then once Deathly Hallows came out our thoughts were confirmed. Was he a great person? No. But ultimately he worked against Voldemort and for Harry even if it was really for selfish reasons. He also took a bullet for Draco, preventing a young confused boy from staining his hands with blood forever.

My biggest complaint about this movie was the omission of Dumbldore's funeral. The chapter in the book was amazing, heartfelt, and showed how important Dumbledore was to the entire Wizarding World and not just Hogwarts. I couldn't wait to see the epicness of this farewell come to life on the screen. But all we got were some wands in the air. As pretty as that was, it wasn't a proper send off for such a beloved character. R.I.P. Dumbledore.

Exactly. I get that movies need to cut things out from the book --- you know what they could have cut out? Lavender Brown. Was her romance with Ron needed for this movie? No. Did the romance lead him to get with Hermione? No, because he couldn't remember saying her name in the hospital wing, which leaves Hermione a bit down. So what was the point? Why did we waste runtime on that when we could have seen Riddle memories?

Other than the orphanage scene, there's a flashback where Voldemort is applying for a teaching position at Hogwarts so he's talking to Dumbledore. He's just starting to make a name for himself as a dark character, and Dumbledore doesn't buy his act for one second. (I forget if Dumbledore theorizes just ulterior motives or that Voldemort wants to convert kids to his cause). Either way, present day Dumbledore figures Voldemort used that visit to try and find a relic to make a horcrux as well.

Amy Brown I believe it was a flashback, and it was after Voldemort's appearance had already begun to change. He came to Hogwarts to apply for the Defense Against the Dark Arts position, but Dumbledore (rather politely) turned him away. Dumbledore also suspected he had come back for another reason, but he didn't realize it was likely to attempt to collect another Founder's Artifact until well after he suspected Voldemort had created at least a couple of Horcruxes. Incidentally, this refusual to hire Voldemort also led to the theory of the position being cursed, as none of the following professors who occupied the position lasted more than a year.

HBP is my favorite book in the series and the big scene I wish they would've put in the movie from the book is when Voldemort comes to interview for the Defense Against the Dark Arts job. I don't mind the romance in the movie, but I wish they did it a little better. I'm sure Harry didn't HAVE to end up with Ginny but come on, hot, tough, smart, badass redhead who's not afraid to get in anyone face and throw down? What's not to love?

I actually wasn't as annoyed with this movie as I was with Goblet of Fire & Order of the Phoenix, but I do miss all the really interesting little things & great scenes that were left out of every movie starting with Prisoner of Azkaban-- and even more annoyed that half of those scenes were filmed for HPPoA & were cut out in the end to focus on the drama. Although, I think the movies that were most disserviced by this were Order of the Phoenix & Deathly Hallows Pt2.

InBedGamer I might be totally agreeing with this list but I can only verify for the top 3, haven't really thought of it further until now that I saw this list.

I agree so much. I remember just being upset at how much was cut out. Especially with the half blood Prince stuff. The movie did pretty much nothing to explain why Snape is the half blood Prince.

I've always felt the characters portrayed in the movies were far more shallow than the ones in the books. I don't want to be one of those guys either, but DAMN could they have done things differently to make the audience feel more of an impact. I really felt this in Order of the Phoenix as well.

1. Deathly Hallows Pt 2 2. Prisoner of Azkaban 3. Order of the Phoenix 4. Half-Blood Prince 5. Deathly Hallows Pt 1 6. Chamber of Secrets 7. Sorcerer's Stone 8. Goblet of Fire I really hated Goblet of Fire because that's really the movie where the book material was severely cut out and the rest of the movies afterwards just had to cope. Also it's just not a good film to me, especially since the book was one of the best.

Easily the worst Harry Potter film. This is a world of magic and intrigue, I don't give a single flying fuck about the characters' teenage relationship drama. And the core mystery, Slughorn's memory is weaselled out of him so easily it barely even seems like an obstacle.

the book is as bad: shittone of pages where nothing happen, no struggles at all and cringworthy pushed romance that is not even romance.
