They don't explain this in the film, but its an important detail: the map was created by Lupin, Sirius, Pettigrew (Scabbers) and James (Harry's dad). The title on the map says, "Messrs. Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs present to you the Marauder's Map." Moony is Lupin (werewolf), Wormtail is Pettigrew (rat), Padfoot is Sirius (dog) and Prongs is James (stag). Their friend group called themselves the Marauders and they terrorized the school with pranks. The three friends learned how to transform into animals so that they could help Lupin on the nights he transformed. Also, for me, this film is where the story truly begins. So much happens, so many things are revealed, questions are answered. It just gets better and better!

Literally EVERYTHING in the film is important and to be remembered. But up until now things were explained more. Here is when it’s jumps off in so many ways. Because the names and connections were discussed but to most people it could be forgotten or overlooked as filler or something. Especially getting into the last two films where there are call backs to this movie with characters and names not spoken since.

They also don’t explain why Lupin and Snape mysteriously appear in the shrieking shack. Lupin was looking at the map and saw Sirius, Pettigrew, Harry, Ron, and Hermione go to the shack. He realized from seeing Pettigrew’s name that Sirius was framed. He raced off to help. Snape later came to Lupin’s office to give him a potion to help with the werewolf effects. He saw the map, which Lupin left open, so he followed. Why they didn’t add 2-3 lines to the script to explain this is beyond me.

It doesn't really make it clear in the films, but Hermione's cat, Crookshanks, kept going after Scabbers because the cat KNEW it was a baddie transformed into an animal. Crookshanks is not an ordinary cat, and Sirius was able to get into Hogwarts because Crookshanks was helping him!

A little detail: the Shrieking Shack was called that way because, while in school, Lupin was kept there while on his werewolf form. Since he couldn't reach anybody, he would bite himself. Hence the screaming that gave the shack its name. The Whomping Willow was planted at the entrance so nobody would get in. It was Dumbledore's idea. Just something that wasn't in the movie.

There is a reason Lupin kept giving Harry chocolate every time the dementors attacked him. The dementors suck out all your good feelings, leaving you feeling nothing but hopelessness. This is what depression is. Chocolate, especially dark chocolate, contains a chemical that helps alleviate the symptoms of depression. J.K. Rowling says that she wrote about the dementors after going through a bout with depression. There is a clue in the names Remus Lupin (werewolf) and Sirius Black (black dog) regarding their animagus status. Lupin sounds like the word "Lupine", which comes from the Latin "Lupus", meaning "wolf" , and "Sirius" is derived from the star, Sirius, which is called the "Dog Star" because it's the brightest star in the constellation Canus Major, or "Big Dog"

Fun fact: When J K Rowling wrote the books her idea was that the readers would be the same age as Harry, Ron & Hermione. As they progressed through each year of secondary school so would the readers. As a consequence each book becomes more adult and the story gets darker.

It's partially true. Originally the books were aimed at an older audience. But Scholastic got the publishing rights for the USA, and they're a children's publishing company. So she made that correlation at that time. I haven't gotten a hold of the original UK released books, but I've heard they're much more mature and dark in comparison to the Scholastic ones.

Sirius escaped Azkaban and eluded the dementors because he is an unregistered animagus (Mcgonagall is registered and she turns into a cat). As a dog the dementors couldn’t sense him so they basically didn’t see him. And why Harry saw his dad is because Harry is supposed to look just like his dad just with his moms eyes. It’s also why the wizards recognized him before they knew it was him cause he’s a mini-James. In this film Harry is 13 and James was only 21 when he died, so Harry is looking even more similar to James

Here's a piece of trivia not in the movie. When they were filming the scene with all the students sleeping in the Great Hall, Alan Rickman (who played Snape) planted a fart machine next to where Harry was sleeping and kept the remote so that every time they tried to film Dumbledore and Snape walking through, it sounded like Harry was farting.

Just for a little heads up on backstory from the book that might make it all a bit more interesting, Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs were the names of Harry's dad (Prongs), Professor Lupin (Moony), Peter Pettigrew (Wormtail), and Sirius as Padfoot who were the original creators of the Marauder's Map. That's how Lupin knew how to activate it when he used it to see Harry coming to see him and immediately identified it as a map when he brought Harry to his office after Snape caught him.

Great reaction, my friends! Thank you so much :) Most people don`t realize that Harry isn`t just "The Boy Who Lived". Harry stopped and therefore changed Voldemort into the being he is now and thereby ended the previous War, and defeated the dark wizards. In other circumstances, there would be glorious oil paintings and statues of Harry all over the wizarding world. Of course, that wouldn`t be good for him while attending school. But after the last HP part, it would be appropriate.

In a later book it is mentioned that the Potters had a half neasle (magical) cat. The theory is that cat was Crookshanks. Crookshanks helped Black because he recognized his dog form. Crookshanks also always attracted Pettigrew because he recognized his rat form and was there when he betrayed the Potters.

You guys nailed it. All of the main characters are great, but the whole series is about Harry growing up. So he's the central character. Which ties into another thing about the series - each book deals with one year, so in each book the kids are a year older, and as they mature the problems they deal with get more serious. A couple of things you might have noticed: Expelliarmus is called the disarming charm, and sometimes that's what it does - as when Remus uses it to disarm Harry in the shack. OTOH, two minutes later Harry uses the same spell to toss Snape across the room and knock him out. Apparently "Disarm" can mean different things at different times. Trelawney (the Divination Professor) actually can make accurate prophecies - but she doesn't control it or even remember it after she's done it. So most of what she teaches is fake; she can do it but she doesn't know how she does it or how to teach it..

This is my favorite Harry Potter Movie too. A couple of interesting facts I’m not sure you noticed. The three names on the Marauder’s map were nicknames for Harry’s fathers freinds. Messrs Moony(Prof. Lupin), Wormtail(Peter Petegrew), Padfoot(Siryus Black), and Prongs(James Potter). Also did you notice that there was a different actor playing Dumbledore? One of the things that was left out of the movie but was in The Prisoner of Azkaban novel is that James Potter (Harry's father), Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, and Peter Pettigrew were the original inventors of The Marauders Map. That is the reason Professor Lupin knew how to use it. When the original Marauders were students in Hogwarts they were all best friends. When James, Sirius and Peter found out that Remus is a werewolf they decided to become Animagus (wizards that can willfully magically turn into an animal just like Professor McGonagall can turn into a cat) because werewolves don't attack other animals and Remus' friends didn't want him to be alone during the full moon period. This is why the map reveals the weird names when you use the "I solemnly swear I am up to no good" spell. They were the nicknames of the Marauders. Mooney is Remus Lupin because he is a werewolf. Padfood is Sirius Black because his animagus form is a dog. Wormtail is Peter Pettigrew because his animagus form is a rat. And James Potter is Prongs because his animagus form is a stag. Dumbledore knew about Remus' condition and how Remus became a werewolf when he was only a very small child. So he had the Womping Willow tree planted and had a tunnel put in so that Remus can hide in the Shrieking Shack during the full moon cycle. 🌜🌕🌛🐺🐶🦌🐀🪄🌳🏚

the writers of The Marauders Map- Prongs (deer antlers) is Harry's dad, James, Padfoot (dog's padded feet) is Sirius Black, Moony is Remus Lupin (lupus in Latin means wolf- HEAVY foreshadowing) and Wormtail (a rat's tail, is Peter Pettigrew- 4 best friends while at Hogwarts. James, Sirius and Peter learned how to transform into animals so they could go with Lupin when he transformed into the werewolf- he wouldn't harm them in their animal state. Dumbledore would sneak Lupin out once a month during the full moon- take him to the Shrieking Shake- it only became known as that after Lupin started going there- his shrieks were heard throughout Hogsmeade. The tunnel leading there was covered by the Whomping Willow so students wouldn't try to get through it.

Nobody likes snape or trusts him, but you really see he's still a real teacher, and he's usually giving the antagonists (or who we think is the antagonists) a hard time. When the kids were boutta be attacked by Lupin werewolf, Snape put the kids behind him to protect them. He ain't no coward, and as coarse as he is, he's always been trying to protect them despite disliking them

He never protected the kids at this point, in fact he was unbearable in the prisoner of Azkaban book with how he treated Harry especially to the point that dumbledore was even done with Snape. I’m so happy to see this reaction! I’ve been to Universal many times. They used to have a Harry Potter celebration every January at Universal. Some of the actors from the movies would be there and we got to get their autographs. I’ve met the twins twice, Bonnie Wright, who plays Ginny, twice, and Rupert Grint (Ron) and Matthew Lewis (Neville) once. There are also three other actresses that I’ve met, but they are not until the future movies so I will wait until you are introduced to them. My favorite ride is escape from Gringotts.

The Harry Potter book series had a truly profound impact on my childhood. I picked up the first book had a Scholastic book fair the year it was released, and I knew nothing about it. I fell in love with the magic of it all. It was an escape for me as a child. Each following book released on my birthday week almost every year after and I would reread all previous during the lead up. My cat is named Lord Voldemort, and my best friend and I share matching deathly hallows tattoos. It makes me so happy to see people still becoming fans of something so important to me so many years after it has come to an end. I recommend seeing the Cursed Child play whenever you get the chance! You guys mentioning butterbeer brought back such memories! Went there around 7-8 years ago. It is SO GOOD! Absolutely give it a try next time you go - it's not too sweet, but rich and if you like fountain drinks it's excellent. Been too long for me to know for sure how to describe the taste but I've been a water (and occasional milkshake/adult beverage) person since 2011 & it's the only soda I'll ever want drink again. A Boggart in English and Celtic mythology is a small hairy creature similar to an elf or goblin, they're actually a good thing to have around, they help with chores around the home, typically on farms. You pay them in milk or a bowl of porridge, but if you mistreat them or pay them unfairly they will become evil and play pranks on you forever, even if you move home, if you give them clothes they will get upset and leave. Alot of Harry Potter has it's roots in old English and Celtic myth

Doesn’t explain it in the movies but in the book it does. The people who made the Marauders map moony, wormtail, padfoot, and prongs were lupin who was the werewolf, wormtail was the peter who turned into the rat, padfoot was Sirius who turned into the dog, and prongs was Harry’s dad who turned into a stag. They were all best friends in school. That’s how lupin knew how to use the map

When the PrizOfAzka book first came out, I started reading it on the Shinkansen from Tokyo to Kyoto where I was headed for a conference. Kyoto is my fav city to visit in Japan, but all that I wanted to do was go back to the hotel or sit at a cafe and read the book rather than mess around Gion or the rest of the joint. I last went to Universal Studios during "Mid-Tour leave" from Afghanistan, in Oct 2010. Hogwarts Castle had just been converted from the previous castle ride, "Dueling Dragons," and Hogsmeade was under construction. I'll pick Universals' Park over Disneys' any day of the year.

My daughter was actually there & face timed me on her phone & that head actually talked to me & made a joke about how I must be magic to talk & not be there. Im sure more people will tell you, but Richard Harris who played Dumbledore passed away between potter 2 and 3 filming. So Dumbledore was played by Michael Gambone for the remainder of the movies. I wish Richard had survived long enough to complete the series. He was an amazing actor and i loved his portrayal of Dumbledore.

This is my favorite Potter movie and book. This is where the series starts getting darker. I highly recommend reading the books if you haven’t. They are soooo good, practically page turners, and you get a lot of details that the movies left out. Anyway, loved your reaction. Enjoy the rest of the series!

Most people didn't notice that Prof Dumbledore wasn't the same actor. He passed away between films and they had to replace him. The new actor fit right in amazingly.

Emma Thompson, who plays the sometimes-psychic-but mostly-not divination teacher, used to be married to Kenneth Branagh, who played Gilderoy Lockhart in the previous movie (I probably commented the reverse on his, or I did on some reaction video anyway). She also won a Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar for the script of _Sense and Sensibility._ She was recently working on the book for a _Nanny McPhee_ musical. She wrote the screenplay for that movie too.

Best Movie in the Franchise by far and it's so much better the second time round when you pick up on all the signs. Alfonso Cuaron's only movie in the series and he did a fantastic job in maturing the experience and making it almost a thriller movie.

Love how everyone I know an heard speaking about Harry Potter, become big kids an wish you went to a school like that! You guys are even more invested in this series! Knowing some back story is essential to watching these films. The books are jam-packed with all the extra information surrounding characters. The Scottish castle it was filmed in is not too far away from where I live.

Butter Beer in the movie is actually a Alcholic Beer. They start drinking it later in year 6, as if they where in there college years. In the bar chillin. A teacher is seen drunk on it. Funny part youll see later. But in real life they just made it as a butterscotch cream soda because knowing kids are gonna want to taste it too. They made it more family friendly drink. Non alcholic..

Definitely my favorite out of all. But they were all good! You two are just too much fun. No one has mentioned it, but the books have more things in them. The books on tape (or CD or whatever is the cool thing these days) are excellent. The person reading them is soooo good. If you have the kids in the car, it's great fun for the whole family. When the books would come out, we'd buy the tapes/cds. The whole family would grab pillows and make a sleepover in the family room and all of us would turn out the lights to listen.

'The Prisoner of Azkaban' is an interesting expansion introducing Lupin and Sirius. 'The Goblet of Fire' is the next film and my personal favorite of the eight. It was best in the theater.

There's an adult butterbeer recipe of butterscotch schnapps, butter, and cream soda, but I'd use soda water instead for less sweetness. The triple-decker purple Knight Bus did a tour around the country, way back when the movie came out. I saw it at an event, school kids taking pictures and people in costume answering questions. I like your reactions; looking forward to seeing them all.

@@weaponizedglitter69 Weird question. No, I drink coffee with a little creamer and a little sugar, and I hate eggnog. Trust me, I’m no alcoholic if that’s what you’re getting at. The butterbeer they serve at Universal is pretty much pure sugar. Like liquid cotton Candy. Adding liquor was the only reason I finished the drink, otherwise it was hard to get past the first few sips.
