Yeah, sometimes I feel like Snape hated James so much because he wanted to protect Lily's innocence, sort of like a protective brother. This is why James' Patronus is a stag and Snape's is another doe. Does are a symbol of innocence and they aren't sexualy attracted to other does. I know people think Snape was obsessed with Lily and she got "friendzoned" but I really think all he wanted was to be her friend. This was my one gripe with the closing. Rowling kinda showed this split-off with Snape, Slughorn and Draco (though none of their history are clean) but never really applied it to the entire house. The story of Harry Potter is Dumbledore finding a child in a bad situation (dead parents) taking that child and placing him in a worse situation (abusive parents) then using his popularity as a famous person to get Harry to do what he wants to train him to be able to kill public enemy number 1 by having Harry fight with various obstacles at Hogwarts. Dumbledore, for example, was hoping for the best when he gave custody of Harry Potter to his family (they are, after all, his surviving family). A quite logical move, as far as he knew at the time. His uncle and aunt are the one at fault, though to be honest Dumbledore should have taken back Harry earlier, once he realised they were abusive.

Only her sister, but they were only children, so Dumbledore hoped the grown-up aunt would be able to overcome the contempt she had for her dead sister and raise Harry with love. He did gave them a stern frightening talking to at the end about being abusive. Also yes as Alphonse said, he had to because of the charm's protection too that relied on his aunt's presence. Dumbledore makes other mistakes throughout the books, but I never saw it as him being terrible, only him being human and not all-knowing. Despite how wise he appears, he is not omniscient, but in the end, his plan worked (though it required a lot of suffering by Harry, yes.) McGonagal is never cruel, she does not always listen yes, but I always saw it as her trying to not encourage Harry and his friends to actively look for trouble. If she was enthusiastic about their adventures, it would defeat her goal, keep them safe. No question about Snape, though we do learn why (which is no excuse). "And here we have this Wizard called Dumbledore, and he wants to leave little baby Harry with this family, but he doesn't want to be seen doing magic in the Suburbs". "So what does he do?" "He does some magic in the Suburbs". Literally the best line in the whole video.

been a potterhead my entire life and just now for the first time you made me think about how Quirell could not sleep on his back because he'd suffocate Voldemort. I'm actively picturing Quirell now lying on his side with a book in front of him and one propped up so Voldemort can read and when he reaches for the light Voldemort is like "don't you dare, I'm still reading here" - "but I got papers to grade tomorrow!" - "What has ever lead you to believe possibly inconveniencing you is a concern of mine?"

If you haven't watched "A Very Potter Musical", watch it. It goes into this in great detail.

American publisher thought americans wouldn't know what a philosopher's stone was. And British children are... more cultured or something?

@@anvos658 Uhm. 7 months later and you're here to say... what, exactly? The original was in British English, so it's not a case of "American to British", and my comment was regarding the fact that they're not the same thing in different dialects, they're very different things in BOTH languages.

To be fair on the 'killing Quirrel' thing, I'm fairly sure hosting Voldemort was slowly killing him, isn't that why he was drinking Unicorn Blood, so he would've died anyway, plus he WAS actively trying to kill Harry at the time.

I just realised the letters knowing his room situation means that dumbledore was fully aware of his living situation the whole time.
@poisonedyoyo2 жыл бұрын
Yes, he was, if you read the books you would know this, I suppose the movies don't explain things well enough, the reason Harry has to live with the Sursleys in spite of all they do to him is that with family he is protected from Voldemort, witho ther wizards he wouldn't be. And for whatever reason the Potters are all gone. Probably all died in the Second Wizarding War.
