The way you do the loops on the lines is brilliant. I always rigged the other direction then had to add loops at the pin rails at the end of the build. And honestly by that time I couldn't be bothered and just left them off sometimes. No more. I got down my Bounty with the cat inflicted broken spritsail yard yesterday and made the repair, reattached various loose lines, and a couple of loose stays, and will now will make a plexiglas case for it, thanks to your inspiration. Now back to the Heller Royal Louis.

I think the only people who would be bored by videos like this are NON model builders.....Nice work on your Bounty. Just got this kit and I know mine won't look as nice as this one. But it will look good from a few feet away. Until one looks real close. LOL. Just made the Cutty Sark and I am pleased with it.....

Instead of a needle I used to put some cianoacrilate the extreme of the wire in order to get a tought and straight yarn, enought to get throught the deadeyes and blocks. I can't imagine to handle with that humongous needle in such a small space! You are a true master of rigging! Congratulations, excellent work! Regards Harry!
@HarryHoudiniModels
@HarryHoudiniModels 4 жыл бұрын
The combination of my fat fingers and this tiny model means the length of the big eye needle I used really helps. You can however get shorter ones. I can see how your trick would work nicely on threading deadeyes where there is more elbow room to get your hands in place.

harryi see u have bubbles in ur sails. what i do is try brush on liquid starch to the sail let it dry then add ur glue/water mixture & no more bubbles. im working on the 100 scale hellers le soleil royal i hope i live long enough to finish it. ha ha ha . but, its nice to see guys my age still working on tall ships. i started working on tall ships @ 11. im 65 now & it does take me a bit longer to preform rigging tasks, but, its worth it when the boat floats. stay modeling . oh p.s. adding lights to the boat. makes it come to life. peace.

Great video I wish Id seen it before I had started rigging my current model - Constructo Pandora - it would have saved a lot of frustration! Still just about to start Endeavour (Billing) which may end up nearer your standard rather than the improvised and totally inaccurate current model! I watch from Part 1 before starting. Many thanks from the UK.

This is the second ship model I'm working on, and I can tell you after hours of internet searches, books on rigging, and diagrams, your videos are the most invaluable resource I have found. I may have missed it in a previous video, but how did you get the gammoning to look so good? Cheers!
@HarryHoudiniModels
@HarryHoudiniModels 4 жыл бұрын
If you mean the gammon on the bowsprit holding it to the ships bow, I simply wound thick chord and tied in place. If you mean the binding on the lower masts I show that method in Part 6 Binding and Furling. Otherwise what do you mean by gammoning?
@Shellback13202
@Shellback13202 4 жыл бұрын
@@HarryHoudiniModels Yes I meant on the bowsprit. I've heard that can be tricky.
@HarryHoudiniModels
@HarryHoudiniModels 4 жыл бұрын
It needs to be done before adding the head rails or any rigging at the bow. As long as you securely glue the base of the bowsprit into its mounting hole on the hull first, and let it set, then you should be able to run the gammon easily through the hole in the cutwater or stempost. Only bind it firmly but never so tight that it would put any strain on the bowsprit.

Hello! Me one more time. Just starting the rigging in my Bounty. I got the kit through Amazon. There were two pieces missing since a couple of parts were off the tree that held them. A cannon (one fortunately that goes though the upper hull and not one of the small swivel cannons.) Also, one of the parts that goes on the mizzen mast under the upper ratline and attaches to the mizzen lookout perch. I was able to use the tree (or sprue) to manufacture each part. I am surprised that a fairly small kit has rigging blocks. I just made the Cutty Sark which is a bigger kit and it had no blocks for rigging. Any way just wanted to say hello and let you know I am on the rigging now. Not as detailed as yours is. I will stick with the parts from the kit!!....

Hi David... I’ve shown the Micro Liquitape in most of the other videos... great stuff... I had my Trumpeter 1:350 Graf Spee sub assemblies glued with it. This allowed me to disassemble and put the ship back in the kit box for travelling, then pull out and just click back together.

Thank you for your reply! Forgive me for asking this if you have already mentioned this in another video. Like I have said I just got this same Bounty kit. I have started it and started to paint the hull. I have been making models since I was 7 or 8 years old. ALWAYS planes or ships. Then I started making sailing ships. The rigging on these models was always tedious for me because I would spend 10-15 minutes on the USS Constitution for one line and when it was rigged.... the model still looked the same!! LOL. My models always look pretty good except for the painting. Like I said before looking at them from a distance they look great!!...My question...any tips you can give on painting the hull would be appreciated. Especially the yellow over the blue on the upper hull. I have tried using toothpicks and needles!!! I end up always repainting where the one color has bled onto the color or part next to it. I have to admit your ratlines look great. Don't know what you used but I admit I am going to use the ones that came with the kit! By the way I have always used Testors paint. I remember when the little bottles cost me 25 to 35 cents!! Now they go for 2 dollars or more!!! Sorry for going on like this but I love watching videos like this and get jealous of the finished work!!! Thank you for any time you spend answering my question. WHEW!!
@HarryHoudiniModels

The trick to any paint job is start with the lightest colour, like the yellow, then add the darker colours, like the blue. To get the sharp edges I used either masking tape, or a small card held against the model. Never have too much paint on your brush and rely solely on the mask. Small amounts of paint around the edges to block in the outline. Try to only paint up to the edge of your mask or card, it’s only there for the odd splash. Then once dry fill the middle area. If I do have a bleed or smudge then I lightly sand off the top darker layer, or scrape it gently away with a sharp knife. There will always be little areas to touch anyway, but by using this method I keep those to a minimum.

We were having some work done to the outside of the house the other day and the vibration from the hammer drill knocked my Cutty Sark of the shelf and now looks like it’s been washed up on a reef. The bow spit snapped off . Now in my Corona Virus dry dock!
