if i wanted to watch a funny antagonistic interview, i would just watch ziwe
@cas6359 Жыл бұрын
literally there’s so many other options- ziwe, between two ferns, the chicken shop show she’s apparently ripping off, and kinda eric andre. but they all know to keep things short for the most part. and the whole joke isn’t just being antagonistic, they’re making jokes while being antagonistic.
@harryjamesmiller Жыл бұрын
how and whenever she returns from her show being cancelled, i will be seated
@jeness Жыл бұрын
Amelia and Ziwe seem to be where I gravitate more because they have their own spin on a known formula. Amelia is in the vain of a date going wrong. While Ziwe is more of the friend who tries to bate you into being political for all the wrong reasons🤣 both are severely uncomfortable in a fun way but unfortunately Bobbi’s comes off as unprepared but not in a fun way. That being said. I don’t care for the visceral hate because a lot of men in the industry are derivative and boring.

Eh, they don’t feel the same thing at all. I like both, but not the same vibe at all.
@hthumbs4072 Жыл бұрын
Amelia seems to be able to adjust her approach depending on the person better, she leans into and matches guest initiated bits so much better, and also comes off as more likeable even though she is still aiming for weird and awkward.
@josefinarivia Жыл бұрын
It's a known formula so I'm hesitant to say she stole anything. Ziwe and between two ferns do something similar as well. So to say she stole anything is conflicting. The other concepts work better though since I'm thinking the other people have education or training in how to interview people and know how to keep a conversation flowing without hitting a block.

The bit she does during these interviews isn't anything new and doesn't feel particularly well done. It's always made me think of between two ferns and why the whole straight faced thing truly only works if you're really bringing a unique thing to it.

exactly and if works if you actually say funny stuff with a straight face not just boring questions
@phoebescott6787 Жыл бұрын
True, though I find it funny how she genuinely acts like she doesn't like the guests or even knows why they're there. Between two ferns is like the host doesn't really like the guest but does the interviews anyway. Hers seems like someone just walked into her house and she had to interview them, especially with the sets she's chosen sometimes, where they're just sitting in her bed or something. I've seen some clips and I think it's funny, but it's true that it's hard to do it well

I feel as if the anger leveraged against her is pretty clearly classic misogynistic “how could a woman be successful?” type stuff. Even the chicken shop date/ziwe comparisons feel rooted in the pitting women against each other thing. I’m not saying these criticisms aren’t valid, I prefer these podcasts and think she likely took inspiration from them, but the visceral hatred behind the criticisms is not something you see any time a man makes a watered-down version of another man’s podcast. It’s not like dry/awkward humor is a new concept. The internet really loves to vilify women for doing something incredibly neutral, and I’d caution people to acknowledge the internet-perpetuated patterns like this.
@125loopy Жыл бұрын
I don't think it's all misogyny. She JUST started the podcast and is interviewing one of the biggest rappers in the world on episode 4. Why? She's a bad interviewer, she has no experience, she's not funny, and other people do this format better. She's a rich white woman flying around the world being promoted on social media. This is just another case of mediocrity.

The thing that annoys me most about this is how people act like concepts never existed before TikTok. Between Two Ferns was the OG awkward interview “podcast” and everyone acts like Chicken Shop girl was the mother of this. Also literally the whole app is based off of copying each other, it’s just that the algorithm is discriminatory so Eurocentric creators will get priority.
