As someone who has done time, and turned my life around after the birth of my son...I know how dumb people can be about it. Way too many people think if youve ever stepped foot in a jail cell youre forever scum of the earth. In the country with an incarcerated population bigger than a lot of countries... People can change. Not everyone whos been a criminal stays that way forever. Not everyone locked up is even a criminal.

Lastly criminals are still people. Most of the time people commit crimes living a life with extremely limited options. Criminals aren’t bad people, they are people who have had a bad life leading them to make bad choices. Violent crimes are obviously a different thing but even then, people aren’t born bad, and all people are capable of changing.

No bodies perfect , and I think many ppl have committed a crime (even petty stuff ) that technically they could go to jail for . … so many ppl just haven’t been caught. The issue is that once someone is released from prison , they now have a giant barrier for employment . This is obv going to be frustrating , and many ppl who tried and got rejected from jobs then starts to have the mindset of “well I’m forever screwed, can’t get a decent job….. crime is easier … Fuck getting a job “

No, people don’t change. Behaviors can change, but who someone is, fundamentally, does not change. That’s why some people can come out of jail and can “change”. And some people go in and stay the same or get worse. The truth is, if you are now rehabilitated, you were never a truly bad person. You just made some bad decisions in life.

This whole thing just makes me sad for her,and a bit annoyed. Gypsy has been in prison essentially her entire life up until December! And now she's out, married (I know she got married in prison.... That might make it worse actually), and she's in the constant spotlight. What she needs is quiet, privacy (not that I'm blaming the public for this - - she genuinely seems to be egging it on), and lots of therapy. She has a lot to work through. And being obsessed with being in the social spotlight like this, without having a good, firm idea of who she really is as an independent adult is going to lead to disastrous results. It's just a matter of time before we see tragedy strike her life once again, i guarantee it.

I was in a psych ward for just over a week and even I experienced weird adjustment of the awkwardness of freedom immediately after that. I cannot imagine going from her life with her mom (who she murdered) to that brief brief moment of post-murder freedom to prison for 8 years to just . . . Out. But also married. She doesn’t know normal freedom of existing as herself. But also, like, there freedom to get to just do what you want, when you want. That must feel so surreal to suddenly have. (But also, ah, yah, she’s a murderer.)

Even if nick did get out within the 8-10 years like gypsy they would still find a way to act like he didn’t do his time. so many prisoners and people who are incarcerated wrongfully or not have a hard time in society cause no matter what people think they don’t learn or feel bad for their actions. Hmmm it’s almost like people think prisons are not good sources of rehabilitation and then those same people demand that people stay incarcerated…make it make sense

i think people really like being in one camp or the other rather than viewing the case and her situation with the nuance it is chock-full of. clearly evident by people who know nothing of the case thinking she straight-up did it all herself. at the same time, i can see the concern about the stan culture of it all. it's a really interesting situation, and i must say i am a little trepidatious to see how it unfolds in the future and what it means big-picture.

In Brazil, we had the case of a girl that killed her mother and father along with her boyfriend. The story is very popular, there are movies documentaries, etc. But the difference is that NOBODY likes or support her, or wanted her to be out. The reason is because she killed her parents over nothing, and had a good life until that point. I genuinely think people are supporting Gipsy not because they hate their parents, but bc she was abused by her. I had a hard time not wishing her well, for that same reason

People forget that we are the ones who make people famous. Anyone who we are interested in, that media can make money off, can be famous. There's no rule that says 'you can't be famous because you k*lled someone'. I think the more balanced among us are interested in Gypsy because as you said, this is a rare story of someone who ensured horrific things, did horrific things to survive, did time and is now free for the first time. I think it's normal to want to hear her story in her own words, as this is the first time she has ever freely been able to do so. However, she does deserve to be protected. Unfortunately the media are vultures, so they don't care about her wellbeing or how they paint her, they just run with it. The public who are being openly horrible to or about Gypsy also just fuel the mass intrigue and create more attention, more money for the media etc. No one's actually out there looking out for Gypsy as a human among all this. I don't mean her family or Ryan, I mean a media team, a PR team, a manager that doesn't use her and a good legal team on a payroll. I feel like knowing how much fame she had upon release that there should have been so much more in place regarding media protection. It's all very fast and the only person I care about is Gypsy. She wants to use her platform for good, but I just hope she paces herself and has good people around her to help her manage the highs and lows of social media and media. It is not easy for anyone to be in the public eye, nevermind for someone who has been in prison for the last 8 years. It could feel incredibly overwhelming and invasive especially after the novelty wears off.

Can someone tell me, if she had some guy willing to kill, why couldn't she find a guy willing to help her escape?
@shangfaninshanghai903
@shangfaninshanghai903 4 ай бұрын
They tried that, but her mom basically had her registered as mentally incompetent, so by law if she left it would be considered kidnapping basically. No one believed Gypsy was being abused by her mom and when she previously attempted to escape, she was punished by her mom when she returned. They thought there was no escape outside of killing her mom since her mom told everyone Gypsy was dependent on her and had legal control over Gypsy despite Gypsy being an adult.

@@shangfaninshanghai903you're spot on. One nuance that I do think is important though, is why nobody thought she was being abused. She never, ever made any accusations. Not even when she ran away, because she was too frightened. Not sure how to think of it all.

ok but the people being killed by the mansons were perfect strangers who didn’t do anything to charles or his deranged followers. not trying to say that it’s ok to kill someone if they abuse you, just that the court clearly took her situation into consideration when they sentenced her. not to mention the mansons wanted to continue killing. it’s pretty unlikely gypsy rose would continue to be a danger to others

Yeah it feels like she really doesn’t care and that he did it on his own terms or something.
