Great video for those of us who’ve missed our European road trips this last couple of years. Two years ago, I was driving down to Angoulême for the Circuit des Ramparts and the French roads and sunshine on this video brought it all right back. Unfortunately, it makes me wish my life away in anticipation of what I have planned for next year. So refreshing to watch videos where the subject - cars/roads/travelling - is not obliterated by the presenter’s ego. Good work.

I think that 5.0 supercharged V8 is an absolute gem of an engine. Thanks to sticking with the supercharging, it delivers lots of shove from really low down making it enjoyable in so many more scenarios. Sounds great too! I had the less powerful version in the XK-R and miss it when I see videos like this! Fuel economy you were getting was great. Last trip we did down to near Pau in a Discovery Sport (fully loaded with Dog, roof box & back box) was 30 mpg in a diesel and autoroute nearly all the way! Swapped to the tags a few years ago and they are great. Still a bit nervous about the 30 kph lanes, but do find it amusing watching all the French behind you avoid the lane you choose as they assume the daft English car will get stuck!
@johntechwriter8 күн бұрын
I too owned a supercharged AJ V8, rated at 370 hp, in my 2001 Vanden Plas Supercharged (the U.S. name; in Europe the Daimler Super V8). In Jaguar’s best tradition, its sedans are hundreds of pounds lighter than their German rivals and so transition faster in corners, yet they also deliver superior ride quality. My 4200 lb sedan’s 11:3 pounds per horsepower ratio was optimal for any kind of driving. This “Project 7” has a bored out and over-boosted variant of the AJ that, at 575 hp, seems excessive. But due to the horsepower pissing contest among rivals in this sector, Jaguar’s upping the AJ’s power was required. To those who think you can never have too much power, I beg to differ. As I piloted a 500 hp F-Type on a test drive, the sales guy suggested I step on it. I did and the experience was terrifying. The first-gen F-type was known for its tendency to snap oversteer, and this is the last thing you want when you get on the throttle a bit too early as you exit a corner. I will never shake the sensation of panic I experienced as the guard rails came flying towards me. I caught it, but was thereafter chastened while cornering, which greatly diminished the car’s fun-to-drive quotient.

Can't believe I've just driven roughly the same route to Frejus, S of F - 10th September and returned back on the 18th. We've had the Tag too few years now - absolutely invaluable on French Motorways. The mountain pass - what a great road to drive. Cannes to St. Raphael on the DN7 - try it if you haven't - stunning climb and decent with epic bends and spectacular open views. So I drove the tour in the newly acquired BMW X5 45e MSport based on your recommendation. Fuel consumption wasn't as bad as I thought it would be on the longer journey given I bought it based on 85% of my driving being below 40 mile per day trips. Left Frejus at 8.30 am - arrived back home - Leicestershire at 2.30am - 18 hours including stops - 925 miles covered. Journey back to England achieved 31.6mpg sitting at 83mph on active cruise control and managed to regenerate 76 miles of electric (ie no charge on set off). What a great car it's been - quiet, smooth (particularly on French roads) and the clever electric regeneration based on your Sat Nav destination is quite simply amazing - ie knowing when to harvest at roundabouts and coming up to other vehicles in front but free running when empty road and slowing down. Is a completely different way of driving - trying not to use brakes! The longer journey really showed how it all worked especially the controlled steering in traffic - no hands on wheel - - just flashing display when the wheel needed touching to inform the car that you hadn't joined the passenger in Zzz's. So otherwise day to day I'm getting around 45 miles in elec with revised driving technique - at a cost of around 90p on low tariff. And don't you just love the quality and information of Head Up Display? Sorry I've harped on about the X5 but one last thing.... the Sat Nav information provided on the continent seems so much more rich in content to that of the UK? Traffic detail ahead by colour coding is exceptionally accurate along with breakdowns - why not on UK roads where we get flash ups at least two hours out of date? Keep up the brilliant narrative .... a joy to listen and watch.

Always traffic between Valence and Avignon, but the road from Avignon to Apt and around Verdon Gorge is very scenic, if you get the chance I'd recommend stopping in Goult for a coffee or lunch. Great road trip and no doubt fantastic to be giving the Project 7 some well needed exercise on some great roads. Lucky sod!

My face is hurting from all the smiling I'm doing during this video😁 I have my yearly Tail of the Dragon trip in less than 2 weeks and while that road and surrounding roads are just as beautiful I don't have anything near the car to fully enjoy it but I will nonetheless😎

Great video Harry, Thanks.. If you _have_ to wear two watches, please put the smart watch on your ankle (like a Home Detention bracelet..you'll get used to it after a while)

I only wear one watch. The Apple thingy on my right wrist is a health device and part-time repeater of my phone, so I can answer calls and the like when out on my bike. I've never ever used it to tell the time with.

You drove through my back yard and I am guessing past my house as we live in Drome and I recognised a roundabout with some sculptures and sections of road. The roads are a dream to drive on and I never get tired of them, next week we are going to drive down to Arles for a few days sadly not in anything as exotic as a Project 7 just a humble 3.4 S Boxster. Nice video look forward to the next instalment.
