My dad had a Zagato in 1971, it was a 1.3 1969 model in a fabulous original metallic colour, called Rosso Mirabella, it was absolutely gorgeous, so gorgeous intact that it attracted attention wherever it went. On one very memorable occasion a chap on his bicycle was so captivated by it's beauty he couldn't keep his eyes off it as we drove by and ended up falling of his bicycle as he turned his head watching us in awe as we drove by, a very funny and memorable moment. My Dad loved the car so much , he would film it on his 8mm cine camera, which when I watch them today they bring back so many memories. The Zagato was a truly beautiful car, a work of art in my opinion and way ahead of it's time in so many respects.

This has got to be my favourite restoration amongst Harry's curent YT videos. I was surprised to see how much work had taken place since the last episode (around 3 weeks sgo) & the look on Harry's face when the engine started first time was just wonderful. The Lancia is really taking shape & will be a wonderful addition to Harry's collection, especially as he has such an emotional connection to this car. Brilliant stuff!

Fabulous video. Magical stage of the process. Anyone who has ever rebuilt a car will appreciate the immense complexity of the mechanicals required to get an old car moving under its own motive power. Anyone who has ever rebuilt a car will recall the magic of the noise, sounds, smells, sensations of its rebirth - they’re old memories reborn! This video captures these emotions succinctly. I remember getting an old mini going again, and feeling similar sensations. It didn’t need doors or a dashboard - just as long as I could feel and hear the thing going again, I was happy to have my car back. Just as in this case, the rebuilt engine was more powerful, cleaner and stronger than the rusty old thing that it once was - but felt instantly familiar.

You're that happy while there are still a lot of parts missing. Imagine how good this is going to be when its on full throttle with those carbs. It already sounded great when it was ropey so now all the panels are the right shape and its been put together by people who know what they're doing its going to be immense. This is one of my favourite projects you've done. Its so good to see a car that has been bodged and half done for years get restored back to better than new. I can't wait to see it out and about now. Even the colour suits it. Love that little car.

The diameter of the exhaust is extremely important on these little V4 engines from Lancia. The original diameter gives you the original performance and engine characteristics, as designed by Lancia. Even a small change in diameter makes a significant difference. On my Appia (the Fulvia's older brother), we experimented with different pipes and even the smallest change was noticeable. Lancia knew their stuff. Keep it to original specs all the way.

The bark of those 45s added to the sound of the jewel that is the Fulvia TC.......They both bring a tear to my eyes. Did anybody else notice Harrys body language change when approached the little red darling to make it move out under its own power?? Childlike glee. An absolutely priceless moment for him. One that I too am lucky enough to have enjoyed. Well done to every one!! Bw Mike in the Black Forest.

Whenever I see that engine I imagine it doubled-up into an ultra-compact little W8. It must have crossed the minds of a few Lancia people back in the day. ETA >> I was grinning non-stop at the end when Harry drove it out of the garage. ETA2 >> no mistaking that sound for anything but an Italian - if heard it coming I'd know it was a Lancia or maybe an Alfa.
