By all accounts, it is an amazing package, the new Defender. And I have seen quite a few video reviews that back that up. And I do love the new, yet retro styling of the exterior, and the interior. And on paper, not much comes close. However, I think I'll wait for an urban used one, cos even £45k is beyond my price range atm. But I agree, I think the new Defender is gonna be a big hit, especially when the commercial variant comes to market. I have already seen a few of these on the road already, and they do have a great stance and sit very nicely, and seem to have bags of composure. So once again, it looks like Land Rover have created the perfect off roader for our times.

Thankyou Harry ,I've been looking forward too seeing what you made of it ,a good solid review of what as you say is a landmark vehicle for Landrover,might have to wait a while for a previously enjoyed example,but again that will be dependent on the residuals....

Don't care for the haters, this is an amazing car and a Defender in it's own right (coming from a series III previous owner). And the video was awesome. Thank you Mr. Metcalfe.

There’s a reason the prices for old Defenders (in good condition) shot up quiet dramatically...
@robbybobbyhobbies3 жыл бұрын
People don't like change? Suspicion of a Defender that doesn't deafen you or shake your fillings out? Good old fashioned Little British nostalgia? No problem with people enjoying classics, but your underlying suggestion that the old one is better for life in 2021 is dubious at best.
@MT-ou3lh3 жыл бұрын
Exactly. I am disappointed, but that’s subjective as I want an offroader that is quickly and easily fixable. My daily driver is a Tesla, so it’s not that I am against change or tech or anything. I expected and wanted a “new defender” but what we got is an entirely different car (which I personally don’t like at all)

Can you imagine Dave the mechanic at your local LR Stealership trying to fix that engine in a couple of years?

Our son in law works for JLR. Earlier in the year he turned up with a 110 Defender for a day out in the Staffordshire moorlands. 3 adult in the front. 2 grandchildren in car seat and grandad in the rear. Springer spaniel in the boot. Loads of comfortable room. Only one criticism. If you go for the front 3 seat option it does make the rear a bit claustrophobic with the centre seat in use. But I imagine it wouldn’t be used on a regular basis. Impressive off-roader, and comfortable.

I still own and run a working old Defender 90, and do love it. That said, I am getting on now - and I'm a bit tired of it's quirks. I am warming to the new one. It's performance & manners are so much more 21st C than the (very 20th C) of the old one. It will be really interesting to see how the mechatronics hold up on the used market and also what happens with the environmental angle across the UK. I'd probably think commercial 110 without the macho trappings, coil sprung and full towing gubbins.

Best review of the new Defender I have seen so far. Much more attractive than a G Class or Wrangler Unlimited imo.

I understand one standard no cost spec is a set of Xmas Lights that light up in random fashion as one goes along...certain things never change. Wonderful piece of over complicated tech with so many things to wrong...LR garages must be very happy...it will keep customers going back to their centres for years to come. Clever 🥸

I love Harry’s Garage but I do think Harry should clarify his relationship with Jaguar Land Rover. If you Google, you’ll find him listed as a paid consultant to JLR. Maybe old news, but either way it’s much better to be clear.

I really don't think the new defender gets enough credit for its incredible breadth of ability. Its clearly not trying to be what the old defender was. It's a different, more modern and FAR more capable all round car.

I don't know.... In my days working on a farm (OK, forty-odd years ago) if it couldn't be fixed with a length of baler twine and a hammer, then it was way too advanced and you'd need specialist equipment (like spanners) to get you going again.

It's so good my company has purchased THREE and I have personally bought one. NO regrets, best purchase tows like a ox, works like a mule. One already has 6000 hours on the clock most of it towing the rest at an idle sitting in a quarry or on site. None of the guys have broke anything yet and the pickups haven't been front of the key safe since having them around
