The first 700-800 Ferrari 308 GTB built had bodywork constructed from glass-fibre and a claimed 255bhp from the mid-mounted 3.0litre V8 engine, making them the most powerful and lightest Ferrari 308 of all.

Just about every car you review makes me want it. Your enthusiasm and fondness for these cars is infectious not to mention the cars are all pretty cool anyway. Your narrative delivery is informative but casually offhanded, very enjoyable videos!

The Mitsubishi Starion had a similar "wireless hatch" system for the rear wiper, license plate light and defrost. Since the hatch was all glass; the way they did it was through the lifter struts. The housings had a series of spring loaded connectors which made contact when closed. At least my that's the way wide body 1987 model was set up. I always thought it was very clever the way an all glass hatch had electrical systems on it and no cables.

My brother had one of these in Australia in the 1980s and early 90s. Nobody wanted the fibreglass bodied cars then. After an accident he bought GTS parts from Maranello and had it painted red (it was originally yellow) and converted it to a GTS. In the process we saw how badly the fibreglass was under the skin with bits like the window frames just slopped on with matt and resin. But you had to forgive that because it was so beautiful. Being RHD, the scream in the drivers ear from those Webers whistling through the door intake was spine tingling. I drove it often. We spent many hours keeping the carbs in tune but it was worth it. Pulling off the engine lit made everything so much easier to access.

I first became hooked on 911s, when aged 14 in 1981, a friend drove me to London in a Grand Prix White R-registered 911 Carrera 3.0. It's fascinating to now see what its direct competition was at the time. I never knew the first 308s were glass-fibre - fascinating as always Harry - thank you.

As much as he implores that he has no intention of buying it back, you can tell how much he enjoys driving that wonderful machine! Also, the way they have the license plate lights rigged up wirelessly via the boot posts is absolutely BRILLIANT! I never would have known that if he hadn't mentioned it. Didn't Magnum P.I. drive a later model targa top 308? Loved that TV series & that car...the later steel bodied ones are definitely the better $$ value since they offer the same sound & performance for far less cash-if you're looking for something you'll drive often and are not concerned about it's status as a collectable.

Thank you for your video. It certainly brought it all back to me. The sound of the engine. The interior. I had a Black bodied/Black interior fibreglass 308GTB in 1983. It WAS A LATE '76 CAR. It had a private plate 1XTF. A famous first owner 'Eric Clapton '. I paid £9975 for the car which seemed little for a Ferrari even then. I wish I still had it but not so much for the risen value but I miss driving it. Looking at it. Listening to it. The car waxed up looked amazing

bigchubby You can pretty easily just push a car on a regular road. Here in Kentucky, there are plenty of backroads and mostly empty highways where I can hoon my Corvette C7 Z06 around, despite the car's 800hp. I took a road-trip to Florida and got it up to 190 because it was an arrow straight, completely flat 2-lane road with absolutely nobody on it within 2 or 3 miles of me.

My father used to have a Ferrari 308 Ventroresina and it's had 4 owners since then, the third owner had it for 19 years and used it nearly every day he bought it when it had 28,600 and sold it at 49,000 miles it's now done 54,000 miles. It is tax exempt. Registration is MMW 40R and it's had a concours rebuild. And it's for sale at a garage called A2B Consulting in Altrincham.

word about the targa top on the GTS version, there is a thin ledge behind the seats, the targa top rests on that and the top is not even an inch think and it curves just at the edges beyond the edge of the seats, wrapping around the seats slightly as it were, so when the drivers seat is right back as far as it will go the targa top sits snuggly behind there and doesn't hinder the seat going back its furthest, Im 6'3 and I fit in a GTS no problem, sit in sideways first with both knees facing out the door, swing left leg under the steering wheel and then the other leg , bit ungainly and it is tight for a tall driver but fine all the same. I think Harry should buy that white 308 car back, I mean a 308 is for keeps really , a must for any car collection.

I've always loved the styling of the 308/328/288 series of Ferraris. And while the 308 is not all that fast compared to today's sports cars, my vision is the targa top version on a nice day, secondary roads along a canyon, ridge, or river drainage with lunch in the trunk. That's living life large in my view. Alas, I am way, way too tall for these cars. But, the 360/F430 series? Those cars have significantly increased legroom. Spider version? Yeah.

It is a good thing the car was not red otherwise most will be mentioning an 80s tv show. Thanks for comments. I never suffered radiator problems with my 308, so can't help on that one. I did have engine temperature issues with my 550, though, but that turned out to be a faulty sender unit, not the radiator.
