I’m just going to say, as some who became familiar with old who later than new who, I enjoyed this episode well enough. The only thing I’d change would be making the Doctor threat to kill more genuine and terrifying and make apparent to the audience that it’s not the Doctor’s better nature stopping him, but his darker and more manipulative side telling him it would have more effect on the 2 factions not to kill him. And I also think anything with the Doctor family at this point ( outside of a tragic backstory for the Doctor ) would create a lot of plot holes ( Season 12 ), making it kind of untouchable at this point.

One of my favourite episodes from the revived series of Doctor Who. The episode which David Tennant met his wife Georgia Moffett. The casting of Georgia Moffett as Jenny was brilliant because Georgia Moffett is the real life daughter of Peter Davison (The 5th Doctor). I met Peter Davison in 2009. It's a shame Jenny never got her own spin-off show as the ending did leave it open for a possible spin-off and I hope one day Georgia Moffett will make a possible return as Jenny in a future season.

There's a few weird bits in this, but it's not TERRIBLE. The acting is great, I like the Hath (Always been the good guys in my mind) and the ending is FANTASTIC. I think this episode IS necessary because of the end scene. He chooses to not execute the soldier with the gun, even though he had support from the other men to do so. This is why it is so moving when he takes the gun from Wilf in the finale. The guns look identical, and it shows his rage at the master when he won't take revenge on a man even when is daughter has been killed, but he would still kill the master.

I like the concept of the Doctor having a daughter who is not really his daughter while he already lost his real child and being very contradicted with his feelings. But it is not something that you can build up in 10 minutes and it is not something that you can do as comedy. It is like if the episode that called Dalek was trying to force comedy into the drama of being the last of yours. That why it is cheesy and melodramatic. Also the resolution of the story, Jenny being dead, renders everything into pointless.

It really would have been better if the Jenny-Doctor relationship had been built over multiple episodes.
