- attachment to outcomes (desire) is the reason for unhappiness - attachment can be good for achieving worldly success but never happiness - you can be detached from attachment by accepting that you have opened yourself up to a world of joy and a world of hurt (i.e. willingly taken on responsibility) - you cannot control the outcomes - you can only control your actions and you can always do the right thing - dialectical behavioral therapy: understanding that good and bad can coexist at the same time (non-duality) - there's no such thing as good or bad, it is created by our mind - there's just what happens, and how we interpret this determines our happiness - grounding focuses your mind to embrace things that are physically unpleasant, and then they no longer control you - you do not have freedom if you live a life running away from bad and running towards good - the way you relate to things you do not have in life determines your happiness (comparison) - happiness comes from inner tranquility in the absence of stimuli or even in the presence of positive or negative stimuli - inner tranquility never goes away, we just get distracted from it, which is why meditation is important - the more grounded and centered we are, the less stressed and anxious we will be (like the moment of beginning to write a test when you detach because there is nothing more you can do anymore) - start by not responding to external things that shape your behavior (learn to tolerate discomfort and be tranquil within it) - when your view is more long term you will be more resilient to set backs - everybody else is controlling how you think and feel, but you are the one ultimately in control - reframe and reexamine your beliefs that are making you unhappy - the more unaware you are of a thought process, the more it will control you - awareness is crucial for control - just being aware and observing weakens automatic thought patterns and changes your reality, this is willpower

So what these points got to do with “ the reason you are sad, single and lonely?”. Yes we all have freedom to perceive the way we want to see and create that reality from it. The problem is: most humanity are very broken, some simply toxic. So you got to have to perceive hard to yourself that be in relationships with these people will somehow make you happy and grow. When you perceive human must need to be with someone otherwise is not complete, when you perceive the marriage is a social approve for who you really are and how normal you are, when you perceive all of those manipulations from every social environment, controls and abuse from all of the people you are around, you create a reality for yourself that the life must need to have pain and suffer, even though your soul hate it to the Core. My point is: more and more people wake up from these material world BS, started really heal themselves and become a whole with themselves, they are the early awakening souls see through the brokenness of this world and knowing it is better off stay away from all of these. This is where now more people doing van life, more people go lives in mountains and off grid living. They are single but they are in peace, they are alone but they thriving being themself and being in their own power. People who single but sad and lonely is not in the group of the people I am talking about, and these sad lonely people just like all other people who still believe trying out relationships after relationships, marriage after marriage , they are the same as people who married for a life time but in real fact most of them just willing to lose more of themselves in order to achieve this goal of “ life time marriage”. Many of these people stuck with their marriage because of financial, status, kids concern, nothing more. So is it really just single sad lonely people fuxcked up? I would say that only people now found true happiness and true meaning of be a divine soul is the people who no more desire and don’t give a shixt about this society anymore, they are brave enough to get out of these material constructs and really live as a free, powerful, individual soul in a human body.

I love Dr. K’s approach to answering questions even in the most sensitive topics. I appreciate how honest and upfront he is when he can’t give a full answer because he knows he’s not an “expert” on something, but he can at least give you something to think about or a direction to explore if you want to know more about said thing. what i find most refreshing about dr k is that he unapologetically speaks about the spiritual wellbeing of an individual as a matter of fact. he doesn't try to dress it up with clinical terms and academia-speak to sound more impressive, obscure, or empirical. he plainly speaks of a person's overall wellbeing in terms that we all already understand. some people sam-harris and jordan-petersen the frameworks and terminologies so much, they end up arguing convoluted semantics and nobody benefits from the simple wisdom of the actual topic, itself

It blows my mind that Graham thinks "having more going on - a fast mind" is going to be happier. I find happiness in the down times, when I can relax, smell the trees and fresh cut grass in the air, relaxing in a recliner. To me, that contentment is the gold in life.
@VarietyFox4206 ай бұрын
Could be that he's thinking of excitement rather than contentment, or to have a mind that aligns with what you want. I know that when I want to work or study, having a hyperactive mind feels so good. It feels like I can do anything in the world. But when I want to relax, I would like the opposite. When there is a conflict between what I want and what my mind wants, I notice I become unhappy.

I spent my entire life training my perception. I feel like I could explain it, and most people still wouldn't understand. For me an infj/p I enjoy challenging my views with new experiences in small doses. I've found the way I am able to help someone the most has been to take one of their view points that can have a negative connotation and change their perspective to center around a positive core idea or value. Seeing this effect help someone choose to make impactful decisions that improve their life and people around them, has been the power that has held my hand through life without me knowing for a majority of my life. One thing I thought about while listening to this was the nature of teaching. It’s not for the faint-hearted. We try to predict all the outcomes when we plan and of course it rarely goes as planned. Unless you learn to go with the flow and to make do with what you have, you will be a VERY stressed teacher. I try to keep in mind that I can only control what I can control (my actions, as Dr. says) and not take the stress home. Easier said than done of course but when I take time to meditate on this, I do much better. It helps to frame things from a more balanced perspective when dealing with apathetic students or when trying to exercise discipline.

Oh my lord - I AM SUBSCRIBING! Your 1st podcast with Dr. K brought me to the channel, and this 2nd one brought me back. Even more so, it's a 4HRs worth of good information! Expecting more good stuff from the channel going forward!

Made it all the way to the end, been subscribed since something like 40k or so? Loved this conversation so much, it's always a pleasure listening to Dr. K speaking so passionately about something that doesn't get the attention it deserves in our world. Also found the meditation thing very entertaining. Jack was trying so hard to not move that he forgot to relax his muscles and let all the tension out of his body so his brow was furrowed the whole time.

The Iced Coffee Hour, thank you for this video, I felt grateful and glad to get my kitchen floor swept and mop, the contentment in completing a tasked is so rewarding to my internal self. Before I started to swept and mop the floor I had zero expectations so feeling this great contentment cause me to be thankful even happy with myself. I noticed the less I do the happier I feel. I also STOPPED chasing out-comes it was really a great experience to just be me without trying to prove anything to myself. I really love how Dr. Alok Kanojia explain things in this video great talk with all 3 of you so thank you so much.

Also stoped chasing outcomes, particularly when interacting with people, and it's like: who the f*ck is this chill 4ss dude speaking, and why is his voice coming out of my mouth.

I watched the entire episode last night. There's so many episodes of TICH I enjoy, but this was hands down one of the best ones you two have done. Dr. K is a national treasure.

So! Thanks guys for introducing me to Dr K in the last episode you had him... what a fng ride this has been... I haven't played this video yet... I know it's going to be amazing... I would have never thought I would get into a mental health journey by following Graham (ok this one was more on Jack :) ) but I still bought my first rental thanks to Graham.... damn you all rock!

I'm a weird person. If I'm experiencing insomnia I'll use KZbin interviews and speeches to drown out my own thoughts. It usually puts me right to sleep. This interview is too interesting and dr. K has me sitting like a child waiting for each word like a new piece of candy.
@criscutfry9 ай бұрын
1. Stop labeling yourself and things you don't understand as weird. Weird has a negative connotation, and many of these quirks make up each person's unique personality. 2. What you are experiencing is extremely common among many who are neurodivergent, like myself, having been diagnosed with ADHD! Many people use what is referred to as white noise to aid them in resting and achieving REM Sleep. As someone with ADHD, I am susceptible to chasing imaginary rabbits down rabbit holes; in other words, when I should be doing something, my mind is actively trying to distract me. So if I instead go somewhere like a cafe, lounge, or community hub, or I turn on a podcast or music or be among friends while I work on my college homework, my thoughts don't have as much of a chance to butt in. I already have some sound, activity, or conversations happening around us that we can tune in and out of as we please or need. It's the same with sleep; you choose your unique taste in what to have as your white noise. I hope that helps. These conversations that Dr. K has tend to be very helpful as well. You're learning about yourself, and it's helping you sleep-two birds, one stone.

I made it to the very end. I loved it. I loved your earlier one even more because you both so bravely talked about your love for each other. Dr. K. commended you for your healthy masculinity. You were both examples of men loving each other and not being ashamed or afraid of talking about it. We don't assume you're gay just because you love each other and aren't afraid to say it. It appears to me that you might have specifically avoided this topic this time around. I know very few people can handle the vulnerability of love and I hope that's not why you avoided the topic today. I admire you both so much. Jack wears his feelings on his sleeve and I really respect that. Graham obviously feels deeply as well, but (in my limited opinion) might be letting practical issues get in the way of just saying everything as it is and speaking from the heart. You both have plenty of money and shouldn't let anyone's opinions of you have the slightest affect. Even those closest to you (parents, fiance, spouses, brothers and sisters, best friends) deserve to love the real you and not just their imagination of who they think you are. I've never sat through a four hour video ever but this was well worth it. :-)

oh my god, just finished the whole thing. thank god you guys did a follow up, I’ve watched a bunch of your podcasts and you guys have some pretty good questions. But this being a follow up really allowed for a lot more detail, and Dr. K is definitely somebody who needs a bit more time to explain all of the wonderful things he knows, and his opinions. this is by far the best Dr. K interview I’ve ever watched and I’ve seen quite a few, please have him back once you guys have done an analysis of this video and have even more detailed and elaborated questions!! this follow up list of questions was by far the best line up ive ever heard!! definitely use this follow up type point of view when creating an initial list of questions for anyone youre interviewing! the depth of this is amazing!

Ups and downs are what living is all about. Achieving radical acceptance is basically opting out of feeling alive. Don’t be afraid to feel. You can still be in control of yourself and still feel.
