Has ARK changed for the worse?

It's almost been 8 years since ARK: Survival Evolved released and today in 2023, as much of a long way it has come, many believe it's changed for the "worse", due to many changes like Tek, emphasis PVP and action-adventure and a belief caused by due to blind nostalgia even, but in this video, I explain how it's rather not the game that's changed but rather the way you play.
This is NOT a review but rather my opinion-based essay on Why Ark doesn't feel the same and is somewhat different.

Amazing video and I think you hit the nail on the head. Alot of games suffer from this I think. What fun is it to just breeze through a game on the first playthrough in a matter of hours. So many people just want to be the first to win and forget to enjoy the journey. So many MMOs started making it crazy easy to get the best gear way too quickly. It leaves nothing to strive for. Getting the tek gear in ark was a reward for all the deaths and grinding you had to go through. It made it feel like a real accomplishment. Recently another KZbinr, Phlinger Phoo started a new Ark playthough he is caling the Underdogs series. He set his EXP down to .25(I believe he said) and is having the most fun he has had since he started years ago. He mentions how its forcing him to look at things different again since you can't just push through some tears to reach the next knowing better gear is just around the corner. Anyway, really enjoy the video and consider me a new fan and subscriber of your channel. 😊

This is so spot on and I have been preaching this to all my friends for so long. Of course the game is going to be boring when you can reach the endgame in a matter of hours. The most fun I've ever had playing this game was actually in the early-access days on PvE Official 31. My brother, myself, and a few other guys had a small tribe called the Dodo Hunters. The grind was immense but so was the fun we had. I remember taking shifts throughout the night with my brother watching a quetz that was taming. It took us from like 9 pm until 4 am, but we got that thing tamed up. It was so rewarding playing with that style. This video only reaffirms those beliefs. This message needs to be spread throughout the community! Ark isn't dead, people are just impatient!

i just wish they could fix the issues in the game because the game was tons of fun hopping on with friends and screaming like idiots when we saw some huge creature we didnt see before

I agree with everything 100%. I hate seeing how popular all these servers are with infinite weight and auto-tame etc. But one thing I would add is there is something to say about that scene near the start of your video; in the darkness of night with a torch out, the ground is shaking and you can hear the loud footsteps of a giant creature as you look around, scared out of boots until you see the Rex's head coming into the radius of your torchlight and time slows down as your adrenaline peaks.. my point is... gamma. Every server these days, including official allows you to change your gamma level within a second. Hell there's even hotkeys built into the game that allow you to hot swap between gamma settings and this absolutely deletes scenarios such as the one mentioned above. Not to mention, deletes other content like the rewarding feeling of finally getting electricity in your base for lights etc.. and I agree that tek is good, it gives allure and mystery to the newer players and rewards you properly for all the trials and tribulations that you've been through to get there. And tek is done sooo well, they nailed it imo.

you described exactly how i felt when i played the game back in the day, it had something so magical, the idea that it'll be third person, and be extremely different in the sequel makes me sad, but what makes me even sadder is that the company is so damn greedy we probably will never get the sequel and even if we do it wont be good or the same, i miss ark in its first few years

I definitely realized that a while ago, I missed a server I used to play on that seemed like it had really good rates but no matter what, on other servers and single-player, everything just seemed so easy. I used to have x8 taming but now I’m back down to 6 and I just feel more accomplished when I tame creatures.

good vid, agree that the focus on getting to pvp fast and ignoring any grind has ruined the game for a lot of people. And it’s hard to go back too since you’ve exposed everything to yourself in a very anti climatic way

I agree with you 💯. Single player kinda sucks for me, but I love pve on official. It's the grind as well as the interaction with other players while not trying to kill and loot them. Some of the tek stuff I do enjoy and use, what I don't like dint get used.
