Maybe stem cells used in the treatment of diabetes is in its infancy, but stem cell treatment has been used for a long time to treat osteoarthritis on knees and other joints. These stem cells (as far as I understand) are collected from your own blood or bone marrow and then they are separated from other cells, and get injected right back into yourself in the affected joint with success. In our area (NC), there's a company called QC Kinetics, that does just that. My boss had it done and he had a lot of success, no more pain, with this stem cell treatment. While it's not a cure, it slows down the deterioration of the bones/cartilage for some time. It's a very expensive treatment though. If something like this could be done in the pancreas, for type 1 diabetics, it would be fantastic!

What population of people wouldn’t have access to the nutritional intervention necessary to reverse diabetes, but would have access to stem cell injections? This is just another pharmaceutical pipe dream. It’s a shame that resources and funding aren’t directed to the root of the problem… It’s always about finding an expensive Band-Aid.

I just met a guy who had Type 1 diabetes and was cured 1 and a half years ago. As his kidneys failed he got a double transplant. 1 new kidney + a new pankreas of course he now has to take about 30 pills every day but he in a way is cured. I although do expect that the pills cause issues in the long run. Question is why is this not tried more often? Is the pancreas really the problem as mine seems to look youthful according to my MRT. Just the cells that produce the insulin "islets of Langerhans" do not seem to work or be there? Why are they not visible? + Could you just grow your own fully working pancreas from your DNA? Kind of makes more sense to me and as diabetes sort of takes long, you would have enough time. Saves a lot of complications.

*Type 1 Diabetes:* Too much sugar in the system because the body doesn't absorb it due to an inability to produce insulin. *Type 2 Diabetes:* too much sugar in the system because of either eating too much sugar or eating it too frequently even when the body overproduces insulin aka hyperinsulinemia. By understanding the problem, the solution is obvious. If your body can't make insulin, you take insulin. If you're eating too much sugar or eating it too frequently, you cut down on the stuff. Just using "diabetes" as an umbrella term is the reason why doctors unwisely give insulin to patients who already OVERPRODUCE insulin and make the problem worse. If there is a claim that there is a cure to "diabetes", it doesn't mean anything if you're talking about Type 2. If the cure is applicable to Type 1 diabetes, THEN it means something.

It would be more accurate and better information to your audience if you just wait a few weeks more to see further research release from China on the matter. The subject is on insulin and is a diabetic for 25 years. China open declaration is no small matter as this would mean losing face if the cure is not justifiable.

Does this make nonsense the term 'insulin resistance'? Is it the lack of insulin production it seem here or are Type 2 Diabetes producing enough insulin but the cells are locking the insulin out? It can't be both can it?
@guitarista666
@guitarista666 3 ай бұрын
Based on what Westman says at the outset that diabetes can be reversed by a change in diet, I don't think he knows much about diabetes. If you're type 1, there is no way in hell a change in diet will "cure" it because too many beta cells have been killed off by the immune system--therefore little to no insulin is produced. Clearly, what the Chinese say they have done is replace these lost cells with cells that have been modified to produce insulin. If successful, this would cure type 1 diabetes. Type 2 diabetics produce insulin unless the beta cells have been worked to death causing them to stop working and producing insulin. In that case, they might need this replacement therapy.
@amazingmikemed
@amazingmikemed 3 ай бұрын
@@guitarista666 It really irritates me when people talk about diabetes as if it is just one thing. That being said Westman did point out, eventually, that the man in China was Type 2. So, he had every right to claim that this is being done on a low-carb diet but he wasn't being mindful that he was being unclear to which type he was referring to at the beginning. This lead to confusion of people that knew type one is stated as incurable. What you wrote has no connection with my question about the term insulin resistance.
@guitarista666

@@amazingmikemed Type 1 diabetics are not insulin resistant. Type 2 are. It is possible for type 2 diabetics to become type 1 and type 2 after many years of running high blood sugars which ends up destroying their insulin producing beta cells

@@guitarista666 Where did I say type 1 is down to insulin resistant? Type 2 don't turn into type ones, that is nonsense. They are still type two's even if they start taking insulin(which they shouldn't be on). They're different diseases, but if type one's become obese then they can say they got both but it doesn't work the other way around.
