Public transport might sound cheap for Billionair Hasan in his Bel Air compound but it is actually very pricey sine there are no all day passes (well there are in tokyo but limited to tokyo metr and only for tourists) so every trip will cost you 100-300 yen. Despie exchange rate it will add up.

There’s vagrant encampments in Tokyo but way further out from the city center than where this guy was and also idk if the cops would give him crap cause he was a foreigner. But like hasan said it’s normal to sleep in public. More normal to just find a park bench or actual vagrants just sleep under an underpass or bridge not the freaking woods of a public park so much (again a bit out from the city center ). But most homeless people in Tokyo stay at manga cafes, 3 tatami mat rooms, hostels etc. and in osaka you can stay in very dangerous neighborhoods in day laborer hostels for 100 yen a day. And again in Kyoto just staying under a bridge is more common tho not as much as 20 years. But also a lot of homeless people in Kyoto just go back to Osaka every night cause of the above.

No way! Urban camping in Japan opens you up to tons of cool places! Like, how is it *not* cool to sleep next to the Imperial Palace, or in the middle of Ueno, or in a pristine valley, or in an old Meiji-era fort--I could go on and on. Sleeping outdoors in Japan is safe, legal, and fun. And with the wide accessibility of places to bathe for less than $5, it's also cheap as heck.
