Colorado native here, along with my wife and kids. Miss the old days when there weren't as many people, traffic, and crime. It's gotten out of control here in Denver. BUT, I do love my beautiful state, and love sharing it with new people who love and respect it as well. It's easy to throw on a pack and walk into the backcountry to get away from people when I need a break.

It's "out of control" in Denver -- and Boulder/Pueblo -- because it's mostly liberal/Democrat populated -- and so Democrat-run. Try Colorado Springs...the only one of the 4 major cites in CO that at least LEANS conservative (as do most counties in CO). Issues, yes, but not "out of control." I used to live in the Springs (COS) twice but am now back in West TX (ELP), hoping in 2-3 years time the VERY expensive housing market there (whether buying or renting) -- AND mortgage interest rates (the MAIN obstacle) -- will go back down. If they do, will move back to COS and buy a town-home (Wolf Ranch or Banning-Lewis Ranch areas). But certainly wouldn't even consider living in Denver. -- BR
@billredding2000
@billredding2000 Жыл бұрын
@T0MIN Yes, but big cites are usually Blue as well. Any connection there? Hmmm, I wonder. Same here in TX with Austin having crime issues reported more on the news now. And Albuquerque, NM as well. I occasionally travel (twice a year, during Christmas and in the Summer) through all 3 states (TX/NM/CO) -- have lived in 2 of them (TX/CO) and have spent LOTS of time in (and know my way around) NM. -- BR
@billredding2000
@billredding2000 Жыл бұрын
@T0MIN "Besides both sides have their own problems and attract certain type of people." Yes, but Blue cities have MORE of the "certain types" of people, WAY more -- they can keep them. But thanks, anyway... As for "conservative cites" are as rare as hen's teeth (or unicorns, as liberals prefer) so we can't do an overall comparison as MOST cities are liberal/Blue. It WOULD be "informative" to compare 10 solid Blue cities to 10 solid Red cities -- but the latter number doesn't exist, not even close. In fact, I can't think of even ONE city I'd call conservative. As in Colorado, it's MAINLY the rural counties (less-populated = less voters) that are conservative, and the Springs that (only) LEANS conservative (not solidly conservative but still regularly outvoted by Pueblo, Denver & Boulder in state and national elections). But you know, that seems to be the very same pattern all across America in other states: Cities liberal; rural conservative. But no, personally I do not like purple...however, my moving to/living in even MOST expensive Boulder (IF I got into their Home Ownership Program there, the ONLY way I could get a decent property) would be "interesting" as I CARRY, and the hoplophobe Boulder locals wouldn't like that. 😞 Still, perhaps I could apply to the City of Boulder to be their official Token Conservative? I hear it pays VERY well, also...which would allow to to buy a house vs. an overly-expensive town-home as I'm limited to looking for now. I'll apply for that position soon...or is that just "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" tripping on my part? Not sure. ;-) Rocky Mountain High, -- BR

It’s the happiest I’ve ever been in my life and the people are so kind and cool! I finallr made friends when I moved to CO and I made a LOT of them so easily after a lifetime of thinking nobody likes me and that I was weird. People are just shallow in Vegas. I hate it here. I miss living in Colorado so much. I currently live in Louisiana, I grew up out here and originally moved to Colorado permanently before marijuana became legal and the big boom of transplants. I had to move back to Louisiana after living in Colorado for 4 years in order to help my parents. I had planned to move back in 2020 but Covid happened and unfortunately drained my savings. Now I am more than ready to move back. I lived in Colorado Springs but am debating on going back to the Springs ir elsewhere. I just need really good schools for my daughter.

Basically.. with all that influx of people over the years and crazy boom of growth in most CO cities over the past 10 years, has brought a lot of money and resources to those school districts people are moving to. SO really, any school in a newer developed part of CO usually will be rather good. CO has some really good home school programs too.

I just recently moved here in Colo Springs. Unfortunately, I've been very sick since moving here (1 month ago). I've never had a worse head cold/ sinusitis and nose bleeds since being here. This has become a great challenge, and I pray this condition leaves once fall arrives. I never thought I'd have such a challenge of adjusting. Still, it's gorgeous here, I do love the fact that it's not humid here, however, those dry desert hot winds are actually adding to the problem. Dry, sore throat,bleeding dry sinuses,and dehydration are no laughing matter. The extremes of cool desert nights, and hot winds are forcing me to stay indoors. I was told that due to the unusually high amount of rainfall this year, the pollens of this area are sending scores of people to the doctor with allergies and sinusitis. I'll see what the next 3 seasons will bring. The changes my body is experiencing are very real and not for the faint of heart.

Some people just can't deal with the allergies that come with certain areas. Friend of mine moved to Florida but had such bad allergies there the Doc told her to move back to where she came from. Sometimes people just react badly to their environment.. and that sucks. When the leaves fall in autumn and dry out, that dust really affects my allergies the most throughout the year. Winter is the driest time of year too. I hope these seasons don't kick your butt so hard.

New sub…long time CO resident…you covered a lot & with beautiful visuals! I grew up in KS. Learned to ski @ age 16 while visiting family here. That did it for me! My extended family was instrumental in the early sixties & seventies building parts of a “little” town called Breckinridge. At that time there was one stop light, Peak Eight, & the Goldpan Saloon. 😅 The Eisenhower Tunnel was a work in progress. The pack burrow races over Hoosier Pass was a thing! Yep, seen lots of change. I was most surprised finding Peaks 6, 7, 9 & 10 had been added to that ten mile range! Our last property was in Peak Seven West. Circumstances took us out of the mountains but not out of CO. Ft Collins is now home. The advantages living here still far out weigh any disadvantages. I look forward to your other CO videos…Thanks! 🌼

I’ve never felt so connected to a city/state while traveling. I’m from Georgia though so I’m trying to determine if I should start by moving to a bigger city vs. Breck/a ski town. I love to ski and the culture of Breck, but figure that would be a big jump from Atlanta. Do you have any suggestions?

The only good part is that living right next to NYC all my life means that no prices, tax rates or rent prices seem all that high to me LOL. The only thing I’m worried about is that it may seem boring compared to what I’m used to, but I love the outdoors and peace and quiet and hate living in a busy city. Moving in the next few months - nervous but excited 🙂

It is insane. Aspen recently opened a retail strip mall in the town and they have signs on the outside looking for employees "starts at $13 and hour". And I am thinking, who in the world can afford to live in Aspen on that wage? I get that mountain towns are harder to access and ship goods to along with other factors that up the cost of living. But it seems like a bit extreme currently.

Looking into Colorado, haven't made a choice yet, I'm from South Carolina and my boyfriend is from Colorado. I've been trying to get him to move to SC because it's cheaper, little snow, low homeless people on every corner (looking at Denver and Aurora) and I've already have a home, he still lives with family. However because I love him, I'm on here giving it a lot of thought. Pros I do like that weed is legal there though, low humidity, minimum mosquitos (at least when I visited), better roads and I personally thought tap water tasted better there. It's a hard choice for us.

It kinda scares me because majority of all my family is here and being that far away from them is kinda scary. Then again, I used to live in Virginia and North Carolina so I got used to being away from them but I guess because Colorado is so far out west is probably why it scares me a little.

The good news is that Colorado still has big ol' international airport. So getting a direct flight from anywhere to DIA is pretty easy. But some families and people grow closer when they move away. Happened to my mom when she moved from her 9 other siblings. The distance made family gatherings (when they did happen) intentional and more fulfilling for her. Distance oddly enough bridged the gap between some family members. I guess what I am saying is there will always be a silver lining in any situation and sometimes you come out the other end a better, more rounded person :)

I’m from Alabama too, and I went to Breck last year. It’s incredible. Life’s too short, find a way to make it happen! My girlfriend and I are looking at moving too. It truly was that enjoyable of a visit. Everyone is so laid back and the natural beauty of the state is surreal. Everyone just wants to chill and actually live life in Colorado (in my experience). Whereas in Alabama, you have a lot of people who concentrate on the petty things like politics, or so it seems. I love AL too, but it’s so mundane after growing up there. The good news: Colorado is only about a 2.5 hour flight from Huntsville or Birmingham. I left my house at 6 am and was walking around Denver by 10 am local time!

@HashtagColoradoLife

It's really what the body (whether it a pet or a person) is used to -- I know people can take upwards of months to fully acclimate to high elevation. There exists a reverse altitude sickness called high-altitude de-acclimatisation syndrome that I got one time going to sea level. The doc's advice was "ascend to higher elevations". So I scrubbed the trip and went home. Sorry you lost your dogs over it. Never easy losing a pet.

I moved to Colorado Springs in July from Orlando. A few things I have noticed: 1. Cold weather. Honestly, not nearly as bad as I was thinking. I knew it would be cold but with the lack of humidity - it doesn't feel that bad as long as the wind isn't too bad. Even at -10F, not _that_ bad, honestly. 2. While the cold can be an issue, the real issue for me is the lack of humidity. Orlando had too much - Colorado has too little. This impacts skin health - so I use lip balm and lotion a lot. It also results in having static electricity issues, especially on carpeted floors. 3. It can be a bit windy here. Lack of trees means there is nothing to slow down winds coming off the mountains. It normally isn't too bad, but occasionally we can experience serious wind storms. 4. Fires. Even Florida had wildfires - but they are way more common in Colorado because of the dry climate. 5. Winter driving. If you are coming from a southern state, learning to drive in snow and ice is challenging. Thankfully, one of my vehicles is AWD - which has been great. 6. Colorado-born folks really resent you. Most are ok when I tell them I'm _not_ from California. But, honestly, the same thing was in Florida - folks would commonly tell me "we are full, go home." 7. Denver metro and to some extend Colorado Springs have growth issues, which results in bad traffic - even so, Florida was _way_ worse for more of the state. 8. Weekend ski traffic on I-70. Thankfully, since I live in the Springs, I take the back way most times. But, I also sometimes take paid leave to go skiing mid-week. 9. Fall colors are just one. They look amazing with the right backdrop but there is little diversity in the color. There are rare patches of anything but golden yellow. Still, I prefer the colors of the East. 10. Very little water recreation. Granted, even in Florida, I never dared swim in the lakes and even the springs were iffy. My kids didn't like the beach, so that was sorta wasted. 11. Road conditions. Yeah. Colorado roads aren't that good. The main roads/highways tend to be "ok" but surface streets can be problematic. I actually prefer it when the snow pack fills in the potholes. LOL 12. Housing. I don't know how folks do it. I make an exceptional income and I find the housing expensive here. We ended up building in Colorado Springs. Apartments weren't that hard to come by. There were plenty of options available - but we did secure one without seeing it first simply because we were in Orlando. It worked out, great unit with an excellent mountain view and pet friendly. No place is perfect. You always have trade-offs. I recommend anyone considering a move - rent for 6 months first before fully committing if you can. This was especially true in Florida - folks assume it is paradise because they come there on vacation. Florida is only paradise in the winter - but I'd rather be skiing.

Get on Zillow and just check around in each city to get a gauge. Or look at online cost of living calculators and find a town or neighborhood that feels reasonably priced or comparable to what you already are paying. Within the front range cities, east side of town (away from mountains) will be cheaper. Look at suburbs and outside of town. Also consider, if you are not going to be home often (cause you'll be outside and exploring). Home can just be a small 1 bed apt if you spend 99% of your time out and away.

Colorado is a great state. Politics are pretty neutral, it's blue but not far left (maybe Boulder a little). Crime is average unless you're around the shady areas of Denver. Yeah cost of living is going up but so is the rest of the country no escaping that. Winters do get cold but unlike the Midwest it's tolerable.

I'm looking to move soon. What are some good areas to rent in? Single, 40s, blk woman. Need to be near public transportation. TIA ❤

I am going to assume Denver area? Any of the other major cities in CO (besides Denver) have TERRIBLE public transportation. Westminster, Littleton, Lakewood or Wheatridge would all be sizeable suburbs that are more or less considered to be Denver and should be populated enough to warrant a capable public transit system.

@@HashtagColoradoLife honestly I'm open. I'll just be coming without a car, which is why I'd need the transit system

The housing market has slowed down since this video was put out. You can still sale your house, but not at over the asking, anymore.

Went to Colorado for the first time last year. It's absolutely everything I'm missing in Massachusetts. I can't leave this state soon enough! (Because everything here is so expensive it's hard to save enough money to leave) 😭

It's all soooooo $$$ right now. And your situation is doubled by the fact MA is verrry far away from CO

I've lived in Colorado for the past 8years now from Wisconsin.. it is truly majestic and yes, God's country. Our craft beers are some of the favorite parts of traveling and sampling. It is so very expensive though, you pay to play.. The housing needs to be better for the people who live there.. not just for tourist's.. Someone's gotta spin those lifts and wait your tables and clean up your hotel rooms. More lodging going up then actual housing.. it's a problem.

Yes it's true that Colorado is getting more expensive everyday. You definitely have to pay for the beautiful scenery and amazing things to do.

@@HashtagColoradoLife Not that it isn't worth it, for the scenery and the grand escape to the backyard of possibilities.. The housing situation is what's really wrong. Not enough for the locals.

How do Coloradans feel about outsiders moving in? My wife and I live in Tx and we want to get out asap. We are highly considering Colorado. I’m born and raised Texan but it doesn’t seem like Texas anymore. Most 100% Texans don’t want outsiders here. Just wondering how people feel there.

People are the same everywhere it seems. People can get rather uppity when it comes to people moving to an area they consider to be "their own". And it is very much also the case here in CO. You can expect 9/10 people to be kind (or at least amicable about it) while that 1 other person will tell you to get out and you aren't welcome. Expect more or less the same response non-local folk get in TX. My suggestion tho. Boldly go for w/e you want and forget what others say. As long as you aren't an obnoxious person that gets upset at people or political views in Colorado for not being enough like Texas. Most people will be happy to see another kind face move to the state.

Im stuck in houston and i really hate it. I want to be in a small country style town in Colorado but i dont know where to even begin looking for housing. I want open land, a mile from all neighbors, dont care if its on a gravel road or if its just land, ill build my home and stay out of a rv.

My suggestions would be a simple Google search for the least populated counties in the state and use that as a jumping off point. Consider things like how close you want to be to a town/city, if the county population swells from a brief tourism seasons, the types of weather you prefer (north and south CO are just as different from one another as east and west CO is). Your goal is 100% attainable.
