Just want to say that the last picture of the rocks in the lake might be my favourite picture of yours that I have ever seen, and I've been watching your videos for at least 2-3 years at this point! The rocks coming out of the water diagonally remind me of a beach I used to go to when I was young and have loved how that looks ever since!

Thomas, the main reason lens collars are used is so that the weight of the heavy and long lens will be balanced well with the camera body and won't damage the mount on the camera body, which can be damaged easily and pulled out of alignment and bent. It's best to use them when a lens comes provided with a tripod collar mount for those reasons.

I learn something new with each of your videos. While so many others can be incredibly superficial and lackadaisical with their photography, yours has substance, depth, and purpose. While teaching myself through my own journey, I have also had the privilege of vicariously learning through the journeys of photographers such as yourself. It is greatly appreciated and I sincerely thank you.

I was wondering when Hasselblad were going o get one of these into Mr Heaton's hands. I love what Hasselblad has done, it's exactly what most photographers want, simple, and easy to use, and the actual "camera" gets out of the way. Once the the photographer picks a system and invests in lenses just a simple "back" upgrade and there's a "new" camera. Well done Hasselblad and keep making the videos.

your comment on lack of long lenses is just another reason to do what I have done. I use the Fujifilm GFX50r and have a techart adapter. That adapter allows me to use my Canon ef glass, my old long lenses. The adapter is smart so I have AF and aperture control. And I am finding most EF lenses cover the sensor. And those that don't I can shoot the camera in 35mm full frame format. I also have FD, Minolta, Leica and other adapters which allow older manual focus lenses to be used. Many of them are crazy beautiful, like the old Leica Elmarit 135 f4 lens I have. The versatility of being able to use both dumb and smart adapters makes my 50r my favorite camera I have ever owned in my 40+ yrs of shooting. Don't underestimate adapters.

I’ve just sold my X1D and a couple of other cameras to buy this. Sure, it’s a bit more expensive than the X1D II 50C (with its EVF) but worth remembering it’s actually two cameras in one: a modern medium format system to use with Hasselblad’s XCD lenses, and a 50MP digital back which will also work seamlessly with my lovely 500C/M. That ticks so many boxes for me and I was surprised when Hasselblad announced it at £5990. Great video, Thomas. And I’m very keen to see and hear your thoughts when you use the digital back with your old Hasselblad.
@lindsaywebb19043 жыл бұрын
Andrew Pemberton actually when I first saw it I thought it was just a digital back
@Crispy_Bee3 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't have been able to use it on my old 503CW - it was bad enough to use the 645 backs - what use is the big camera and the big mirror and the big viewfinder if everything gets cropped anway? No square format => no use for the big camera. Also - Hasselblad stated that they aren't going to produce high res backs for the V system because the lenses aren't good enough. Now suddenly that doesn't matter, now that they can milk these customers too they simply will forget about that. Oh well. Might as well get a PhaseOne back for the 500C/M, there are even full frame 645 backs that you can get for way less than the 907X.
@ThePlodger3 жыл бұрын
I have an H2 with an older Phase One P65+ back. The phase is full size 645, no crop. It can be a handful to use - it’s heavy, eats battery, user interface is a bit weird though actually very comfortable when you get used to it and you get it dialed in. It’s a CCD, not CMOS, so the down side is that it doesn’t do high ISO. But the flip side is that the colour is absolutely amazing, and the image quality is incredible. It wasn’t cheap second hand a couple of years ago when I bought it, but it was stratospherically expensive new.
@Crispy_Bee3 жыл бұрын
@@ThePlodger I had the same back on a PhaseOne camera. Image quality is great but - to be honest - nothing that can't be matched with a modern CMOS camera. The larger sensor though...

I just looked up your work. I could have done this with any camera! So what is so special in a Hasselblad? I only used it when working between 1968 and 1975, as a photographer working for CBS record company. As the sleeves were square! No camera produces a photographer!

Funny. I made a PowerPoint proposal for a similar camera a few years ago. But my proposal was intended for Fuji... because I love my Fuji. My proposal was sort of a “Fujiblad”. One difference was to put the screen on the top, but still tilt-able. Design the flip so it could flip to back for eye-level shooting and flip to front for selfie/vlog. But priority was for waist level shooting. Also an attachable waist-level hood for the display to shield the sun. Since square sensors are rare and expensive, maybe put the sensor in portrait orientation rather than landscape. Anyway, I couldn’t find any means of sharing my idea with Fuji. All channels seemed blocked to me. And one KZbin photographer told me nobody would want this. In the end, I suppose this camera really ought to be made by Hasselblad anyway. Nice to see they did something similar to what I imagined.

I love the look of the camera, with its smooth, rounded chromed edges, it really makes you want to hold it. Forget about taking photos with it, just caress it. I wonder if they sell a cheaper one with no sensor of electricity nice in.... I’m not a fan of having to press and hold buttons and turn a dial to adjust aperture, I’ve had cameras like that before and I’m not keen on them. The loss of a view finder on a camera like that, for the sort of subjects it’s likely to be used on, I can’t see as a major issue, the LCD looked bright and contrasts enough to rely on in daylight. I’m looking forward to you putting the back on the 500cm.

I fell in love with 907X specs & have recently watched reviews & still have 3 Hass film bodies & lenses which I used for landscape a lot of which was in the Lakes but they haven’t been used now for years (original thought in keeping them was a digital back) as it’s been Canon/Nikon digital. You didn't mentioned it in the video Thomas but you can actually use the old H'blad bodies with the new digital back, which will also allow you to use your waist level finder and the older H'blad leaf shutter lenses, permitting both shutter and aperture adjustments directly from the lens. Greg

Hey Thomas, great video as always. Thanks for actually putting some background information about this camera in the video because everything I've seen so far is basically marketing.
