Landscape photography and mist go hand in hand, so it stands to reason that much like good light, mist is worth chasing. In this video I pack my camera bag and go in search of perfect landscape photography conditions. I venture outdoors and into the woods, hoping for that illusive mist and fog. During the process of searching for great photographs I find myself becoming more and more desperate as the chance of great conditions slowly slip through my fingers.

I've enjoyed your videos for years, and though I like all of them, these where you drive to a more local area and just go for a wander are most often my favorite. It's such a reminder that you can go out and create beautiful images without flying halfway around the world. I am a little spoiled, though. I'm in the US within driving distance of the Smoky Mountains of east Tennessee, and there's more beauty there than I could ever hope to capture. Happy shooting even in these crazy times!

Hardest thing for me to do when out on the road is if I see a nice scene, jamming on the brakes and taking a picture of it. It's hard to get away from that "I have someplace I'm going" mindset and taking a few minutes to stop.

@Bobby Brady that diversity of approach is what makes each one unique. The beauty of any human expression :) it's wonderful to see many different views and approachs, that even if they are different, they all do the same in the end: values the beauty of the nature and our common home(Earth).
@pedrofalcon7863
@pedrofalcon7863 3 жыл бұрын
@Bobby Brady well, first, sorry if I said something wrong or couldn't express myself well hahah but everyone have a different mindset and sometimes have planned objectives. Time and natural light are something we don't control, so naturally there are people who prefer to pass by and endure the "pain" of passing by, even if it is a wonderful scene, to try to capture the perfect photo they already have planed or otherwise they will lose it, it's a incredible and ambitious focus and discipline, really. Sometimes you have to measure if it's worth it, mostly when you have already an objetive, a plan, a project, it can go wrong and the scene you passed by turned out to be better, but that's life. I'm not like that, I would definitly pull the car to see the scene, not sure if I would capture it, but to apreciate it is for sure. I think we try hard enough to put people in the same box we have in our heads, everyone do it, but everyone is different, so there are different aproaches as well.

I am with Seth on this one. I have a touch of Aspergers I think, where, once I have set myself somewhere to be, I really struggle to deviate. It doesnt make me any less passionate, its something I physically and mentally fight to try and do, but it often leaves me feeling highly distressed (and stressed to the point of distraction) that the plan is not going the way it 'should'. Theres also the fear that the place or shot I was aiming for might be missed because I stopped. Sometimes its just easier to suffer the disappointment, and continue the drive.

Many many years ago I was cycling along a road through the local woods at about 1am after watching An American Werewolf in London at my girlfriends house, It was one of those nights when the Moon was low on the horizon, so it was looking huge, with clouds blowing over it............Imagination !!!! Too bloody right, I've have never cycled so kin fast in my entire life :-)

Similar happened to me years ago. I went running in a very cold, dark and foggy winter night. Got on a trail in a forest. The headtorch light could not reach far trough the fog, the snow muffled every step. I suddenly felt this knot in my stomach and this eerie sensation. I hurried out of the woods as fast as I could and felt relief when I reached the first settlement. Usually I‘m having a good laugh when watching horror movies 😂

The ‘mind games’ you touched on early in this video, I can resonate with that Tom. I ventured out on Monday morning at 5am and wandered through Bradgate Park near to where I live as I embarked on a sunrise ‘tree’ image that I’m after. Head torch on in the complete darkness, I was for the most part surrounded by scores of reflected beady eyes of the local deer in the park as they sat in the surrounding grassy areas, REALLY spooky...... Great vid as always, admire your work and struggles 🙌

Well done! I both love and hate these kinds of frantic shoots myself. The chase of it is really fun and quite adventurous in a sense. Without doubt, this kind of video is my favourite that you produce. It provides a fascinating insight into your photographic eye and how you pick out compositions in landscapes most of us have on our doorstep. You were very despondent at the start (as I would be) but you pull out some magical and beautiful images. Liked all of them, but yes the tree and birds in flight was the standout image. Top work sir, please more videos like these 😀 And finally, I know what that feeling, in a dark foreboding forest. I always remind myself that rather than being scared by birds suddenly flying off, that it’s a good sign, it means your the only person that has been that way 😏

I just have to pause the video and comment before I forget what I wanted to say. First off I totally get that feeling of having to be really careful to not let your imagination get carried away in a dark open space! I've done it and had to rein my mind back in before! Then you're talking about stopping on a road with no place to pull over and I've done that too. I've been stopped on a lonely road with one ear tuned to listen for any traffic coming and most of my attention on composing a shot I just had to try for! I also really like exploring side roads to see if they'll lead to anything interesting. :) Last, I absolutely love that shot with the birds flying in front of the sun with the mist making everything mysterious!
