I think you guys appreciate fan feedback and opinions so here's my major thoughts on this podcast!: I think censorship is a tricky thing. Bigotry will always be a thing, so fighting the root of this issue (education, parents, etc) won't solve it. Bigotry will always find a way to be heard, so censorship won't solve it. I think at the end of the day, companies such as KZbin will censor/demonetize these things regardless because it either doesn't align with the companies views or the majority's views. I honestly think demonetization is a decent middle ground. They will still be able to speak, but they won't earn money off of the platform. There is no solution, and the only thing you can do is find middle grounds and solutions for the majority (which can also be dangerous). The best thing anyone can do is find your own opinions, stay educated, and try not to get caught up in the opposing view. On the topic of social media and taking pictures of events and such, I find there's a generation gap. Not to say you boys are old, but I don't personally see kids my age (I'm 18) saying "Oh I have to post this so people know I'm having a good time." It's simply something we've grown up with, showing the things we do on social media. It's just a thing we do now, and most of us see it as a fun thing. It definitely can be easy to get caught up in social media, but I think the more we live with it, the more these things will become none-issues. For example, you always hear of elderly people falling for scams and viruses, but both you and I can most likely spot these things fairly easily. The good thing about social media is that it's mostly transparent. The more self aware we are of social media, the less negative it will impact us (in my opinion, obviously). Personally, I use social media to feel a greater sense of connection with my peers and the people I idolize. I follow you boys on social media because it's a more personal connection (as creepy as it sounds). And honestly, yes, I do use it to feel less lonely and perhaps the greatest issue with social media is that it makes us more intolerant of being alone. I find it really good and healthy that you guys discuss these things. It's important to chat about this stuff with your lads! And I appreciate you providing us with these chats.

Guys I’m a fan of you and Steven Crowder, both. So as your fan I beg you to add context to everything you’ve said about him. Even if you don’t agree with him just listen to him. I really encourage you to look more in-depth to what he says. The super cut of is misleading I promise. He’s a comedian who believes in the first amendment to the death and everything in the cut are in addendum to rebuttals to political statements Vox and Carlos Maza made. Also Smith holds the same opinion as Crowder himself regarding hearing all opinions regardless of offense. Regarding KZbin is it’s own company and can control what ever it wants to do. According to Crowder’s legal counsel the issue is that KZbin has stated that he has violated no policies and still have taken action against him. His most recent message is that you could be next. You could be the next one to make a comment that will hurt someone’s feelings and then you will be deplatformed or demonetized because one person complained loud enough.

Just want to break it down a bit. Hats lads immediately called Crowder homophobic after a clip reel. Crowder uses descriptor words for most people because they are accurate and people, for some reason, think it is bad. Not once did he attack Maza for his person, but instead attacked his poor journalism.

So the guy Crowder is calling "a lispy queer" is a self proclaimed proud Queer with a lisp... Crowder is using it as joke, he doesn't Dox him or assault him physically. He takes the piss out of him for being a Vox worker with the political views he has. He isn't Homophobic and if he really is, we need to talk about how Maza "the victim" has on mutiple times tweeted about taking the fight to the straight oppressors in public, attacking straight people because they're all bad guys.

i watch crowded off and on and while i don't agree with his politics i don't think he is a bad person. that clip is pretty bad but its also cut from a much much longer video. it would be pretty easy to cut you out of context to make you seem like pricks. that happens whenever you make fun of anyone. context matters. The reason people like crowder is because he doesn't cut context from his videos. when he has debates there are no cuts, its sometimes 30-40 minutes of dialog. unfortunately people who don't agree with him wont watch the whole thing, they will just see clips that show him in a bad light. i personally don't think his videos should be demonized but your videos get demonetized quite often when they probably shouldn't.

To the point about how you'd ensure that people aren't just faking it, that rules enforced actually are a force for change, rather than just hiding the hate away and letting it fester, I'd argue that very few haters, whether they be homophobes, transphobes, racists, sexists etc. actually are true believers, i.e. maintain genuine hate. Most haters use slurs and so on for two reasons: To shield themselves from having to engage in introspection, when engaging with people of differing viewpoints, and as shorthand to signal what group they belong to, to other like-minded people. If they can't do that, because social media services providers clamp down on that type of content, I would argue, you'd enable them discovering that they don't need to be complete arseholes to belong, to experience fellowship. This is all going back to the idea that any system, based on complete freedom, only works in everyone's favor if every participant acts in good faith, and with everyone else's best interests at heart. Any self-interest strong enough to override empathy will corrupt the system, the one degree or another. If we suddenly disbanded all forms of government, for instance, you'd know for certain that, within a couple of weeks, we'd have a militaristic dictatorship on our hands.
@lewis6590

The problem is that you can't make someone learn by telling them to shut up and learn. Shutting these people down not only convinces them that they are on to a dangerous truth that needs to be suppressed, it's done out for the exact reasons you mentioned ('To shield themselves from having to engage in introspection, when engaging with people of differing viewpoints, and as shorthand to signal what group they belong to, to other like-minded people.') It's impossible to create compassion by withdrawing compassion. It's impossible to have someone understand you while you call them stupid, ____ist, arseholes, etc.

Man I'm really digging these podcasts. There's probably a better place to voice my opinion on these, but for now I'll write it here. As other people may have voiced, these videos are fueled by a lot of talking (on Smith's part usually) trying to drive the talks for the podcast. There's also a lot of stuff that, while nice to hear your opinions on, seems to be largely unorganized and doesn't really have solidarity when it comes to the information (such as the videos and articles); as well as, the discussion rotation between the three of you boiks. Maybe if there was more forethought as to not just what the topic is, but how each of you guys plan to contribute to the conversation, that would make it feel more dynamic and less biased towards a certain mindset. Because I'd love to hear more on Ross and Trott's opinions even if it's scripted to be talked about beforehand instead of a lot of "hmms" and "oh yeah". As a final note I just wanna say that I'm really happy you guys do this stuff regularly and are so dedicated to your fanbase. This is all the opinion of someone who doesn't know your schedules or plans, but wants to help improve the content you guys give us. Much love

Not disregarding your point, I fully agree that Smith (ngl is possibly my favourite of the three so I'm probably a bit biased) does talk a lot and bring up the points but I do like that. However, I also agree with you that I would like to hear more points brought up by Ross and trott. I don't really like the idea of rough scripting beforehand with who talks as I like the free flowing nature this podcast has even if some of the facts are scratchy memories.

That video from Carlos Maza took short clips from years of Crowder's show, none of the actual segments where he's legitimately rebutting the Vox videos contain more than a few seconds of mocking Carlos for his shallow personality, if we cut bits and pieces out of years of anyone's videos and strung them together we could make anyone look any way we wanted. Not to mention, Maza encouraged his followers to physically assault conservatives, this whole thing was playing the victim card in place of having anything of value to say politically.

The clip you showed on the "Steven Crowder fiasco" was heavily edited with no context as to why those things were said, Hes a political Comedian who does skits and a lot of rebuttals on "fake news" and various other content. Majority of the comments he said about him being "Queer" "Gay" were actually Carlos Maza's own preferred labels. I enjoy your content lads, but if you're going to comment on certain things do take the time to look more in-depth before slating someone. You said it yourself "context matters" even making a comparison to Trott being or not being an animal abuser you stated that you had no evidence to prove any of the above. Don't just read left wing "journalists" report on it, read both sides and form an educated opinion. Just take 10 minutes out your time to check his video "VOX is trying ban this channel" @StevenCrowder Or if you want a more balanced view on it check @TimCast. Of course you don't want to spend the whole podcast covering a specific topic, but just rashly and quickly going over the subject with little to no information and heavily edited clips doesn't do anyone justice. I will be looking forward to the next podcast.

Context really does matter, and so do first impressions. They knew very little about the guy, and judged him based off of an edit by someone who doesn't like him to make others not like him. I'm sure Smithy could have easily sided with the guy if his first impression was a video where he agrees with him on a matter.

When it comes to the discussion on censorship and the modern 'shock jocks', I always think people forget we're still animals. We aren't perfect, seemingly random events happen and they imprint on us, most people aren't 100% fit to be parents yet still are (very few people have all the resources and mental faculty required to raise a perfectly healthy adult who is well adjusted), we male mistakes all the time. While people should strive to be better, more understanding, more welcoming, etc, it's also unfair to judge everyone on what we deem to be 2023s idea of a perfect person. We expect people to have all the right views, and there definitely are incorrect views on things, it's also important to remember we're just dumb apes. We aren't all run by AI yet, the human brain is not infallible. I pretty much agree with Smith, censoring doesn't really work to fix it. It's like having an illness and a doctor saying to just not tell people so we don't hear about it, therefore the problem is gone. I'm not advocating husbandry or eugenics or testing people before they have kids, I'm not a psychopath, but I just think we have to accept a lot of people are broken for a myriad of reasons and you can't expect everyone to have the right morals. You should educate others where possible, but some people spend their lives constantly outraged that someone else doesn't share their views without trying to understand why they might not. Were they abused by a black man as a child, were they raised by a soldier who saw a certain kind of people committing horrific things and heard stories all their upbringing?

Yes because it was taken back by the LGBT community. It's a slur which we took back like how 'nigga' is almost said exclusively by African Americans. WE can say it because it's our word. It is still a slur for a non LGBT person (without consent/permission/understanding) to call someone who is LGBT "A queer"

From the perspective of a person who is in the lgbt community, we have been having civil debate with bigots for decades, it just doesn't really work. You can only get so far as when you debate with an unjust person they will always win when you have to meet them in the middle. Its such a difficult thing as yeah for some people a civil conversation where you explain to a person with learnt bigoted beliefs that lgbt people Are people and are deserving of respect and a happy life, it may sway them. But if you keep debating with people who really do not want to change their mind you are wasting your breath and silencing them is the best course of action as they will not indoctrinate anyone else who doesn't know better. It's the intolerance of intolerance and its going to be a difficult fight for the rights of lgbt+ people all over the world as there is never going to be a clear answer.

But as someone who sees so much bigoted behaviour even within the lgbt comunity it gets exhausting debating and trying to be civil all the time and sometimes you just want all the bigots to shut up and stop spreading their messages of hate. Mate, i just dont know how to tell you that hate speech, even non violent hate speech, eventualy leads to violence and probably not even violence from the speaker but those they have indoctrinated with hate who get their own ideas of how to deal with their hate. And to paraphrase Justin McElroy, freedom of speach protects you from the government not from the public. I really do belive in freedom of speach, but when the speach "disagrees" with innocent peoples existance the *people* (and private companies are included in this) have every right to tell them to shut it.

Oh yeah I watched some of his stuff once. It was 45mins of him not citing sources, calling socialists 'f*ggots' and making racist jokes about immigrants (especially Mexicans - he really gets a laugh out of them). The story with the journalist was literally just a guy complaining about homophobic slurs - it hardly matters what the man said that Crowder disagreed with. Conservatives really claim to be on the side of 'Facts and Logic' but when you get them in any sore of corner that bullshit facade slips away and the race-baiting and scaremongering spurts out through like a wet shite.
