newheat64 Thanks for joining the rest of us gladius users, I hope you have bought yourself a new one, as you will have the option to return it if yours has a poor finish. I understand that the problems have been resolved to a certain degree but hatsan are still holding back on spare parts for this rifle. My serial number starts 05 and my friends starts with 07 and the sloppy cocking leaver is still sloppy. I would advise you to go to the shop and handle the one you are going to purchase and not one you have not handled. Good luck garry

Hi newheat64, I would advise you to have a good look at your own one before you part with your money, although I think they are a nice bullpup there are better ones out there. And ones that shoot straight out of the box this rifle takes a lot of time to find the right pellet and you could go through 30 plus different ones before you get it right. The biggest problem is to clean the barrel and I found that removing it and unscrewing the end cap holding the o-ring where the pellet probe goes in saves a lot of time. Look out for the poor crowning on the other end of the barrel some of them are off centre and the pellet clips sending it sideways. There is so much wrong with this company when they send out poor products and so much wrong with the company’s who import them and don’t check them over for quality. Just don’t except it from the shop that it is perfect because it’s a Turkish made bullpup and nothing exceptional comes out of turkey.

its bad very bad so if you have a mate who can put it together properly then buy it, but i took mine to the range just to shoot it 70 shoots in all to see what happened not even bother about if it shoots in a straight line after 70 shoots it was falling apart loose screws and grub screws, side cocking metal on metal grinding no lubrication. BUT i like a challenge it has the potential to be a good gun, and the ones sent out for professional reviews must be hand lovinging made because the mass produced ones are SHIT

Thanks for the video advice. It will be nice to see the full strip down video. I have just acquired a very pellet fussy .22 gladius. I am getting at best approximately a 3 inch group at 30 yards after trying 20 different types of pellet. It seems to group better with German H&N pellets. The usual suspects, JSB, Air Arms, Daystate are all over the place. I am hoping to get a barrel replacement and take out the anti tamper so that I can fine tune it, as well as fit a regulator. I have a pillar drill, so I will have to get a hold of one of the drill bits to fit. I too have fitted a baby bottle brush to quieten the rifle down. You tend to notice it more, as your ear is right next to the hammer and spring, but as a bystander, its just the thud that you hear. Great video.

Hi Garry, I’m following your guide to the removal of the anti-tamper on my Hatsan Gladius. Very helpful, thanks a lot. The allen key screw under the magazine area feels as if the importer has glued it. Will a hairdryer be hot enough to melt the superglue or will I need to use a blowtorch? Regards, Baz.

I had a faulty air tank on my Gladius (one of the first batch of 100 to be distributed in the UK last year) which was 100% down to poor engineering of a metal part causing a valve to fail. I sent photos and spoke at length to one of E.B's technical specialists who concurred that the fault was indeed down to Hatsan at the time the parts were produced and/or assembled. Within 48 hours the guy I was dealing with said he would send me out a new air tank for free the next day... Yay! 2 weeks later after sending 3 or more emails to them, I got a response from one of their customer services guys who informed me that Hatsan had not supplied EB with any spares for the tanks or any spare tanks and very few spares at all. All they had in stock were 10 Gladius rifles that were ready to go out to people who pre-ordered from them direct months before release, he said that if i wanted he would take a tank off one of the 10 guns and send it to me but it would mean one of their pre-order customers who had paid up front, would be left waiting for a few months as the next full batch of 200 guns was delayed (due to qualitly control issues), this made me feel really guilty as I hadn't pre ordered mine and was just litrally in the right place at the right time and snagged one of the first UK batch that had all either gone out to magazine and websites for reviews or had gone to their largest RFD's for display and/or pre-order purposes (in my case the RFD was a friend and he had been sent both a .177 and .22, so he kept the .22 for display/pre orders in his large gun shop and sold me the .177 for a little over cost price). So I told them that I had other guns (including my amazing brand new Brocock Compatto that i was (and still am) in love with that I had purchased a few weeks earlier - albeit also with a faulty tank, a tiny spring washer and o ring on the quick fill valve for which my RFD sent a replacement "fill valve upgrade kit" from Brocock 2 days after contacting them) so I would wait for EB to get some spare tanks in, which they assured me would be within 4-6 weeks... 7 months and 10+ emails later a new tank finally arrived without notice, it looked like shit (all the bluing was patchy and had areas untreated, but I managed to use the parts from it and swap them out into the original tank with its good finish to finally get a fully functional and good looking tank over 8 months after purchase and first catching the fault... Absolutely useless! Once the gun was fully functional it was only clocking a tiny bit over 10ft/lbs with a wild spread of velocity and the trigger was woolly as hell. I have stripped and made some ad-hoc fixes to the badly designed trigger system which now works nicely but haven't had the time to fix the power issue as shown in this very good video. I plan on getting it done this weekend albeit doing it just a little bit different to how the Anti-Tamper set up was removed from the gun in this video (but the same principle). I will photo and film the main steps I take and post them once I get the job done. I have owned my Gladius since 2 weeks after its UK release last year and only managed to shoot 200-300 shots before the tank failed and since fixing it I have had to deal with less than ideal power... It is a great looking gun and it has ALOT of potential but my goodness you need to put some work in to get it up to scratch. I do really like it, its a good Bullpup at a good price and I have been told that since various QC issues have been fixed, later guns are much better with numerous factory changes. I do prefer my Brocock Compatto (semi-bullpup) and my FX Wildcat but they were 230 and 550 quid more expensive... I am hoping that once I get into the action, get that power level up to 11.5ft/lbs and sort out any other little bits of poor design within its casing, that I will be left with a good looking pup which gives the rest of the UK BP air gun market a run for its money!!
@paulb81866 жыл бұрын
You don't need fancy tools you can use a power hand drill. Get a piece of wooden dowel the same diameter as the hole, ensure its a tight fit. Insert into hole with about 10 mm sticking out then hit it with a hammer. This will leave an impression of the snap pin on the dowel. Remove the dowel and drill a 2mm hole from the bottom where the snap pin impression is up. This is a drill guide it doesn't matter if the hole isn't perfectly centred at the top because the bottom hole is dead centre. Use the 2mm drill through the guide remove the snap pin end then change to a 4mm drill drill through the dowel guide and remove the rest of the screw head. Go easy because the head is shallow and will be off on no time.

Thanks for your comment, this gladius was produced for the lower power scale market country’s like us in the UK. Where we have a legal limit of 12ft/lb. So you will see small changes to the manufacturing side of the UK market. Hope this has answered your question.

Thanks too you all for asking me to do a new strip down but i am sorry i have sold this rifle and no longer buying Hatsan due to their poor quality and build but more so they will not even take control regarding replying to a buyers emails. It cost nothing to answer customers questions but does seem to be the way here.

Hi, yes you do have a small hole in the cocking lever that you use a 2-2.5 mm Allen key, pull back the cocking lever to the point just before you fully catch and insert key in the hole it does go in at least 2-3 cm to lock the hammer in place. This is the same as the US but without the power up dial. As to pellet fussy I use RWS SUPER FIELD and I tried 26 different pellets range from JSB, AA, LI, CROSSMAN, and many others. Biggest problem was the barrel I cleaned it for over 3 hrs till I was getting 2p size holes at 35yrds. Hope this helps you really do need to clean the barrel well.
@Sp1tfiref0rever7 жыл бұрын
Hi kenlum, just looking at the bullboss it seems to have the same action as the gladius but I am not 100% sure. The only difference I can see is the barrel and stock so I would suggest you watch my video again as many times as you can until you feel comfortable attempting this project. Please take your time and as long as you use the right tools and take photos at every stage so you can revert back to you can't go wrong. Depending on which country you live in you must remember your gun laws as we in the uk are limited to 12 ft/lb. if you do decide to take your hatsan apart three is also the problem that you can not get spares off the shelf for it. Have fun.
@airgunsniper-elite73857 жыл бұрын
Just a quick one. Do you have to hold the hammer in place while turning the power up, like you do on the high powered US versions. They have a special tool that fits in the side of the action and it is cocked fully, then returned to about 90 degree angle to access a hole near the cocking lever. Not really looked for that hole yet though, so it may not be on the UK models.

Hi there, if someone could make a better system on the trigger I would seriously consider changing to it, even though it's poorly made it does the job, I have just tried out 2 different ways to quiet down the pinging in the tank, first I used a baby's milk bottle brush method and then I bought a proper de-pinger. I found a £2 bottle brush much quitter than a£12.85 inc postage de-pinger. All I hear now is hammer hitting valve with no pinging at all. Open to any suggestions on how to make this rifle better.

Hi to all, I was going to get around doing the complete strip down this summer, but as the rifle is shooting sooooo nice at present I am in two minds about touching it. As the old saying goes IF IT AN'T BROKE DON'T FIX IT. So at the moment unless I decide that I need to take this apart it's going to have to wait, sorry folks but if you do need to ask anything about the hatsan I am happy to help.

Hi Tom I use a 6mm milling bit, you can use this in a drill press or milling machine but not advised using a normal hand drill as you will not be able to keep it dead central hope this answers you're question.

Hi all, just a general update it seems that hatsan are not releasing any spares for the bullpups yet, so I am going to look at changing the Turkish barrel for a Czech barrel. I have had a lot of problems with this barrel and hatsan have not got back to me regarding a replacement so I am going to see if I can adapted a AA S200 barrel with a bit of work it might work, will update on this job over the winter months.

Hatsan/Edgar Bros are useless with spares and repairs on the current UK range of their air guns. Am also told that UK stock of Hatsan bullpups are running low due to various factors...
@Sp1tfiref0rever7 жыл бұрын
Hi Nial, seems that the horse has bolted and a long way away now, maybe hatsan should have put mrs May in charge of finished guns then there would only be minimal damage to the company name? But for Edgar brothers to let poor quality leave them is even worse. I will never ever buy a gun or even a wipe from them ever again. Just goes to show you that money is what they want and service to customers comes bottom of their list

Latest update on the new barrel, I have got a s200 barrel and a good friend of mine helped me get the barrel turned down to size but the problem is there is no o-ring seal on the probe a oversight on my behalf. But and a big but I have found out what the actual problem is with this barrel and it could not have been more simple, hatsan have a screw on end to the barrel which has a o-ring seal to the shroud which was glued onto the threads so I got my friend to remove this for me very carefully and you will never guess what? They only crowned the end of the barrel off centre and I mean badly done. So I have just finished using my mini hand grinder to make it more central and it’s now 10.35pm so tomorrow I am going to paste grind it to a perfect finish and I am waiting for new barrel o-rings to try it out. So there you have it, if yours is so pellet fussy it could be catching on the exit from the barrel crown which was rather ruff and non central, let you know when the new seals come. Garry

Hi Nigel, it’s been a while since I bought them but I did buy m3 12mm and 25mm with m4 12mm and25 mm the short gives access to the adjustments and the long stops anyone over adjusting, I am pretty sure they are m4 but if your like me I would buy both sizes from eBay for pence then I know I can’t be wrong. Hi, just a quick reply to your plea, even though I like this gun it will never be as good as my AA S200 or anywhere near one tenth as good as my AA EV2 mk1 this gun is only in my collection because it’s my first bullpup and I am still swaying about doing another strip down as of yet due to this is shooting as good as I can get it . Targets at 55 yards are a bit of 75% hit rate on a 40 mm disc due to still a poor barrel. I am looking at a second b/pup but not sure what as of yet. Maybe when the weather warms up one day over the weekends I might do it but I must say the grandkids comes first and they are up every other w/end leave it with me and I will try.

@Sp1tfiref0rever7 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark, thanks for the remark, I can only advise you that if you don’t have access to a pillar drill or a small milling machine it becomes a much harder and more finicky job. If you try to remove the anti tamper screw with screw extractors it does get very messy as the nipple on to stops you hitting dead centre. I tried this first and came to my own conclusion well I have well and truly screwed this up might as well go the whole nine yards and I must admit I felt good after the head came off. If you do have a go don’t be worried if you go a mil to deep you will feel the head come off but use a milling bit and not a drill bit. If you have no milling bits wait until you do as the drill bit slides off centre. Have ago you will learn so much about this gun and how easy it is to strip but just take your time and plenty of pictures at each stage
@markkemp20087 жыл бұрын
You can get a t20 anti tamper screwdriver head, can't you just unscrew the screw?
@Sp1tfiref0rever7 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark, to answer your question the anti tamper screw is just that it is in fact just like a small nail with a thread without any slots or holes only a small nipple where it snaps off when it reaches the max torque leaving a bit on top.

Hi, if you are looking for a really good rifle I would recommend the AA S400/410 in classic more shots per fill, but if you want a b/ pup try looking at the SMK P10/15 they are really good value b/pups and much simpler to work on with a far better barrel than the hatsan. As for the AA EV2 this is a much sort after target rifle with pinpoint accuracy it was only superseded by the FTP900 3 or 4 yrs ago and are very hard to come by so if you see one going for less than £800 by it. I will never let the AA rifles go in my collection as I will be handing them down to the granddaughter and grandson the meteor and gladius the kids can do what they want with these. All in all if you put time and money into your hobby and get them shooting to their best abilities and yours what more do you need. If the fun stops stop.

Hi , yep totally agree on uk law 12 ft pounds ,the reason I ask , I use rws super dome 14.5 gr , I got fac on chrono , 12 , 3 , when I use h and n barracuda hunter extreme , 19 .o9 , only get 10 , something , just wanna tweak it so under 12 ft pound , great vid by the way
@Sp1tfiref0rever7 жыл бұрын
Hi Glen, thanks for the comments, just to clarify you have a FAC LICENSE and you want to tweek it up to near the limit do I read you right, I have found that if you are trying out different pellets and they are put through the chrono, some pellets can lose the power as the barrel does not like them, I have tried over 30 different pellets now and it still likes the webley accupalls 7.9 grns putting out 815 feet a second which is 15 ft/sec short of max power. Have you removed the anti tamper screw to gain access to the adjustment grub screw yet. If so just remember turn anti clock to power up and clock wise to power down. Good luck
@Sp1tfiref0rever7 жыл бұрын
Glenn Puffett . Just having a look at your question regarding the output on your rifle. If you fire low weight pellets they will fly faster than the heavy weight, but you will still have the same power. So if you use say 8.4 jsb.177 doing 775 ft/sec = 11.2ft/lb energy leaving the muzzle but when you change to a heavy pellet say 10.92.177 doing 700 ft/ sec this equates 11.88 ft/ lb of muzzle energy. If you find that the power has dipped so much that you are losing muzzle energy to the extent of several ft/lb and you push the power up to compensate for this drop you will in fact put your rifle over the limit, so when you put a lighter pellet back in the breech it will go over the UK legal limit even if you have a FAC you will still be over as this rifle would not be on the license. When you do any work always use your chrono it seems to me that you need to find what pellet your rifle loves the most and try to stay a good 1/2ft/lb under. Hope this has helped you.
@Sp1tfiref0rever7 жыл бұрын
This is a uk sold hatsan at sub 12 ft/lb and yes you do need to power up by turning the very large grub screw in the rear. But if you are in the U.K and do not hold a FAC do not go over the limit, remember every air rifle owner is responsible for the power their weapons output is set at. I know I do not need to tell anyone this but if you adjust and setting on your air guns make sure you have access to a chronograph to measure the speed, you and you alone are accountable for the settings. Aim small Miss small good shooting.

Hi All, have the latest update on my duff barrel , seems to be that hatsan have not choked these barrels and that's the main reason for all the inaccuracies, cost cutting on the heart of a rifle is the worst thing any company has ever done. Do I have confidence in hatsan products from here on I DO NOT THINK SO, This is 1 customer that will not return to them, I will even go so far and say the same to BSA SPRINGERS, barrel in U.K. Body made in Spain by Gamo and this is a poor combo as advertised as full power but delivers less than 10ft/lb it's called meteor evo mk7. Crap?

Hi Wapeng1, just to put you straight on a few mis-conceptions a regulator does not increase power its only a device to give you the same amount of air at the same pressure this inturn gives you a consistent string of shots with no power curve. So if you have set up your rifle to the perfect settings and right bar you should get a tank full of shots within 3-15psi difference over hatsans 80 shot count. Then their is finding a reg that fits the gladius sud 12ft/lb i know they are avalable for the FAC gladius but not ours yet. If you do find someone with a reg for this gun you still need to be able to adjust the hammer to get the power right, putting a FAC reg in your hatsan will only lower ft/lb and use more air as a friend found out just a few weeks ago when he gave me his gladius for the anti tamper to be removed, he was only getting 680fps with reg and 50 shots once i removed the reg put it back without anti tamper its now shooting 80 shots around the 755fps. So a reg is only as good as the person who knows how to adjust the rifle and keep it under the legal limit. If you do any work make sure you have a chrono at you side all the time. Keep safe.

Hi mark, i will say this with honesty if you get one with the new barrel change they are lovely but if yours was anything like mine and by that i mean i got mine second hand and had no come backs with it, they are not worth taking to the lake and throwing it in with 10 tonne of lead tied to it. But i have worked on mine because i had to and i can now hit a 45mm kill at 55yrds 3 out of 4 times with accupels and its staying in my collection, i understand your frustration with it i really do and understand you getting rid off it.

Thanks kim, nice to get a person who feels the same as me. One thing i am going to tell you is that the barrel on this rifle is awful, i have emailed hatsan regarding the build and barrel quality with no response so much for the reputation they have for shipping shoddy guns, second is i sent edgar brothers in the uk who are main agents for hatsan a email afew days ago regarding the poor barrel and build but even i am too small a person to get a answer from them, maybe they are only intrested in the hard earned cash and sod the buyer aftersales, or it might be they have just overlooked my email..... naaa. As i have not had any luck with anyone i will be going down the route to rebarreling with a well trusted make CZ barrel have them on my EV2 & S200 so i would suggest if anyone is going to look at hatsan or edgar brothers put a cable tie on your wallet so you can,t spend it on shite. Another point i was told today is that unless you are going to run your hatsans on 30+ ft/lb the barrel does not like anything less as they where made for this market and adjusted to fit in the uk market sub 12. Still i will keep this updated once the new barrel gets done. Garry
