Total War: Shogun 2 Gameplay Information:
In the darkest age of Japan, endless war leaves a country divided. It is the middle of the 16th Century in Feudal Japan. The country, once ruled by a unified government, is now split into many warring clans. Ten legendary warlords strive for supremacy as conspiracies and conflicts wither the empire. Only one will rise above all to win the heart of a nation as the new shogun...The others will die by his sword.
Take on the role of one Daimyo, the clan leader, and use military engagements, economics and diplomacy to achieve the ultimate goal: re-unite Japan under his supreme command and become the new Shogun - the undisputed ruler of a pacified nation.
-----
Total War: Shogun 2 Features:
Total War: SHOGUN 2 features enhanced full 3D battles via land and sea, which made a name for the series, as well as the tactical campaign map that many refer to as the heart and soul of Total War. Featuring a brand new AI system inspired by the scriptures that influenced Japanese warfare, the millennia old Chinese “Art of War”, the Creative Assembly brings the wisdom of Master Sun Tsu to Total War: SHOGUN 2. Analysing this ancient text enabled the Creative Assembly to implement easy to understand yet deep strategical gameplay.
CONQUER the islands of Japan in the 16th century. Lead vast armies of samurai and fleets of giant warships into breathtaking real-time battles.
BUILD your kingdom on the inviting and turn-based campaign map. Wield economic, political, and military power to amass wealth, armies, and influence.
SCHEME according to the "Art of War" by Sun Tzu. Use fire and siege tactics, spies and assassins to adapt to the ever-changing conditions on the battlefield and throughout your kingdom.
BATTLE ONLINE and experience the main campaign in two-player mode. Then join epic online battles with up to 8 players and lead your online army to glory in special campaigns.

You've accidently missed the Hattori's hidden bonus; broken ambush battle, as kisho training forces all your infantry into long thin lines due to the deployment zone being different.

The Hattori look like a really unique and interesting clan to play as. Having so many units with Kisho training looks like it'll open up bunch of new, interesting tactics. Think I'll start a Hattori campaign now, in fact.

I won my first Hattori Camp with their ninjas. Took the capital city with an inferior force by tying their men down with fodder units in front and climbing the walls with ninjas in the back. By the time the Ashikaga got close to the ninjas the timer had run out.

You can actually provoke the Tsutsui to attack, often breaking their alliance w. Hatakayama in the process. The southern route is the safest. Ikko Ikki and/or Oda will destroy you, if you take the northern route, unless you're lucky and clever. True the Kisho Ninja are best in defense, but I had great success using them as vanguard for a fist of meele samurai deployed close to the enemy line. 2 volleys of bombs and then attack in the ensuing chaos. The enemy will break like a dry twig.

How do you make them attack you?
@freeradicalpanda
@freeradicalpanda 4 жыл бұрын
Andrew Wang You can use monks to incite revolt (expensive and will typically fail but do great damage to diplomatic relations either way) and/or use ninjas to assassinate Tsutsui generals and sabotage buildings. Ironically it’s best if the ninja fail and get discovered, revealing who sent them. A few seasons of this and the Tsutsui should be pretty p*ssed of at you. This method is not a failsafe though. Hatekayama might still join the war or the process can be so slow that you’re hopelessly vulnerable when Ikko Ikki or Oda knock on your door.
@brainwasher9876

@@freeradicalpanda yeah I think I'd rather just bum rush Tsutsui then and let Hatakeyama join. If memory serves me correctly Hatakeyama armies aren't big in the Kii peninsula anyway.
@freeradicalpanda
@freeradicalpanda 4 жыл бұрын
Andrew Wang Yeah that could work too (and a bit more straight forward 😅). I just tend to drain my ressources completely going west fighting both and then get f*cked in the ass by Oda and/or Ikko Ikki on turn 20-30.
@FShani
@FShani 4 жыл бұрын
Easy way to convince Tsutsui to attack is move all your troops out of your castle and hide them in the forest. Then give Tsutsui a trade agreement so they can see your empty castle. Alternatively, attack Omi early. Every clan around you will declare war on you, Tsutsui included. They really only have two expansion options and since the second one (Kitabatake) don't usually move their forces out of Ise for a while, they have their eyes set on Iga. All that said, I actually think it's better to attack the Tsutsui and let Hatakeyama join in. You're going to be at war with Hatakeyama soon enough, I'd rather deal with them before they have a chance to really build up. Kii is just as wealthy as Omi but is far less likely to be attacked. There's also the added benefit that the Honma don't get drawn into the war if it's through the Tsutsui. Honma are the probably the most annoying clan to deal with if you aren't near Sado early on.
@benerdick_cumberbiatch
@benerdick_cumberbiatch 6 жыл бұрын
I have a few tips. Don't upgrade or destroy your sake den Until you have built one in Omi. So you can have two Ninja agents. And don't upgrade your roads in Iga either. Once you have Omi destroy your sake den in Iga and build a market. Armies from Yamato will have a hard time reaching Iga with without roads and you can have their armies constantly sabotaged halting their progress and securing your border without an army. Eventually Omi will be very valuable if you have a smuggling network, a Mizu-shōbai district and a land consolidation. Omi, Echizen, Kaga, Omi and Mikawa are all great provinces to go for. and keep selling military access to the Ashikaga.

Can we agree that there's some issues of bad game design on the hattori ninjas? This is a faction supposed to have the best ninjas, therefore it would be thematic to have more of them than other factions. But if they are worst than regular ninjas then what's the point?
@ScientistMan96
@ScientistMan96 6 жыл бұрын
I'm quite certain that the issue is that the numbers were reversed for the ninjas. Were probably supposed to have the normal Kisho ninja's have 2 ammo, and the Hattori and Tokugawa specialists have the 11, but some coder swapped the 2, and CA don't care about their playerbase enough to change it. There is however a mod that does fix it.

steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=767475614 (edit: The mod is called the "Extended Clan Unit Bonuses Mod" if the link doesn't work. On steam workshop) This mod fixes a lot things wrong or that don't make sense with several units in the game, Hattori included. also makes the Tokugawa ninjas better than normal, but not as good as Hattori's, seeing as Hattori was THE ninja clan.

Good luck. Hattori is amazing fun with that mod, since it also gives the fast and safer climbing to all the kissho trained Hattori units. I end up taking castles, never even bothering with taking the gates, since I never train Cav, so anything else just scales the walls, general included unless I just really need to hammer and anvil a large group. Also the ninjas and firebombs are hilariously good at defense :P Set them at the top of a wall, and anything scaling said wall gets an exploding jar to the face, and his friends that are all in the writhing mass of people waiting to climb just go flying.

Unrelated to the video but damn I love this game. My first ever campaign was the best, playing as the Shimazu. I had no idea about Realm Divide and when it happened I was like, what the fuck is happening here? In later games I always figured strategy out with that in mind but the very first campaign was such a surprise, I loved it. Had everyone kicking my ass and eventually succumbed to multiple amphibious assaults all across my lands. It was a lot of fun though and I can see why they tried it because it worked well on such a small campaign map in comparison with the rest of their titles.

I wouldn't delete and upgrade the ninja, use your ninja to sabotage castle towns to your West. This will allow you to manage to defeat the Hatekeyama as well as their ally very quickly, especially if you capture castles without damage. That blitzkrieg will put you in a strong early position rather than a weak opening

Believe it or not I struggle with other clans but had great success with the Hattori. Sure economy is a bummer but a smaller Hattori army can crash a much bigger enemy force with their shock tactics appearing right in front of them before they can fire their bows or simply laid in ambush at the nearest forest.

A quick drop-by before I continue down the playlist! Good work, Donkey, though the sound quality reminds me of Devin in his Eternal Law days ^_^ In sieges, would you ever employ the ninjas or do you have any next level strats for scaling those walls quickly?
@MrSmartDonkeyLP
@MrSmartDonkeyLP 7 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry, but if the sound is similar to Devin's Eternal Law series, that's definitely on your side, the sound sounds perfectly fine to me, same as all my other videos. I've never switched mics and it's a Snowball, the quality is 100% acceptable in my opinion. Ninjas are crap, offensive sieges are crap. My next level strats are: siege out the opponent. The better option 99% of the time.

Wow thanks for letting me know! I went into sound options and some action was checked. Unchecking it made my speakers not "scrat"(in lack of better English ^^) Big thanks! Throwing out them Legendary strats! "Wait for them to starve!", love it ;)
@MrSmartDonkeyLP
@MrSmartDonkeyLP 7 жыл бұрын
Haha, sorry if I came across as harsh, didn't mean it like that. I take pride in my audio quality and thus my ego was scratched :P. It's true though, besieging in an enemy is an easy way to lose hundreds or even thousand of men unnecessarily. If you siege out the opponent either they will just surrender and it doesn't cost you anything (besides maybe a turn of winter attrition) or they'll come out and you will be fighting a defensive field battle, which is the best kind of battle most of the time. The difference in men lost is gigantic, and min-maxing things like that is what's necessary on Legendary, although it's not as important on lower difficulties.
@vJaukbby
@vJaukbby 7 жыл бұрын
No worries, mate! I didn't see it like that - and I appreciate you giving it to me straight! ^^ And I could never think less of you! We fans tend to be like that, right? We all have our triggers, y'know ;) Plus you just solved a requiring problem for me, so cheers! I've just had a few head-to-head campaigns where sneaking few ninja units over the walls to capture and secure the tenshju(?) area would be a really viable strat in order to finish the siege before reinforcements showed up, where as - I guess - the AI wouldn't be that susbetable to surprises. Hattori have ruined me for playing other clans. They allow me to do what I've always wanted to do in total war- commando raids. You're missing out if you never do offensive sieges. The most fun is when they've left a big castle with not quite enough troops to defend it adequately. If you're patient and clever you can set fire to the gates and towers and murder all the defenders while taking negligible losses. Forget the Kisho Ninjas, they're silly Hollywood stereotypes. A bow ashigaru or katana samurai with kisho training makes for a more historically accurate Iga shinobi anyway. I don't think of the Hattori as a regular clan at all- the Hattori family was influential in Iga, but they never ruled it. When you're playing the Hattori, you're really playing the Iga Ikki- a badass confederation of peasants and Jizamurai. One weird thing about the Hattori family is that it skips the most famous Hattori of all, Hattori Hanzo. The clan leader in the game is Hanzo's (historical) father and the clan leader's son is *Hanzo's* son (who actually should have been the clan leader's grandson). Which is just a strange choice on CA's part.

The Kisho Ninja has one advantage which many people forget. They climb walls quickly and have a less chance of falling down. So if you have a few reinforcing you into sieges, you can use them to get unguarded gates open, get those pesky towers as well. Only real problem with it; If they are caught while climbing, and or caught out of place, they tend to be dead quicker than you can blink. I have had at times fun, where I used Kisho ninjas to go behind the enemy lines, as they opponents fought my main part of the army, I got the kisho to the head building, winning the battle that way. But again their advantage is not the best, specially with their unit size, and how quickly they can be dealt with. Still worth using tactically though. Specially if you can sneak them behind the enemies, and throw their bombs into the backs of them. (Much like how you can get Matchlock units around and shoot enemies butts)

I have a question for you...and it's a personal opinion moment. If you could change the Kisho Ninja in any way, aside from the obvious of 'giving them more ammo' (I'm calling that a fix) what would you do to them to make them more competitive?
@brianpembrook9164
@brianpembrook9164 Жыл бұрын
I wouldn't give them more ammo. Due to a short range the bombs often go off right in front of them if the enemy is able to see them. Lost several squads to their own bombs. Their stealth ability gives them such good melee buffs that it is a waste to use it to cover them on a bombing run. 1. Reduce the cooldown of that stealth ability. Except sieges it is rare for me to use it twice. 2. An extra point of armor, 2 extra melee defense. These guys are the 'focus' unit of the faction; you would expect them to be tougher. 3. Let bomb kills count for XP. (More of a 'everyone' fix than Hattori)

Ive played a co-op campaign, me being Hattori, my friend being Oda. Without Oda help i was able to take over most of the western portions of the map, while the Oda took over the entire eastern portions of the map. Hattori are pretty awesome once you get their war machine going, then you can easily wipe out your enemies through some strategic thinking.

'Without Oda help' isn't right though is it. Simply having them not attack you since they're allied to you is a big help. If the Oda declare war on you, you can be in a world of trouble. Either way, I never said it's not possible to play the Hattori campaign without alliances, they just help a lot.

Bandits are awesome. I use them to mow down a huge portion of the enemy before I send in the rest of my infantry units. Less casualties means that you will be ready for the next fight sooner. I initiate battles with a full stack of bandits and have the main army come in as reinforcements. Hattori Bandits are safer to use than Bow Ashigaru. It's best to keep them near forests where they can initiate and disengage with ease.

Oda one of the stronger clans early on? Then why is it every time I play the campaign, they are the second major clan to die?
@MrSmartDonkeyLP
@MrSmartDonkeyLP 7 жыл бұрын
Because you're playing on a lower difficulty and they get double teamed. On Legendary difficulty they almost always become one of the largest clans, you can check my Let's Plays for proof.

I totally disagree that Hattori have a bad starting position. While it is not the best, it is not the worst by far. You can quickly take control of the flatlada around Kyota and than the Chosokobe island (forgot the name). Having Kyoto surrouded will help you take the Shogunate after realm devide. Uesugi and Takeda starting positions are much worse (imo). Again, maybe that is true on Hatd/Legendary. I don't play on them so I cannot judge.
@MrSmartDonkeyLP
@MrSmartDonkeyLP 7 жыл бұрын
I said one of the hardest starting positions, not the hardest. I agree the Takeda and Uesugi starting positions are just as hard or harder. Even with those 2 included, that still puts them in the 3 toughest starting locations, which still falls under 'one of the hardest'. I'm starting to think you're one of those people that just comments to show they disagree with whoever makes the video, for the sake of disagreeing.
@iamcleaver6854

MrSmartDonkeyLP when it comes to starting I think that the oda hojo otomo date and shimazu have the best starting positions (the oda because you usual win the war with saito and imagawa and then you are 3 provinces away from kyoto which aren't that difficult to take ) and the other 4 clans because you need to expand only towards one direction

(◉‿◉) But Donkey sake dens can be upgraded to gambling halls straight away which give you the same 200 to wealth as markets and you get 3 provincial happiness! Its also been proven that upgrading markets is useless so criminal syndicates will give you 350 which is even better. ◔◡◉ [edit: I changed it to lowercase]
@MrSmartDonkeyLP
@MrSmartDonkeyLP 7 жыл бұрын
Lol, where did you find proof that upgrading markets is useless? I don't tend to upgrade them in most towns, but I do for sure in the towns where I put my Metsukes. Upgrading the market twice means they make several hundred koku more every turn. Also, if you all caps I can't take you seriously, you sound like a twelve year old.
@benerdick_cumberbiatch
@benerdick_cumberbiatch 7 жыл бұрын
Here's where I found the evidence forums.totalwar.com/discussion/16872/the-uselesness-of-large-market-buildings-master-equation I was kind of a joking that's why I wrote it in all caps. Putting metsuke in towns makes up for markets providing the same amount of wealth as sake dens and having less than criminal syndicates right?
@MrSmartDonkeyLP
@MrSmartDonkeyLP 7 жыл бұрын
So I can't be bothered to read the entire thread or I'd still be reading tomorrow, but after scamming it, it seems the consensus is exactly how I play the game. You only upgrade the markets in 5 different towns, the ones where I put my Metsukes, but in those towns I also build and upgrade sake dens, because they are my money-making towns. This isn't news, this is how I've played just about every campaign so far. I also have been building sake dens over markets in most towns in recent campaigns because of happiness. Later in the game when I capture towns that have more than 1 building slot I usually build both.

Question: were real ninjas were they associate with the Yakuzaor Japanese mafia?
@RKNGL
@RKNGL 5 жыл бұрын
Well the Yakuza trace a lot of their history back to the Metsuke. So the Yakuza would help commonly help catch Ninja. Though obviously their are exceptions to this.
@FShani
@FShani 4 жыл бұрын
Not to the Yakuza specifically, but ninja did have ties to various criminal elements. Keep in mind what's deemed criminal is based on the social structure of the time, and ninja more or less rejected the social order of samurai-dominated society. Most Yakuza groups began in the interest of protecting towns and villages from abuse or neglect by samurai overlords. Ninja first and foremost owed loyalty to their home villages and clans, and secondly to the samurai lords they worked for. Most of the time there would be a conflict of interest between the ninja and the Yakuza, but at times they could cooperate.

Is the strategy terrible or are you terrible? It’s an early game army, when you come up against mostly other Ashigaru armies. Either way though any decent player can finish the game with just Ashigaru armies, pretty easily in fact with Yari Ashigaru punching well above it’s weight in Yari Wall.
