Total War: Shogun 2 Gameplay Information:
In the darkest age of Japan, endless war leaves a country divided. It is the middle of the 16th Century in Feudal Japan. The country, once ruled by a unified government, is now split into many warring clans. Ten legendary warlords strive for supremacy as conspiracies and conflicts wither the empire. Only one will rise above all to win the heart of a nation as the new shogun...The others will die by his sword.
Take on the role of one Daimyo, the clan leader, and use military engagements, economics and diplomacy to achieve the ultimate goal: re-unite Japan under his supreme command and become the new Shogun - the undisputed ruler of a pacified nation.
-----
Total War: Shogun 2 Features:
Total War: SHOGUN 2 features enhanced full 3D battles via land and sea, which made a name for the series, as well as the tactical campaign map that many refer to as the heart and soul of Total War. Featuring a brand new AI system inspired by the scriptures that influenced Japanese warfare, the millennia old Chinese “Art of War”, the Creative Assembly brings the wisdom of Master Sun Tsu to Total War: SHOGUN 2. Analysing this ancient text enabled the Creative Assembly to implement easy to understand yet deep strategical gameplay.
CONQUER the islands of Japan in the 16th century. Lead vast armies of samurai and fleets of giant warships into breathtaking real-time battles.
BUILD your kingdom on the inviting and turn-based campaign map. Wield economic, political, and military power to amass wealth, armies, and influence.
SCHEME according to the "Art of War" by Sun Tzu. Use fire and siege tactics, spies and assassins to adapt to the ever-changing conditions on the battlefield and throughout your kingdom.
BATTLE ONLINE and experience the main campaign in two-player mode. Then join epic online battles with up to 8 players and lead your online army to glory in special campaigns.

Takeda are my favorite clan. Beautiful red, bow cavalry, and fantastic yari cavalry. You can shock down any ashigaru unit with a hammer and anvil strike from them. They are beast. And just a point of interest, daughters are really good to have in Shogun 2, as marrying them to other clans is the only way I've found to keep allies after realm divide.

A full cav army is just not the best idea in sieges, the whole point of sieges is a long drawn out battle, where infantry grind each other enough to see who runs away first, sure melee cav can handle just fine, but what about shock cav, bow cav will be destroyed by archers.

Love these clan videos Donkey. I wonder if the reason warhorses are so valuable to the AI is if at an earlier stage of development you needed to have them to build samurai cavalry at all, which would explain why they would pay big bucks for them.

Do Hojo Clan overview. Although using their specialized siege units such as Hojo Rockets or Hand Mortars aren't used much in campaign what makes up for that is the fact that they're master castle builders that will build better strongholds for a reduced price and shorter building time if I recall. Also it would be pretty cool if in the future you do these type of Shogun 2 Clan Overview videos with the Rise of the Samurai DLC clans and Fall of the Samurai DLC clans.

I think it's normal for lower clans to have superiority in lower difficulties, as they seemingly are more vanilla than everyone else (as in, they might have no downsides to their playstyle, as opposed to something like Hattori; where they have higher unit upkeep and the AI doesn't seem to use the Kisho training very well, thusly nullifying and making it harder on the AI). I'd say its clans like Oda or Takeda that have just plus stats on its units (as in, their early game trash units are stronger than everyone else's) that manage to make it through, but it also has the 'random factor' thrown in where generals can, in _general_ screw up and lose fights.

How would you recommend using Takeda during siege attacks and defenses if you are mostly cavalry?
@MrSmartDonkeyLP
@MrSmartDonkeyLP 2 жыл бұрын
I’d recommend not doing Siege attacks, (I always recommend that though, no matter what your army contains) just siege the enemy out so you get a defensive field battle instead. As for Siege defences, I’d either recommend placing your army in front of your town on the campaign map, so the enemy has to go through your army to get to the town, or if that’s not possible, just take most of your army out of the town in the battle. You can watch my cav only campaign for inspiration too: kzbin.info/www/bejne/d4CViaqvm71kndk

@datuputi777
@datuputi777 6 жыл бұрын
Takeda Katana cavalry has so much use but there is 1 that stands out the most its that when you use 1 you can destroy a smaller detachment of enemy before the rest of their reinforcement arrives without running you're infantry too tired to fight the larger army - you can use them to skirmish EXTREMELY LARGE stacks of armies and slowly cut them down to nothing! but what i mean of skirmish is attacking with the purpose of only doing some damage and actually running away :3 not very hunurable. To me its a win if I only lose 1 whole unit but was able to destroy or heavily damage 4-5 of the enemies units but for those to happen is a rare thing! most the time I can actually pick off the enemies cavalry of course and their archers and 1 or 2 melee infantry if I'm lucky and lose no unit at all but if push comes to shove I'd actually leave a katana cav to hold a mini line while his bud makes a run for it. Another thing is that you can out maneuver the ai who is very confident of victory when he sees cav and he has spear units, you do this by simply letting them chase you so that they climb down the hill then you just simply strode up the hill dismount and charge their pesky spears and with that the tides should change so drastically that a measly 3 katana cavalry can route 5 stacks of spear ashigaru(whose chasing so they arent on wall formations too) with minimal losses. Well to be frank this strategies can be used with spear cavalries as well, its just spear is not very effective against spear. ;) I wish mr smart donkey finally acknowledges that every tool has its use and katana cav is beautiful too!

MrSmartDonkey, there's one thing that I'm unable to find conclusive answer about, and I hope that you can provide some opinions on about Takeda. Specifically, campaign upgrades, between building them in Horse Province (+Charge Bonus) and Blacksmith (+Attack or +Armor). Which one is better in your opinion and why?
@MrSmartDonkeyLP
@MrSmartDonkeyLP 6 жыл бұрын
I always go for charge bonus. If you use Yari Cavalry with fully upgraded charge bonus they will basically shatter anything they charge in the rear. Extra armour doesn't help much if you use them well, and higher melee attack is better for Katana Cavalry, but they're not worth recruiting.
@machaiping
@machaiping 6 жыл бұрын
And another thing I'm wondering about in this video is that you still getting Yari Cavalry in the army composition despite you get Fire Cavalry which is - for all intent and purpose - Yari Cavalry on steroid. Is there any special reason that make them worth getting despite the Fire Cavalry?
@MrSmartDonkeyLP
@MrSmartDonkeyLP 6 жыл бұрын
It's been a while since I made this video, but I seem to recall the reason was simply because custom battles wouldn't let you have more than 3 Fire Cavalry in an army. So I just decided to put in 2 and fill the rest with Yari Cavalry because it looks better than odd numbers.
@machaiping
@machaiping 6 жыл бұрын
So in the campaign proper it'd be better to ditch all Yari Cavalry and replace them with Fire Cavalry if you have enough fund to support them right? Because in campaign you can get as many as you want.

Just as the Uesugi are programmed to dislike the Takeda for historical accuracy, I think it is possible that the Hōjō are programmed to like the Takeda for the same reason. In 1554 Takeda Shingen, Imagawa Yoshimoto, and Hōjō Ujiyasu met at Zentoku-ji in Suruga and concluded a three-way alliance. The three of them had fought against each other on numerous occasions before. At the time of the alliance, Takeda was already allied with the Imagawa through marriage. The three realized that, at least for the time being, it was in each of their best interests to have peace. Imagawa was planning to head West, Hōjō was trying to expand his control over the Kantō, and Takeda was expanding North into Shinano. The Takeda and Hōjō married, and the Imagawa and Hōjō married; thus making all 3 of them allied and related to each other through marriage. This could explain why they start out as trading partners, and are so quick to ask for an alliance.

Takeda Shingen and Uesugi Kenshin were famous rivals, but apparently they also had a huge amount of respect for each other. Neither was ever able to best the other. They sent each other letters, exchanged gifts and at one point Uesugi Kenshin helped stabilise Kai province by providing them salt after a shortage caused by Hojo. I don't put much stock in the supposed honour of knights or samurai, but what an epic rivalry. Watch Kagemusha if you haven't already!
@SengokuStudies

It is hard to differentiate between historical realities and stories. Many historians consider the story of the salt to be just that, a story. It was probably actually merchants just selling salt to a needy client rather than some kind of official relief effort by Kenshin. However, it certainly was a famous rivalry. Which is somewhat odd since they really only engaged in one serious battle, the famous Battle of Hachimanbara better known as the 4th Battle of Kawanakajima in 1561. They fought many small battles and skirmishes. It also was not that unusual for even hostile daimyō to write to each other and send gifts. After the defeat of the Imagawa at Okehazama in 1560, Takeda Shingen sent Oda Nobunaga a letter and gifts in congratulations for his victory. Another interesting rivalry against the Takeda was Murakami Yoshikiyo in Shinano. It is not as well known as the famous one against the Uesugi. Interestingly, after Shingen's death, his son Katsuyori made an alliance with the Uesugi and married his sister to Uesugi Kagekatsu, the adopted son of Kenshin. Unfortunately, Kagekatsu was involved in a succession dispute with his brother Uesugi Kagetora, also adopted by Kenshin. Kagetora was the son of Hōjō Ujiyasu. The Hōjō used this as a cause to wage war against the Takeda. Thus Katsuyori found himself fighting on multiple fronts. He was facing the Oda/Tokugawa alliance, he was supporting Kagekatsu, and he was also fighting against the Hōjō.

Yeah, I guess we'll probably never know when it comes to stories like that. They are fun to think about though, legend or not. How friendly many of them apparently were while at war makes them seem even less honourable to me if anything. Knowing what humans are like, it makes me assume that rather than being honourable it had more to do with them being so far removed from the peasant classes that they could afford the luxury of emotional detachment from the thousands of bodies they sent at each other. A pretty disgusting time in human history, but it does make for a fantastic Total War!

I don't really need to do math on that. It's not just me who says that, it's universally known. Selling trade agreements get good once you have Horses to sell. They're what get you the 10-20k+ bonus from selling trade agreements.

@MrSmartDonkeyLP
@MrSmartDonkeyLP 7 жыл бұрын
I have not. My opinion on them is quite simple. If you're going for defensive armies with lots of archers, go armour, so you can tank arrows while your archers deal damage. If you're going for offensive with few archers, go for melee attack because your aim is to get into combat as fast as possible and deal damage quickly.

I always thought Takeda's faction bonuses were a little OP. You'd have things like Shimazu Swords, Chosokabe Archers.... Takeda had like 3 or 4 superior units because it applied to all the cavalry,, and then in DLC it got the Fire Cavalry too
@machaiping
@machaiping 6 жыл бұрын
Takeda is actually weaker when you take the fact that the basic melee infantry that everyone in this game got has +25 attack against cavalry by default into consideration.

There a few clans across all versions of Shogun, where it's a much better strategy to NOT take the province you start at war with. This is especially true with the Takeda and North Shinano. If you take it, you suddenly have too many borders and thus too many neighbours covetously viewing your territory. And as soon as you're busy fighting off the Uesugi and others, the Hojo will try to take advantage, no matter how 'friendly' they are.
@MrSmartDonkeyLP
@MrSmartDonkeyLP 6 жыл бұрын
Is that not one of the strategies I suggested?
@MrHarumakiSensei
@MrHarumakiSensei 6 жыл бұрын
Yes, yes you did. And this is my vote for that particular strategy. But more I was trying to comment on how there are a few starts where you're much better off not taking the 'recommended' first province. Off the top of my head, Aizu's first enemy in FotS comes to mind, and maybe Nagaoka's too. However, Takeda stands out as a clan where I always do much better by following the don't-take-over-first-enemy-province strategy. So that's kinda what I meant, not that you were giving bad info or anything. :) Does anyone have any other thoughts on good examples of starts where you should leave your first enemy alone for a while?
@muatring
@muatring 6 жыл бұрын
What happens with Takeda is, you take north shinano, all neighbors declare war on you and you lose 10+ turns just defending that damn castle from full stacks armies coming from all sides, and you can't expand in any direction because doing so would leave your castles defenseless against enemy attacks..
