Merry Christmas and the happiest of New Year’s to you all. I absolutely adore this channel and wanted to ask if there was any way possible that we could get an hour and a half or two hour video? I hate it when I’m done watching one and wishing it could’ve been longer. If you can, that would be awesome thank you so much for all your hard work and bringing us along
@EISAlaska18 күн бұрын
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. We will see what we can come up with, but afraid we would run out of footage or only be able to get a video out once a week or every 10 days or so. A lot of work goes into editing so it would really slow down our releases. Perhaps we will do more of a raw video for the next one, a full set of pulling halibut gear. We sure appeciate your support and ideas.
@kittygreenleaf42718 күн бұрын
@ thank you so much. Even a raw video would be absolutely brilliant. Whatever you can do would definitely be appreciated.

Just a thought but wouldn't it be easier to have a permanent ruler on the deck. Great video btw, so many huge skate.
@EISAlaska18 күн бұрын
For sure! We'll likely attach it somewhere in the future. Although we found out later its kind of nice to measure from either side of the reel, so maybe a modular ruler isn't too bad.
@Scottb9276818 күн бұрын
I really do enjoy all of y'all's videos thank you very much.i am just wondering why you don't throw the old bait out for the birds,or does it cause a issue and make them keep coming back and make a issue as in them all over you while you are trying to haul? Just a question I don't think anyone else has asked.but I do throw out my bait after I am done witch it's just a lake but never thought it would hurt anything or does it .I may have been doing something wrong all of these 50 years by throwing out old bait.lol but anyways just wondering but thank you again for the great video and wish y'all nothing but the best
@EISAlaska18 күн бұрын
It’s a good question, Scott! Theres no reason we don’t, sometimes when we’re bored we’ll toss it out to them to see their antics. In this case I suppose we were just focusing on work. The seagulls act skittish at times also so we’d have to chuck it out a ways. Have a Merry Christmas!
@Scottb9276818 күн бұрын
@EISAlaska Merry Christmas to you and your family.i do know that seagulls do get annoying cuz when I go to Tampa Florida that always are just so annoying lol they will come down and take a sandwich right out of your hand even if you are eating it lol.but thanks for answering back

Just curious what the skates go for per pound compared to halibut. And do they have a season? Seems like they are plentiful
@EISAlaska17 күн бұрын
They are bycatch only, in this case 5% weight of target species, not worth dealing with. Last one we delivered year ago, they were $0.25/lb.
@scottdilley35618 күн бұрын
Lol look at my remarks are before you told us thanks again

Question, what is wrong with skate? Also can you show us in close view, how you use that hooky thing to get fishhooks out of the fish. Merry Christmas and thanks.
@EISAlaska18 күн бұрын
Yep, we’ll show that close up next season! Didn’t get a chance this time I don’t think.
@ColinLennard14 күн бұрын
A Question: Why do you store the halibut upside down (white side up)? Thanks see you next time.
@EISAlaska11 күн бұрын
Good question Colin, it’s so that any remaining blood doesn’t pool up on the white side and give it an off color and also something we do out of habit.
@ColinLennard11 күн бұрын
@@EISAlaska Thanks for that bit of information. Turning the fish is that standard for all halibut fishing or is that just something that you have learnt & just do it like you say?

Is it worth it to lease quota when the a good haul of Halibut is ca. 500 lb and average hauls are 200 lb. or less? Is the lease for a set rate or a proportion of the catch total?
@EISAlaska17 күн бұрын
It's probably worth it for us since its our boat and just our family as crew. With a more expensive operation, probably get pretty skinny.

@zerog504118 күн бұрын
Hi guys, over the years I've been watching you I've often wondered why you don't occasionally swap from Halibut to Skate for your main catch, seems that Skate are more abundant on your grounds? Also Len should have a Depth Finder repeater screen up by the controls where you land the fish - save going in and out?
@EISAlaska18 күн бұрын
Currently there is no directed fishery for skate. The bycatch rate for skates used to be 20% but was reduced to 5% a few years back due to overharvest concerns. I would say the resource is doing well! At some point I will mount a monitor outside. Then I can see our position and depth, also make marks when we hit good fishing.
@paulmerchant337918 күн бұрын
Why don't you use a swivel to stop the twisting?
