C&D has a wide variety of blends available, and you can get samples for a very reasonable price. HB may not be for you, but there's plenty to choose from.

I got a message similar to this a few days ago, and I was able to understand the relationship my next smoke. I suppose if I had to try and describe a place or thing, HB reminds me of sitting in a late 1800's parlor (living room). Similar thought to old books.

Well Alex, after taking a break from Haunted Bookshop, I now fully understand why folks say it's too strong. I've been adding an equal amount of Pirate Kake to it for a very pleasant English smoke. Being burley based, you have many options for add-ins.

Man you've got me on this stuff and I'm hooked I think. It starts out a bit harsh, and then mellows out into a nice solid Burley with a nice sweet undertone. I gotta tell ya, for the past week since I've been smoking this stuff I've pretty much stopped smoking cigarettes. Just don't crave them with this nicotine bomb. haha. Take care

Yes, Grey Havens is excellent. I think you'll find Haunted Bookshop a tad stronger (some would say harsher).

I haven't had much experience with the burley. I have had a couple of bowls of Carter Hall and they left me feeling like I'd smoked a cigar and had a couple drinks too many the next morning. I haven't really been brave enough to experiment with other burleys! Great review! Hope you're well Mike

I tried this based on your various videos and comments on Haunted Bookshop. first time I tried it I wasn't impressed.picked it up again and tried it In a cob and liked it.. now it's my favorite. I was more into Vapers. but now I'm doing HB most of the time. I can't smoke it fast but slower cadence then I see you doing. how does it do with ageing? now I like it in my Savenill Roma 673. I wish it was a little lower in the N category. good VA and Perique burley blend. I love it!

That Sav is the first pipe I bought and it is my favorite! That exact pipe. Didnt know you had one! I used to keep carter hall and half & half mix on hand for quick smokes. I could use the same pipe bc its not a moist baccy. Just kinda had a nutty flavor.

HB is a winner got some in bulk. Surprised to see it was a mix of ribbon and broken flake, with some nice slabs of flake mixed in. Reminds me of the pork chunk in those cans of pork & beans haha. Very dry but adding a little moisture really brought out the flavor BTW don't climb any ladders while smoking it... Thanks

C&D's Burley Flake's, particularly #2 and #3, are incredible burley-based blends as well. The vitamin N hit is substantial with those as well. I have yet to find them in bulk or 8oz, but well worth the try. Also, Uhle has some great burleys, with much less nicotine. Try "00" and "300". I'm a Burley-phile all the way. Under-appreciated leaf in my opinion.

Greetings! It's time for the rookie lurker question of the day. I have not yet given up on this blend. It is kinda developing into a love/hate relationship. It seems like I keep having back to back awful experiences. But, the third or fourth time something magical happens. Starting to think it just doesn't like all of my pipes. I have 16 ounces of the stuff so one way or another! Lol So the rookie question. This blend has chunks of what appears to be broken flakes mixed into it. Should I be rubbing them out or just stuffing them in the bowl? Thank you for all the help. Have a great weekend!

Churchwardens smoke great and give you a feeling of elegance as well. When you smoke HB, have a sugary drink available and some food in your gut. If you get the hiccups or feel a lump in your throat, take a break. I still get into trouble now & then, but overall, I love the stuff.

Very pleasant video. Went by too fast, I like all those blends, but have not tried River Boat Gambler, Old Joe and coffee, can't beat it. I am wondering what would have a touch less perique, and be a little sweeter and on the nutty side. I do enjoy white burley on it's own, and as I write this, I am getting a blending idea. It's like growing up in an Italian home and knowing how to cook. You understand proportions.

Great vid. I have found that HB kinda has a bad rap like Billy Bud. I do think its one of those things like onions where one aquires a more complex taste as they discover the more complex tastes. I've been waiting on trying Haunted Bookshop for years and finally ordered some, your review is spot on I actually didn't think I would like it upon lighting it up, it was very plain at first but it wasn't till it got going I enjoyed it more and noticed the natural Nutty and a little Honey sweet taste. Great stuff. I love Epiphany which I think the addition of Latakia is the only difference between HB. I Hope to watch you review Epiphany one day. Thanks

Thanks Mark! Deer tongue has a vanilla smell to it. The taste is quite unique and to me tastes like talcum powder smells LOL. It's a soft almost floral taste. I was hooked on it for six months, but like anything else, I got tired of it. Yeah, Haunted Bookshop is really a basic, no frills, smoke which has worked well for me for many years.

And really nails it in my view.So, Caller will go into my next tobacco order. Haven't smelled like talcum powder in a while. Your taste in tobacco reminds me of mine so much. I smoke a pipe a lot during a days time as well. The sad thing is folks like me just can’t afford to smoke the more expensive, or better English blends that are sold in tins all day long. I would really like to experiment with some of the online bulk tobaccos that are available. But I don’t know where or how to get started doing this. Have you tried to blend any burley, perique, latakia, virginia, etc. at home? And if so, could you possibly give me some tips on doing this. I just really love a good bowl full of rich tobacco flavor. Don’t you? Thanks, Greg

Hi Greg, blending is a blast! You can buy all the components from nearly any online dealer (4Noggins, Smokingpipes,etc.)You can create pretty much anything you want with about eight different components. I stayed pretty much with burley/VA mixes. Somewhere here on YT you'll find the info. you're looking for. Have fun!
