This is due to several things beginning with the dollar being taken off of the gold standard. That mixed with a large amount of money being printed since then, mixed with banks being able to pull more out of thin air every time they issue a new loan, mixed with the creation of digital payment options. There are probably other factors too, but I'm not an expert on it so I'm not entirely sure.

Btw man of medan was slightly based on a true story. The beggining part was a pretty good representation of what actually happend on the ship. Btw its called the ourang medan. Search it up
