Well to be fair rose anvils standards are very very high and I hope most companies appreciate that. For example I still love my doc martens but I now understand why they typically only last a year with continuous wear and can’t be fixed really. They are more of a sneaker than a work boot with a price that are consistent with that (especially on sale), at least until recently. The channel has made me understand why I should spend $400+ on a boot. Aside from the fact that finding an actual cobbler is becoming near impossible.

Its kind of a controversial topic....obviously you cant just sue someone cause they voiced an opinion you dont like, as daltonburgener9503 said, but the problem is that opinions are now media. Most business models are basically based on ''tricking people'' in one way or another, even if in its very basic form you're selling for more than the cost, in order to make money. So most business models wont work anymore if people can no-longer be ''tricked'' so to speak... You have to position a product in the market: is it luxury? mid-range? or affordable? are you competing purely on price? etc. All mid-range products have something wrong with them, otherwise they wouldnt be mid-range to begin with....but you get what you pay for. This is why channels like these are problematic for brands.

A cease and desist directed at Weston/Rose Anvil would basically just be an empty attempt at intimidation. Like he mentioned, he isn't creating a product, so there is no infringement. They would have to be claiming defamation, to which (in the US at least) the truth is an absolute defense. Considering his channel literally just consists of showing people the insides of shoes and discussing the quality of the materials/construction, it would be hard for them to claim any sort of defamatory action. This is reinforced by the fact that this channel is large enough and informative enough that it might even trigger 1st Amendment free press protections since a reasonable argument could be made that his content amounts to investigative journalism.

Yup. IMO, so far, i think they haven't sent one because even the dumbest corpo has been told "yo, if you do this, and he speaks, you'll see brand hate". They're afraid of us, they're afraid of him. I love it.

But if you have positioned your product in the market place to be in the mid-range or low-range category, then you cant ''make better products'' other wise they would not be in the mid or low range. The business model would no longer make sense. You could be in the premium category, then making a ''better product'' works.

You guys should do a motorcycle boot month! I know you ride, and I just bought a bike and have recently realized like 95% of the fashion-forward motorcycle boots (and shoes) are really just trash quality workboots with cheap ankle protectors and a giant piece of plastic in the midsole - would be interesting to see you cut apart some of these and see what is actually a good boot and what is just being made to barely pass minimum CE ratings and then sold for 200 bucks!

A brand would be stupid to take you to court when you SHOW the corners they cut vs the claims they make. I can't imagine it going well for them. But they are big business, and if you have enough money, the law bends beneath your feet.

It’s interesting because the burden of proof is different for me not in the US. Here people need to show proof that things exist. Also, that’s valid. Brands can’t be upset when they make this stuff. Hey I have wanted shoes based on brands that have also gotten bad reviews. There almost or no bias

@simoncaton1226 yeah well in this country, they put a man in jail for life over a hot $80 check. All because he didn't expect a 5 year plee bargain. . . Over an $80 effen check. Yeah, nothing surprises me here. Nonetheless, I even dispute the idea that his reviews could be considered defamatory. For example, in his top 5 minimalist tactical boots video, he wasn't exactly gushing about the Bellville mini mils, and those are the ones I bought. In black ofcorse lol. But no, seriously, because I could see every detail of em in his review so I knew that they were what I was looking for even if he wasn't so jazzed about them. When it comes to highlighting Nike's c tear leather, hey man, that's just a fact. He's what you'd call a professional. Whatever, I just hate the idea that anyone can sue anyone for practically any reason.

The reason that companies sue, even whenever they know they're in the wrong, is because they're trying to financially shut you down. They know that even when you're right, the cost of defending yourself is extremely expensive, especially around anything involving defamation. It's basically a way of shutting you up by forcing you to spend a bunch of money to defend yourself, because there's no punishment for filing a false lawsuit against somebody like there is for filing false charges. There should be, but there's not.

in the grand scheme of things, i firmly believe that in the years to come, very few people will have had an influence on the entire shoe industry as you have and will. What you are doing is Gods work. Glorifying good and condemning bad. It exposes lies a decite while praising those that go the extra mile for quality but would otherwise go unnoticed. Your channel is pure gold for the consumer who would otherwise be left in the dark and subject to advertising tactics. Honestly, you should have an award for those creating quality footwear, like the Oscars or Grammys. To some this may sound silly but i dare anyone who has watched your videos say it has not had a profound effect on how they choose what to buy. I for one, will NEVER buy another pair of shoes unless its inspected on your channel. Keep doing what your doing!

10:18 Pencil/pen holder. That'd be a nice addition. Small, nice, pocket friendly. Back in the day, i used to buy a leather fountain pen holder from an older gent, he unfortunately passed on to the big tannery in the sky and so the product's defunct. But the nice feature about it was that he would laminate plastic (back then a newfangled thing) on the inside of the holder, so that the ink (should it leak) remained contained inside. No clue how he did it, but they worked.

Cost vs value, I think the easiest way to show this is with is; Thursday Boots Captains and Allen Edmonds Landon Cap or Dalton… Having multiple pairs of both…basically you can buy 3:1 and though the AE are a beautiful boot, amazing material, fit and quality made…am not 100% convinced it’s $400 worth of upgrades, because at the end of the day, they will wear out just as quickly if worn hr for hr.. My Thursdays, I put 6000+ hrs on them (inside/outside) before having them resoled… which was $200…I can get a new pair of Thursdays for $250-$260cnd

Was it The Office that changed millennials' way of speaking with the obsessive and self-conscious pausing. Or the precise hesitation during a sentence. This guy makes an art of it. In past decades no one really talked like this. At least not consistently. I guess it's what passes for "comic timing" now. It could be called "diplomatic timing". That hesitation right before thin-ice words. Common example: "I wouldn't exactly call myself...a LiberALLLLL?" "I wouldn't exactly call myself...conserVATIVVVV?" Often with the obligatory bashful uptalk. The pause shows that one is thoughtful. Self-aware. Not evil Right wing. And surely not horror of horrors, TONE DEAF. Oh for the days of Robert Mitchum. Even Jack Tripper. Hell I'll take Bob Kostas at this point.
