A toerag or Toe Rag is a length of rope which dangled in the water at the head of the ship, which is where the toilet is (or a hole which overhanged the water) hence the toilet being called The Head in the Royal Navy. (Word Detective)

As usual on nautical word explanations, it's probably wrong. "Said to be from Tuareg, a nomadic North African tribesman, but may share same etymology as the UK definition: from the cloths worn around the foot." From Frederick Thomas Elworthy, =The West Somerset Word-book: A Glossary of Dialectal and Archaic Words and Phrase=, English Dialect Society, 1886.

Hislop's comment about the free press being free, but not pretty, is rather delightful.

Yeah, especially the part where he ignored the racism and went for the private jet ride instead. I'm sure they are suing them for the private jet criticism.

Agreed. An outstanding moment! It's hard to watch when it needs to be 'explained' that freedom of the press is an important cornerstone of a democracy.
@itsokay79894 жыл бұрын
@@peterporkeresq.2817 That's because he explained the press in general, and didn't just focus on that part in particular. Which obviously needed explaining because Sara thought it's unfair in general. That's what he meant by "not pretty"

@@itsokay7989 So Hislop wasn't siding with the British press on the way they've treated the former royals? Is that your conclusion from the video?

Wow. Ian did not get the point of Prince Harry's statement at all, did he? Sara Pascoe got it completely and fair play to her for trying to get it across. It's not about fair/free criticism...go nuts on that, Ian. That's fine. It's about the vehement and personal attacks on his wife, which smack of racism. They are two different things and if you don't get the difference, Ian, that's a tad worrying.
