Walk through this lesson with me and have more fun soloing on guitar! Using these 4 note box shapes will give you confidence when soloing on guitar. This will be a fun lesson. Simple improvising over the C minor extended pentatonic scale. This is an intermediate solo guitar lesson but a beginner will gain some knowledge with this lesson. Here is a link for this great backing track. • Funky Blues In C | Bac... . Keep rockin, everyone. 😎

Rusty, I'm an older "longtime beginner" that has been struggling mightily with improvising (among other things as well). Love your teaching style and the way you keep stressing to identify the root/tonic notes in the scale you're playing and base your licks on that. I think that it's SLOWLY (but surely) starting to make sense to me and also it's forcing me to identify notes on the fretboard instead of just shapes/patterns. Keep doing what you're doing brother, it's exactly what I need! Happy Easter to you and your family! 🙂

Hey Rusty, I love the way this four-note box system easily ties the fretboard together. It is creating a light bulb moment in my head. I just recently found your channel and am glad I did, your content is very helpful. A few years back when I retired, I vowed to play every day to finally improve my playing, which meant keeping a guitar around me at all times. And then Life happens while you are trying to practice and you need to safely set it down momentarily. A stand was not always around, so I tried to purchase one that stayed with the guitar and none where available. Thats why I created "Guitar Leg" and would love to give you one to try for yourself... No cost, I just need to know how to get it to you. If you like it, maybe you can help me get the word out about it. Thanks again for great lessons, Robert

thanks again Uncle Rusty! love your channel. the modified pentatonic scales - theres a couple other youtubers (especially in country guitar) touch lightly on this subject. its a fun subject, it approaches concepts of modal mixture, or as adam neely calls it "spicy" and i think allows musicians to explore and gain uniqueness in either soloing or adding melody. please just keep going on this path that youre on. i watch your videos with bass in hand. cheers!

Greetings from Chicago! I should’ve explain that better, but I am referring to the root note of the pentatonic scale. It’s homebase. If you know where the root note is in any scale you’re playing, you will have a lot more confidence. But knowing the root notes of each chord is a really powerful tool. Thanks Phil for your comment! Hey Wolfgang, the PRS is a nice guitar. But it won’t quite sound like a Stratocaster. But still a nice guitar! I hope you find a way to enjoy it. Thanks so much for checking out my lessons. I don’t have a course ready yet But coming soon. Thanks again and have a great weekend.👍

Great lesson as usual Rusty, can we theoretically bend any note that is a full step down from any tone in the scale or should we stick to certain notes, i.e the flat 7 or the 4? 🙈
@rustysguitar1
@rustysguitar1 Жыл бұрын
Hey James, yes, because you are bending it to the original note. But some will sound better than others. This is a great question. I need to talk more about bending in some of my lessons! Thanks for checking in James, talk to you soon buddy.🤛

Hey Rusty I just started playing the guitar not long ago so I’m trying to learn new things. I started doing this scale after watching another one of your videos but it was a more simple version. It sounded really cool! Any advice for a 24yo who wants to play professionally at some point?
@rustysguitar1
@rustysguitar1 Жыл бұрын
Well, glad you found the channel! The best advice I could give you learn and memorize the fretboard. And you don’t have to do it all at once. The next big thing as you’re learning chords, make sure you know what scales work with those chords or chord progression. It’s so important to have that connection! People will want to hear you play if you really say something. You don’t have to get deep into theory, but definitely have some theory under your belt. The more tools you have the better player he will be! And don’t forget to have fun along the way! Ha ha! I have a rocking week with that guitar.🎸🤛

Hi Rusty would you happen to have any insights or leanings when it comes to holding the pick? I'll be going along for awhile seemingly doing pretty decent but then I'll tweak over to something a little bit different which seems to be better like more control but then it doesn't seem to hold up and next thing I know I'm on to trying something else. Any info you could give me would be most appreciated whenever you get a free minute and thank you very much for your time 🙏🏼
@rustysguitar1
@rustysguitar1 Жыл бұрын
Hey Thunderberg, I hold it with a light touch. And I don’t slant the pick. But for faster picking, many players slant the pick slightly upward. Honestly it needs to be comfortable for you! There is some videos on KZbin about picking. Thanks buddy and enjoy your week 👍

I don’t have anything like that but I’m sure you can get it online. But but all the major and minor extended pentatonic scales can be built off of the root note on the low E string. But yes, it is a very useful scale. I use it almost every time I pick up the guitar! Thanks for taking the time to watch my videos Joe! Later buddy.👍

Hey Joseph, the better that you know the fretboard, the more confident you have playing most anything on the guitar. It helps you better Locate chords and scales. Not an easy task in the expectation later today, but worth the time. Just do it little by little! Thanks for checking out the video and keep rockin bro 😎
