START TO LEARN this concept, to improve your guitar solos TODAY! Looking at the structure of the G minor pentatonic scale, and then start to add chord tones to the pentatonic scale. This is an intermediate solo guitar lesson. But a beginner will still take away ideas from the lesson. These examples are in the blues rock style. I will breakdown how to use chord tones in your guitar solo's. Using the third of each chord is a good way to start improvising with chord tones! This is an exciting way to move forward on your improvisation journey! Here is a link for the backing track that I used in the intro. • Seductive Blues Soul i... Happy jamming with this one! Remember were Not getting any YOUNGER! HaHa!

I love your approach. I have been playing for over 40 years as a closet picker. I can finger pick pretty well and am working to master the cage. Now I add the boxs you showed me to the cage, add the double stops, and bends and it has opened a whole new can of warms to master. Thank you so much. You are a great teacher!!!

Great tips. I’m 71 been playing over 50 yrs. I’ve hit those notes , but you have a way of refining them . I don’t read music so my playing has been through time and experience. I made up most of my country licks . Then Clapton and allman bros helped, I naturally use the up and down pick stroke. Great ideas there Rusty. Very helpful. Subscribed.

When I see your graphic of the pentatonic positions pop up I immediately think to myself “That’s where it all really started to happen for me!” I think you do a super job of concisely expressing in words what are the essential concepts and ways of seeing/thinking about guitar that open the door.

For most players, I think the pentatonic is where it all starts! Many of our guitar heroes based their solos on the minor pentatonic! If it’s good enough for them, it’s good enough for us! And we are really drawn to that sound! I really appreciate your comment and all your support! Thanks a lot BTBB👍

Even though that chord progression's not anything I've seen in my Guitar for Dummies books, it sounds terrific. I've noticed that it seems like "real" rock-n-roll doesn't stick too closely to that whole I-I-I-I-IV-IV-I-I-V-IV-I-I thing about half the time. Thanks for giving us the backing track, because it also has that neat floyd-sounding D-D#dim that looks like it might be fun!

Another awesome lesson Rusty! They keep getting better and better with each one! I'll be curious to know what strings you are using. They sound great and seem to bend pretty easily. I use Elixir 12-53 on my acoustics and Elixir 10-46 on my electrics. I started using the 10-46 on my acoustics but my '51 vintage fingers seem to think I should give up guitar after 57 years and play the obo or something like that. I just can't quit. I feel naked without a guitar in my lap.

So, Rusty, you are thinking of this progression in the key of G, so you are playing the 1, 4 and flat 7 of G. Is that because G is the first chord in the progression? Because those three chords could also be the 1,4, 5 of C. So, would you then think of it as being in C if you started on the C chord, went to F then G? But here you think of it as being in G and more specifically G minor because then F is the flat 7, and C is the 4.
@rustysguitar1
@rustysguitar1 4 ай бұрын
Yes, I’m thinking the key of G because the progression starts in G and ends in G. So all of the melody that you choose to play is drawn back to that G chord. So, technically these three chords are in the key of C. And G Mixolydian (the C major scale, starting and ending on the G note). But for me I almost always use the corresponding Pentatonic scale of the first chord. And then add triads(chord tones) to that pentatonic structure. Thanks a lot for checking out the video! Catch you later.👍

This is some of the best teaching there is on You Tube. Thank you Rusty. Question. I have my Bridge Down as fur as it will go on this LP copy by Sawtooth the style with a bridge and stop tail Piece my Low E Is near 2 crecht cards thickness off the fret board. Do I Need to Adjust the Truss Rod? I Dont think the bridge Sudete adjust up ar down only forward and back for intonation. The Nut appears to be as low as its going to. I, dure not file it down. Im High getting new the 12th but these Thumb Wheels are buried and still highe than Id like. Im used Ibanez and Chanul Jackson and only ever owner Floyd Rose ar Khuler guitars . If I Adjust the Truss I need the neck to bend back. Do I Turn the Rod to my left or my right? The adjuster is in the Head Stock. I don't want to mess this up ar break String I don't have money for more . I'm also running tens. normally I use Nines (would that help or am I looking at this wrong its a lot of tension Now it seems) its a great guitar I picked up for $179 on Go DP Musics Store Wide 50% off memorial Day Sale. Pretty Sure it last All month every year. they have a Seafoam Relica Strut I want to get next Sale but its reg over 8700 So... $350 during the Subs Any tips greatly appreciated Thanks Rusty

Thanks for checking out the video! Sounds like you definitely need a neck adjustment. Going from 9s to 10s does put tension on the neck. Honestly, I’m not very knowledged in that area. I have someone else set my guitars up. If you make adjustments, just be very careful and do it slow! Thanks for all your support.👍

Hi Rusty, another great practical lesson which uses a really familiar rock / blues chord progression ..."I know that Iheard that before?". Are you able to suggest artist tracks that have this chord progression (in any key) so that I can apply the licks in this lesson to practice them over known hits? Once I learn the licks I know that I will be able to improve my skills as I imrpovise over some hits out there

This track is kind of unique. But the link for that track is in the description. I really just search Blues rock backing tracks on KZbin. And kind a listen until I hear one that I like. Happy jamming Fred. Enjoy your weekend 👍
