Have they FIXED all of the bugs? - ISDT ESC70 Review no.2

Let's test out the New ESC70 from ISDT. There are very mixed opinions out there on this ESC and I've experienced some issues with mine, but have they fixed it now?
We'll also look at how I've set mine up now and am getting great results on the Gatekeeper build.

Glad to see they've got things sorted looks an interesting product and good value for money. Now this might be a strange question is it a small enough unit to possibly use in a 1/24th truck . Once again you come across well talking to the viewer not down to them as a lot of others do . That's some going cracking a 1000 subscribers 👏👏👏

Thanks Geoff, it's almost identical in size to the 1080, you could fit it to something like the SCX24, but it would be pretty tight. I'd say there's better micro ESCs out there if that's what you're looking for. Thanks for your support as always! 🤙

Good to hear, the odd thing for me though is that I have two different escs on two very different firmware release numbers. I suspect that there was a change in a component in different batches and that may have been causing the issues. So different firmware for each batch. Who knows!? Not sure I'm overly bothered so long as they carry on working. 🤙

I'm working on building a Enduro builder, and the price and possibilities of that esc are quite interesting. Worth to give a try now, as it looks the original issues are now gone. Thanks for the detailed video, very well done!

I always get the "mid waiting" error, even after calibration and setting different dead zones. Receiver is a cheap Flysky GT3C (never had any issues with those with Hobbywing and Tamiya ESCs), tried a different one, but still the same. Even recalibrated the TX controls. But I found, that it simply takes some time after startup. Sometimes 10 seconds or more, but then it works fine. The "secret" seems to be not to touch anything until that happens.

I got one of these last month and it also came with the bullets and the firmware version started at 1.002 as well. Other than some teething problems with settings update failures it has been working well. I'm thinking it might be a revised hardware version from the one you and so many have had trouble with and so it has a different firmware version number sequence... Updated to this same version 1.004 like yours and works flawlessly in my Capra. BT settings are ideal for it as it's not easy to open up to work on!👍

Yep, I think you are spot on. Hope they have nailed it now as it's such a good ESC on the rocks, and like you say, being able to change settings without having to open it up is superb. 🤙

Both of mine seem to be working well now, strange that they are one very different firmware numbers. Perhaps they are from different manufacturing batches and they are just pushing out the firmware appropriate to the batch? Who knows. Thanks for you comments and for watching! 🤙

Great video! I was wondering if the esc saves the settings that you have set up and then you can use it without Bluetooth and never touch the app again?

Thank you for watching! Yes, it is set and forget so it will save your settings and unless you want to tune something then you never need to connect again. 🤙

I noticed towards the end of your video it changed from Rock Cralwer Mode back to On Road Mode. All of your other setting seemed to have stayed the same but this is a problem i have heard a few people complain about

How is it possible that every time I contact the Esc with the app, it always asks for the same update? After the firmware update, the app shows the correct one, but as soon as I reconnect, the old serial number is there again and asks for an update again. Help!!!

Sorry, I have no idea about that one. My best suggestion will be take a video of what you are doing and send it to ISDT as a request for help. They were pretty responsive when I had my issues. Hope you get sorted. 🤞

Hi. I've got 2 of these ESCs now, and both are not connecting to Bluetooth. I've seen other complaints that people are having the same problem. Is this something you're aware of, and do you know of any fixes? Both are over a year old now, so out of warranty! Cheers. Rob

I have the same problem with the original one that I got from the early batch. You can use a working button from a newer unit if you have any. Alternatively I think you can buy just the button from aliexpress for about $10. Hope that helps. 🤙

​@@PhilBrindley , I received 2 new buttons on Friday, and fitted them this afternoon. Deleted the 2 saved profiles on my phone, and started again, and they both now work again. I wasn't able to go through , AliExpress to try to get the bottoms replaced under warranty, as their replacement process was an absolute pain in the rear, so I just ordered them myself. Just over a week's delivery, so I was quite happy with that. Now I just need to learn how to use them again! 😆

The button unit went faulty on the early one I got, so I can’t comment to the Bluetooth via that. The wax still works great though and if I plug in a spare button it connect without issue. The second and third ones I got a little later are both working perfectly still. I think the first one I got was an early batch as that is the one I had trouble with, the later ones have been great. I have one that doesn’t always pair, I just use a button from a working one to configure it with, then swap it back. You can buy new buttons for around $10 as well, assuming it’s too late for you to send it back for a replacement.

Phil, Can i ask a stupid question. Ive fitted the esc and it all works. Unfortunately its now faster in forward that reverse. I have tried the usual tricks, swapping motor wires etc but noting seems to make a difference. IN reverse its always going over 100 percent in the throttle diagram on the phone with fowards only reaching 95 percent. Any ideas?>

Was the throttle trim centred when you calibrated? Probably worth recalibrating either way. Other than that check the throttle curve in the app and make sure there is nothing funky going on in there.

So far, great. Running two of these now and they haven't missed a beat since those early issues and subsequent updates. Very happy with them and would certainly buy more when needed.

yes the new firmware fixes it, I have one that took the .04 and one that took the .13 firmware. there are 2 versions of the 70 pre release sold by banggood and released version sold by Amazon.

Only thing I can suggest is to make sure you are on the very latest firmware that you can be (which the App should select for you). Good luck. 🤙

Could this ESC run Tamiya BZ 23 turn Motor ( this is high torque )

I have 4 of them and throwing all 4 in the bin. Absolute garbage. They glitch, fail, don't save settings, complete rubbish. I have updated and bought brand new versions and still garbage. Everybody please save your money and pay the extra for hobbywing 1080 as they will outlast everything.

I'm starting to see a few comments like this again. I'm surprised that @ISDT seem to have such variable Quality Control. As I've said in other comments, mine have had a few issues, but once I worked through those they've been very good. But I'm beginning to think that I was lucky, rather than others being unlucky. I can't disagree about 1080s, they are rock solid, just wish they'd make them more tunable in the field without having to carry a programming card and connecting it to tweak things.

@@PhilBrindley i actually have just 1 out of 4 that set up once and has been fingers crossed fine. But the other 3 are absolutely garbage. 1 doesn't hold memory no matter what you do. It just sets itself to onroad and stays. Another then constantly glitches back and forth after releasing triger. Final one just constantly does whatever it wants whenever it wants. Sitting perfectly still nobody near the controller and suddenly off it goes all on its own. I give up with them. I'm going to try the new hobbywing 1080 and see how it performs and stick with what i know works

@@rccrazy5556 You may be beyond the point of wanting to try now, and I can understand that from the experience you've had, but the one that glitches back and forth could well be to do with the Active Drag Brake settings. I can totally see why you would not have any confidence in them after that. Have you fed back to ISDT directly? If so, did they try and offer any help/support?

Oh man, that sucks. Was it a brand new one? I had problems with the first one that I had from an early batch, but they have been fine since. Wonder if yours was from the old batch? Hope they are not going back to the poor quality that they started out as. 😞
