This is a fascinating theory. I always felt that watching the show, Mothma and Perin's relationship has that cold, prearranged marriage feel, where Mon Mothma has no real say or control over what her husband does and there's nothing she can do about it. If we hadn't known a single thing about Mon Mothma's character traits before I could have easily blown over that and missed it entirely. Instead, we know her to be a strong woman behind the scenes and at the forefront of the Senate and so instead that marital dynamic felt...off to me. Mon Mothma never struck me as the kind of person who would just "put up" with a husband who gambled away all her money and heavily supported the Empire like was shown to us in S1 so this theory (so glad to be getting back into theories rather than hearing complaints :P) would be a solid explanation of what is really going on. Love it!

Hope you bounce back quickly. Alternately to your theory, Perrin is smart and immediately realizes he has been outplayed. While he knows he is innocent of Mon's accusations, he will also know the money is missing and has no idea where it went. Refuting her would lead to an investigation as to where. He knows Mon well enough to realize that if she is using this tactic to cover what she did with it, whatever the investigation would likely uncover deeds in which he would be implicated. He would then have to prove he was not involved. He has has no other out. He is trapped and can either say nothing and continue on as he has been or refute her, jeopardizing his cushy life.

This was a fun watch, and I think your working theory/question is an interesting one for sure. I absolutely love Andor: it's such an intelligently written and produced show... in my opinion, the best Star Wars has been since the Original Trilogy (though I haven't seen all of the different shows, so there's that), and I can certainly imagine the writers working in a twist such as this. Thanks for the video(s)!

That’s an interesting theory. Correct me if I’m wrong, I recall that he served the military. I’m assuming Perrin served during the Clone Wars either for the Republic or Chandrilan planetary defense forces. We just don’t know in what capacity he served in he could have been an officer at cushy desk or on front lines or an intelligence officer. He did attend an academy and due to his social status he probably attended a prestigious academy something akin to West Point. I like the your theory. I read that Gilroy said Fertha was one of his most interesting characters. We’ll soon find out. Thanks for sharing. Hope you have a speedy recovery.

I really like this theory. I will have to rewatch while looking to this theory. If it's correct what about their daughter? She seems intelligent. Is she the spoiled brat? Or does she know and want to take a more active roll like her Aunt? Is she upset because she's being denied the chance to be an active agent? Or that her parents are pushing her towards a marriage that will help fund the Rebellion? Or does she buy the Empire line and want to reach through Imperial Academy? If Perrin is duplicit in the subterfuge, does their daughter know? Or has she been kept in the dark?

I love that this theory could even make since, due to the writing of the show from Tony, but I think the character is meant to be exactly what he is, selfish mostly concerned about his circles to show the lack of care for others once your on the empires side of “right”
@izzyworld80682 ай бұрын
I love that you're deep diving the series but i think in this case you're overthinking it and reinterprating the way the scenes are lit and scored to fit that theory. The first argument in the apartment we see with Perrin isn't in front of anyone, the driver has already left, and even if they're being bugged then it just seems too contrived. I don't know what you were watching but the way Perrin responds to the accusations of gambling in the car was very animated and angry, she even tells him to calm down because of the driver. Also if she is trying to cover the money he'll be in trouble, so why would he want to get in trouble and not be able to get out of it without revealing the truth (if he was pretending). Their daughter wouldn't have been in on it and Mon selling her out too would be beyond their inferred duplicity. Why risk bringing in others like Tay into her secret life of Rebellion if this is an act? The daughter's coldness is genuine and i can't see her being in on it. The theory throws out all the great the family dynamic and tension as mere subdefuge. That's a completely ridiculous situation and not any more valid than what is actually happening, they are a family falling apart and she is feeling it slip from her grasp and everything she's doing for the Rebellion is making it harder for her to salvage it. Your theory makes a mockery of the idea she sacrificed her family for the Rebellion.
@STARWARS_FANATIC2 ай бұрын
My whole thought of the gambling is that gambling isn’t illegal. Canto Bite for instance. The Empire wouldn’t care about that sort of thing.
@izzyworld80682 ай бұрын
@@STARWARS_FANATICit still seems too much of a ruse to bring that much attention to them. They could have done something far more noble like set up the "charitable fund" and funnel off that in the first place.

@@STARWARS_FANATIC i don't know if you're familiar with the comic series that delved into "what if" scenarios for each of the original trilogy films. The series was called "Infinites". It changed ONE aspect of each film and how that one thing creates a domino effect on the whole original story. But in doing that change they had to factor everything it would have effected and whether some ongoing situations would never occur as a result. Worth a look, and it kind of makes you think of all the players in the story and what one change can do to them

His gambling could allow him to mix with more shady people also. Plus he has military contacts. I see him going back to his military origins in the rebellion.
@ericblenner-hassett39452 ай бұрын
It is a good theory. To add reasons for doing it, think how insulated he and their child would be with all the charades swimmingly to get under the Senators' skin. Even the matchmaking ceremony seeming to be against the Senators wishes. Any attempt at connecting with the Rebels would fall sorely to The Senator only, showing, possibly enhanced division and derision of the family as a whole.

I initially wondered this in watching your Mon Mothma video. I’d never considered it before. However, in rethinking it, I don’t think so. The show doesn’t really show anyone else hiding their rebellious collaboration. I don’t think Perin would be the one person they would do this with. I feel like we would have seen a side convo or something eluding to this.

Don’t think it’s correct. He genuinely feels puzzled like he doesn’t know what she’s talking about when he’s accused of gambling. This is the perfect scapegoat for Motma. Get well soon Gerry, we'll be waitin' for yer vids. 1.- I like the theory, don't see it happening but like it, I more see Mon betraying/sacrificing Perrin (which is sadder and darker, but I don't really like it). 2.- Ridiculous coming from a forty-something, but something in me keeps kinda shipping Tay and Mon (since her marriage appears sort of sour), Can Tay be trusted though? Will Tay be sacrificed? 3.- I don't dislike any of these characters, if anything I dislike the Ganster, because he exudes shadiness, and the daughter's attitude and religious inclinations, but she's just a kid, cut her some slack!.

Let's assume for a moment Perrin *isn't* in on it. Assume he really is just a jerk. He's someone who was himself forced into marriage when he was a child, in a culture that frowns on divorce. He's not supportive of Mon Mothma, and he's something of a collaborator. At least in the casual sense that everyone is a collaborator, unless they're actively fighting the empire. And for that, I wouldn't shed any tears for him if something happened to him, but he's no worse than a trillion others, so far as we know. On the other hand, Mon Mothma is regularly putting her family in serious danger of death or worse, without their consent or even knowledge. Mon Mothma may be a hero of the rebellion, but she's a terrible wife and mother. If I knew them and all the facts, I would advise divorce. And if I was the judge, I would give Perrin sole custody of their daughter.
@izzyworld80682 ай бұрын
