I had less obstruction than you and it still says 4 minutes :/ Maybe 5% was red.

Losing faith in the 3 D model obstruction report. People with NO obstruction still show blockage every 2-4 minutes. They have work to do. The good news is, despite what the app says, it will work with tall trees around, if you are lucky. I'm able to do all that I wish to do with very few incidents of buffering. I'm working on a video comparing my current experience compared to what the media expectations are. Thanks for the comment! Hope you can subscribe if you haven't already. @@TechVoicebytheLake Thanks for the reply. I figured as much but I'm that kind of person that needs 100% I doubt it would make a difference in my case, there's always 100% sat coverage according to the space map. Good luck on your channel, I'll let you know how it turns out.

Thankyou - It was good to see it was still usable for you even though you had more obstructions. My obstruction test showed interruption every 5 minutes. Since trees are evergreens that will not likely change much. Well described,...now just waiting to get Dishy. Its been a long wait, since the plandemic started I can't even upload videos to KZbin as the terrestrial link is down around 500kbps.

You don't need the dish to run the APP but you do need an internet connection! Download it and run in on your phone to see what it thinks your best location with no blockage might be! Good luck!

You can download the app any time from the apple store or android store. You can also check blockages. The app works. I do not have the dish yet. I ordered March 3. Hoping to get in the beta soon.

my app will go thru the scan process then when it comes to view results it goes to first screen without giving results.

Hello! Thanks for the comment. I'm guessing that you don't have the dish yet. Ironically, to run the app you have to have access to the internet at the location where you run the obstruction part of the app. There is a general feeling that the app isn't giving accurate info, but only Starlink knows for sure. I've been on the wait list and now they just shipped. I can't make the app work on android. All it says is 'give app permission access' but that is all on for location and camera. Open maps and topo work but not the starlink app. Since I just grabbed it - it's v. 22022.09.1 . I am concerned about trees at my loc. Looks like I'll find out soon the old fashioned way.

Version is correct. Make sure phone is at latest OS. Then go to Settings Then LOCATION . Location should be on. Then click on Starlink on list of apps. Set Starlink to "Allow only while using the app.". That's how my phone is set

Hello! Starlink is not an entertainment network., It's the method of establishing internet connections. You must have the equipment for it to work AND country approval. Iran does not have an approval agreement. Good luck.

Thanks for the comment. The scan in the video was the location of my dish between NOV2020 and Spring. Leaves make the difference so hence the bad numbers. I moved it to my roof before the new app came out and getting enough signal to be happy. :-)

@@TechVoicebytheLake Hi. I spent time today wandering to different points on our property, using this obstruction app to check. Best I could find was 3 minutes between obstructions, and that was from the top of our roof (~4.5 metres), many were 1 minute or even a 15 seconds! What is your experience using the service from an obstructed area, with speed and stability? We are in rural Australia and would love to go ahead with the order, though it does not inspire much confidence, I thought we should have no trouble at all with 100 degrees sky visibility.

Thanks for the comment! Right now my interruptions are 2 to 3 minutes apart. And blockage in the STATS area is 7 to 9 minutes during the rolling previous 12 hours. If I didn't know any of that I couldn't tell because everything I use works fine. I have Google minis throughout the house and response is fast, Netflix, Prime, and KZbin work fine. Each location is different but if you aren't using zoom there is enough connection to work. Good Luck! Ed O

Very true. Haven't crossed that yet since obstructions cause live connection like zoom to drop out so been sticking with cell phones that also drop out here in the woods. Thanks for the comment.

Yep! I always warn that I may drop in and out during a zoom call. Does give me an excuse to "drop out" if this get boring. :-) Just checked the app and it shows Min 28ms, Max 68ms last 35ms But, I've expected it to change day to day. But stable enough to be able to stay in the 21sst century. You should get dynamite speeds in the desert. I'm surrounded by tall trees and am surprised it's working at all. Note in the past several days a lot of chatter about shipments arriving . Will probably surpass the 20K from last month. Hope you get lucky!

Yes! You need the app to set up the system! I don't know if the app can be installed on a PC! Tend to doubt it since the app is used to check for clearance and uses the phone camera to do that! Good excuse to get a new phone!

Thanks for the vid. When I scan for obstructions , it goes through the process , hits 100%, and just says "processing" and never gets any further. It can say "processing" for 20mins, but doesn't get any further. Tuning Pixel 4XL with latest Android updates. Also tried with an older iPhone , but exactly the same situation 😕, any ideas ? 🤔

Very strange! Do you have any internet where you are? Make sure it isn't in Airplane mode, just in case it needs that. Compass working to know where you are??? You may not may have enough memory to process? Clear Cash and make sure something isn't taking up memory automatically. Some of this doesn't make sense on two phones, but stream of conscious. Delete app and reload from play store. How about trying it at another location to see if it works there. That's all I can think of. Continually processing sounds like a memory or connection problem. First I've heard of it. Let me (us) know if you fix it. I'll try playing with mine to see if I think of anything else. Good Luck!

Greetings! I went out by the lake and ran the test and it worked fine. Bad results, but fine. Then I put it in Airplay mode and it failed exactly like yours. Turned Airplane off and still locked up. Then reran with connection to internet and it worked fine again. So, my conclusion is that to check if you can have internet at a place, you have to have internet there already. which is kind of nuts. So, try it with a hotspot at the location to see if it will give a result if there isn't a cell tower nearby. Wish I knew about this before I made the video. :-) A definite Catch 22. :-)

Hello, again! I've been in contact with Tech Support and they confirm that the app is only useful once you have the dish and connected into the Starlink network. Shared my opinion on that and they say they have submitted a feature request to have the tool available standalone. Also, suggest they have a warning on the app stating that it can only be used to support a live system, not a future one. Did you have internet connection when you tested it out? I'm going to go out of my forest haven and find wifi to run a test to confirm what they say about their network and not just any wifi system. Thanks for pointing that out. Hope they do something with the request since everyone wants to know if a dish will work before they order it.

Tech Support may have done something since I ran a test at another location with WIFI and it worked and had confirmation of similar result in another state. So, It now needs internet connection and Location turned on for the app to work.
