Hey, Mike! I loved this video. Have you considered starting a S/W2 channel? This is the type of video that'd be perfect for a second channel. More behind the scenes and unscripted, update videos. It will raise engagement and give you another channel to post more free form videos.

Some people force KZbin like a square peg into a round hole. They eventually find a way to make it entertaining or at least digestible. Even the biggest channels can be cringey at times. This whole platform is exactly where you belong man. No matter what the content it’s always a vibe. Thanks man.

Regarding your welding at around 17:00 going bad; do you have plenty of vents opposite your purge feed? If you dont adequately vent your purge it can sometimes push through the gap exactly where your welding and push your torch gas back causing oxidisation as it effectively builds pressure up inside the part.

Less polish is fine imo for the 244 at this point; we're now in the race car shit portion of the build where you'll be constantly breaking, fixing, and breaking again. Less polish both shows more of what goes into that struggle while also giving you more free time to work to get back on track quicker. Besides, us in the know know that the next project will absolutely get that cinema level quality documentation it deserves. It'll let you have one build getting the SW special and one build showing the down and dirty side of racing and repair.

10:00 I know this is in the middle of a segment where you're literally nitpicking the exhaust, but... have you considered that your exhaust pipes are now your rear bumper, and are attached directly to your turbocharger? Something to consider for any later work, since the turbo housing is both hot and full of oil this feels like a fire safety consideration.

Should have stayed with K24. Use a shorter stroke crank and longer rods. Solves piston speed problem and better rod to stroke ratio takes stress off of main journal bearings and piston side loads. Also wouldn't have to fab up a bunch of new stuff for engine dimensional changes. Just my two cents. But yeah, taller deck, longer rods, shorter stroke crank equals less stressed engine.

Great video guy. I’m not bothered about polished videos. I’m a tech content geek. It’s why I love Rob Dahm, with his mix of filming and best of all; signature lack of outro. Regards the welding it’s possible the material got too hot. Especially if you welded the butt next to it immediately prior to that one with not enough cool down time in between. I tend to weld an inch, let it cool, weld an inch until I’ve completed a butt, then move to the other end somewhere to allow the heat dissipate from the area I’ve just welded. I’m not an exhaust specialist, but I’ve served time in the trade. Someone else suggested too much pressure within the pipe due to inadequate purge feed. Also possible. If you combine that with hot gas trying to escape in the vicinity it could also have contributed. Either way, there’s no substitute for experience. These are all lessons on the way to improving your skills. Great job 👍

When welding aluminum have you considered using thicker rod? You can typically go a little faster which will mean less heat soak. And not sure what tungsten you're using... while people typically use 0% I've had good results with Lanthanated and zircionated. Give it a whirl, but at least try a thicker rod.
