Is the piece of Ish, former friend, fraternity brother, rapist in prison? After you were able to tell your family about the assault, did y’all tell the police and press charges? From what she stated, that guy is a true predator because he was around for years waiting for an opportunity to attack her. He’s truly sadistic and belongs under the prison.

I loved the interaction between sister and brother. The subject regarding sexual abuse was excellent. I am a pastoral counselor and therapist for over 25 years for several churches. It is a very difficult for people to admit they have been abused. Also, I am glad mental health is being addressed in more Black churches over the years. It was quite engaging.

I was in this sexual violation with a gay female's married brother very similar to described in this podcast we are watching and hearing. This guy everytime he would see me standing or sitting next to his sister he would run up and try to kiss me. I'd push away, say stop, even before I had said hello back which he never spoke or asked to invade my space. It's worse because he had no distance to even care whether or not I was there as his sister's lover or platonic friend still willing to befriend someone and their family regardless of how many view the lgbtq community if seen together the flock is on the same bird. So I thought I made it too easy to be around. I let it go. I for one thought I needed to have his sister in my life but the remainder of a huge family was not behaving that way. In the group of 5 siblings he was more respectful but it would be if only her he got very aggressive. And it seemed like she couldn't hear me telling him no and stop as thought just a front for some out of sight lie I was offering. This family rolled in multiple cars everywhere with their partners. So it was not unusual for others be there while others say may go to the store. And there was not a visible chain. I'm the person who leaves relationships on a good note no anger and don't return. I move to this new apartment no longer around his sister as much about 5 years later I'm now maybe 26 years old but he's maybe 35 years old. I say oh sure I'm at this apartment no I don't mind you visit as though I'm still in the " family group" but I wasn't. And I really didn't like his disrespect to his sisters company, his wife's public image with a cheating husband unaware. So as soon as he gets to the door it hits me again what type of person because I realized immediately I was alone in the apartment. I wint let him farther than the door now changed my mind I want him as a visitor. So he continues to be himself in gaining aggression at the door. He's hugging ne so I stoop down in an attempt get out of the hug but he pushes me down instead and now on top of me at the front door. It's a dining room not the living room whete we've accidentally rolled off the sofa and bed to the floor. But now I got a point to get from his pants grabbing and I'm kicking gently definitely not hard enough or in location because I care too much about hurting a person who hates both of us literally. I never allowed my self in that situation again. I go and find his sister still hanging around with done of the sane people in out group many LGBT community. I call her out of the apartment and tell her what happened with her brother. She's looking at me like in the mud not blood or water clean in glass. Says nothing. I hear myself trying to defend myself it was nothing same way I would say to her years earlier. You see me sitting with you and he storms your conversation with me everytime and you say nothing like leave her alone get away. So I ended the conversation understanding it wouldn't matter and I got away. Then fast forward 25 years later I see him as a bouncer at a party I'm eith my boyfriend. I say who he is and why I responded the way I did. But I learned probably they talked in the mandate because he started getting very aggressively violent. We are not together but he just saw me 5 years later with some of the same stupid comment. IT must be in the beer and water because not in me.

I was shocked Dr. Thema Bryant had divorced. I firstcheardcher preach and sent several to my exhusnand because he mostly worked in mental health and we met at a job with many mental patients. I saw him working and so did he see me. My coworkers were excited until I said we got married with no wedding out of time we chose as a couple. He also was a victim of sexual abuse by a female babysitter his mother didn't believe. I understood and married after 2 years dating. I refused to jump a broom after 2 weeks he asked me. I've been asked to marry twice. And one bought ne a ring bit I learned he was already married. So my question was why would you buy a ring while I'm sitting outside in car waiting not knowing which store he entered.

Watching my parents age was difficult. They both passed away in 2022. Good point Pastor re: the "trauma of being the child."...as an adult. I also dealt with the guilt of being "relieved" when they passed. ...because they weren't struggling anymore..and it was harder to watch them live in pain

So refreshing, genuine, real and warm. As PK children we gain so many flowers yet there are many weeds that must be pulled to mature into the calling in our OWN life. I admire Dr Thema as she accesses all of who she is, seeing this side of her, I know why. Grounded and Guided, unimpressed by the rest. I loved the Dear future Wife/Husband… no better person to share than a sibling that’s also a friend. Thank you Dr Jamal for this LOVING conversation. I’ve been trying to face this childhood trauma of mine on my own all these years and while it hasn’t been the easiest road traveled, messages like this really help. Now in my 50s I’m working to come to terms with the impact/effects the trauma has/had on my life , working on setting boundaries and trying to find an understanding in forgiveness. I pray that you’ll both continue this work and know that it’s truly a blessing. 🙌🏾🙌🏾
