Hawaii is an interesting place with a long and complex history that has resulted in a real mix of cultural influences and people today. I ask the locals what they think of their islands. Has anyone been to Hawaii and what was their experience?

Yes...complex and difficult to digest and understand, especially in one or even a few visits. I have dear friends born on Kauai, who have been there for generations and with some origins in Philippines. They now live on Big Island, because of all the takeover of their land. Some of the family is still on Kauai and other Islands. I was invited to DJ near Pahoa and had an amazing experience because I was welcomed by my dear friend and brother Keoni, and his father, mother and family. I was truly a blessing to come in respect for the native and culture and not as a tourist w aims to take over. I learned quite a bit about what is going on there. Visited the waterfalls and also was in the active volcano zone, just after the big activity. There was still steam rising through the woods and it was amazing to be close to the core of the earth. Kona was lovely as well on the north west side. I also visited a friend in Maui a few years later, and one year before the suspicious fire that destroyed a wonderful area. Stayed in Kula there in the mountains, and was on the beaches of Paia. There are spots in middle beach, where you can swim au natural and the experience was divine, bllissful, with the blue colors, the white sands and the rainbow colors of the sun as well as literal rainbows all over the island. Wailea at sunset was bliss as well. I hope you do have time to visit these other areas and if you do go to Big Island, I can try to connect you with my Hawaiian family there. Thanks for another lovely video and wishing you well. ~"~

Hawaii is still paradise...look to the forests and the plants and the beautiful volcanic scenery. It's one of the places you can get greeted with a lei,hug or kiss and a welcoming " Aloha". There is still coconuts and ohia lehua ( native) trees. You can still eat Hawaiian food- poi, sweet potato, and fish( ahi, or tako-octopus). You can also eat limpets or opihi a Hawaiian delicacy. You can see hula shows and hear the Hawaiian language.
@James-sn5mgКүн бұрын
Hawaii is overrated. If you want paradise vibe, Southeast Asia is where it's at. Phillipines, Vietnam, Thailand are all better than Hawaii anyday. They got amazing beautiful scenery, A LOT more to do, much better nightlife and 1000 times cheaper. And people welcome tourist unlike Hawaii where they hate every outsider. Hawaii is racist as hell.

I’ve observed that while Hawaiians are kind and welcoming, there seems to be a protective caution when it comes to their culture and identity. They value their language, traditions, and heritage deeply, and interactions often feel carefully measured to avoid offense. I hope that one day Hawaii might choose to pursue greater independence, allowing its unique culture to thrive without external influences. The beauty and richness of Hawaiian 🌺 traditions deserve to be preserved and celebrated fully, as they are truly extraordinary.

I’m from here and proud to be a local, but if it wasn’t the USA, some other country would have taken this land as their own period. It’s strategically too important not to acquire militarily. If I had to choose a country to belong to, I’m glad that it was the USA. Do we have gripes and problems? Who doesn’t? Mother nature is always breathtaking, love this. Honolulu, Hawaii, is a place I know from the biography of the 44th President of the United States, as he was born there. He also spent part of his childhood on the island. Later in his life, when he was considering running for office, Barack Obama returned to this paradise island to reflect on his decision. The rest is history. In "Dreams from My Father," Barack Obama provides a vivid and heartfelt account of how growing up in Hawai'i shaped his worldview and identity. Here are some key points about how he describes Hawai'i in the book: Diversity and Multicultural Influence Obama highlights the unique cultural diversity of Hawai'i, with its mix of Native Hawaiians, Asian immigrants, mainland Americans, and others. He reflects on how this diversity offered him a model of relatively harmonious coexistence and shaped his understanding of community and belonging. It provided him with early exposure to different cultures and perspectives, which later influenced his approach to leadership and public life. His Grandparents and Mother Raised primarily by his grandparents, Stanley and Madelyn Dunham, and his mother, Ann Dunham, Obama describes their deep influence on his values and outlook. His grandparents had moved to Hawai'i from Kansas, drawn by the promise of opportunity and a fresh start. Their support and guidance were instrumental during his formative years, helping him navigate questions of identity and belonging. Natural Beauty and Island Life Obama writes about the serene beauty of Hawai'i-the beaches, mountains, and ocean-and how this environment offered a unique backdrop to his childhood. The relaxed pace of island life and the connection to nature are themes that surface throughout his reflections on Hawai'i. Struggles with Identity While Hawai'i was a diverse and inclusive place, Obama also wrestled with questions about his identity as a biracial child growing up in a predominantly white and Asian-American environment. These struggles are a central theme in the book, as he sought to reconcile his heritage and understand where he fit in the broader world. Love watching u, tnx for sharing🌹❤

I've been to Oahu a few times and I'd say it's lost its charm since the early 2000s, the redevelopment of the more charming city areas like Lewers Street and the original market place really started to take the charm away. If you want a genuine Hawaii experience either go to the other shorelines of Oahu or the other Islands, Oahu is more and more American and a commercial tourist trap.

Enjoyed this. I have only visited O’ahu some years ago. I felt like an invader. My friend ended up cutting her foot and I had to take her to the hospital. what most people conveniently overlook is, had it not been for the US military building a base in Hawaii, followed by World War II, followed by Hawaii becoming a state, the islands are so strategically located they would have 100% been taken by another large country. Now, you might imagine that the outcome of that could potentially be positive, but can you honestly say that any other superpower would have treated Hawaii better than the US does? I don’t think so.

I was lucky to live there due to the military in 2001-2005 and again in 2007-2010. My family and I have many memories and great family pictures. It was a lot different back then. Still beautiful, however, the Hawaiian government (being what it is) has allowed this paradise to become more run downed with homelessness and more crime. I turned down a government job due to the poor conditions there. We still have friends that live there. I wont even go back there to visit. It's sad what it has become. Hawaii will always have a special place in our heart.

Let me tell you my experience as an East Asian who migrated to Hawaii in 1995. It's a good place to travel and visit but living is absolutely crap. It's the kind of place you visit for a week or two and getting the hell out. Hawaii is just a brand name and brand image created by their tourism industry. It's the Gucci of travel industry. I never understood why so many people want to live there. Within a day, you can circle around the entire Island and do everything there's to do in about a week. Hawaiians had warfare, human sacrifices to gods, infanticide, taking wives at 13, women were forbidden to eat certain things on pain of death, negative impact on native species after arrival etc, so it’s wrong headed to totally romanticize the past. Hawai'i is indeed an exotic American state. Much of its history is idealized. There are other Pacific islands that show you the lifestyle without modern laws and technology. Nauru and so on. The US protected Hawaii from being conquered and assimilated by Japan and, now, China. I would argue the current situation is excellent for Hawaii. Sometimes our tribal cultures fade away. Mine did. Or, people can freely keep theirs alive as they wish.

The U.S. taking over Hawaii is just another chapter of the islands being conquered. King Kamehameha conquered the islands by force. His army committed atrocities to achieve this. I highly doubt she needs subscribers who only seek to find the negative in an incredibly produced video featuring real stories of real indigenous people's in their own land. The fact that you are so irritated shows you are more upset people calling out the dirty laundry of the US as opposed to the actual wrongdoings of an imperialist oppressor. Take your grievances elsewhere. 🤡

"The Destruction of Paradise" is such a click-bait doom and gloom attitude. Same with all the takes in California videos. Not to mention all of the interviews feel so deliberately leading in the questioning.

The amount of ads in your videos seem to be increasing making them difficult to want to continue watching.

It hasn’t increased, but it’s very expensive to make these videos so hopefully you can be patient and just watch them, it helps To support the channel 🙏
