Mine went the same way it lost all its leaves and then the stem rotted, to my knowledge I didn't over water it, I tried repotting it but to no avail, they seem to require very particular growing requirements. I was tempted to purchase another one but I don't think they are worth the hassle, maybe it is a plant that cannot be grown outside of its natural habitat.

My hawaiian palm started losing all its leafs very quickly, one by one they turned brown and fell off... in one week time it only had one tiny sprout left. I stopped watering it and moved it to a more shady space in my appartement. One month later It had regrown new leafs and is doing better then ever! So maybe move the plant around untill you find a place where it feels good? and never overwater it ;) Cheers!

Thank you for sharing your story. This plant was rotten on the inside so removing the rotting tissue was the only way to try to save it. It was dead by the end of the video. Hope your plant continues to do well.

@@GardeningatDouentza Yes, quite difficult to grow, even here in Southern California. I have lost four to rot. They are very susceptible to rot, mealybugs, and spider mites, especially in winter. Their native habitat was almost sheer volcanic cliffs which have excellent drainage and brilliant air circulation. This time, I am using a homemade potting mix of volcanic cinders, perlite, and a bit of sterilized potting soil. I usually lose them In winter. So winter watering will be drastically curtailed in favor of misting and watering just a bit once month. The Hawaiian name for the plant Alula.

My fingers are crossed for the healing of this cute plant. Hopefully is will continue to grow and all would be well. As one subscriber stated I would have asked for another plant and returned the infected one. I don't have the patience to go through all this. But I am in this journey with you.

I have a Brigamia that is side shooting from the bulb. Is this usual? I'm used to certain plants producing pups this way but can't find anything that suggests Brigamia does this.

You did the best you could, the problem was the soil, i had it in the past and it also rotten, but now i've ordered it again, i think maybe the first thing i need to do it remove the soil and use a cactus mix or sand.

@Gardening at Douentza Where did u bought ur plant ? I actually got 2 plants last autumn, which came with the same soil as yours and they both show the same syntoms by now. That is quite funny cause i gave one plant to someone as birthday gift ... We are both sure that we did all but overwater the plants... so it might be an infection ... very sad
@GardeningatDouentza
@GardeningatDouentza 4 жыл бұрын
If it was an infection on mine, it didn't come from the soil. The roots and lower portion were fine. However, it makes sense to repot this plant in succulent mix if it comes in a regular potting mix. Thanks for watching.

@@GardeningatDouentza Thanks for sharing it in a video. I read some articels and found out that it might be a kind of fungus, which came most likely out of the soil , but i ll never now cause mine is almost dead ... But once more , thanks for sharing

I know this video is old but maybe someone can help me! I just got a hawaiian palm a few weeks ago. It had one yellow leaf so I removed it and have only watered it once a week. Now it has developed another yellow leaf and I’m worried all of them will go this colour! It was directly in front of the window so I figured it might be getting to much sun so I’ve moved it. Any other ideas? Should I repot it already into succulent/ cacti mix or wait and see

Considering how extensive the rot was, there weren't much chances of recovery anyway... at that point, I would have attempted to propagate from the shoot (rarely works, but in last resort...) In case like this, with already present and active rot, it is needed to cut into healthy tissue around the infection sites and to sterilise the wound with h2o2 before applying charcoal and/or cinnamon
@GardeningatDouentza
@GardeningatDouentza 4 жыл бұрын
Hi there and thank you for your comment. I also felt the plant needed better cauterisation but, unfortunately, I had nothing in. I found the rot when I was repotting the plant so had to go with the unexpected surgery. It's a shame but so it goes.
@sjusovare
@sjusovare 4 жыл бұрын
@@GardeningatDouentza alternatively, you could also have totally cut the stem below the rot level and wait for it to grow back from the side (like a yucca), but seing how far down the rot was going, I'm no sure it would have worked either... Such rots are usually the sign of excessive watering, so it's likely it started before you got it.
@GardeningatDouentza
@GardeningatDouentza 4 жыл бұрын
@@sjusovare I think whatever way I did it that plant was too far gone. There had been two in the shop and when I realised the extent of the rot in mine I was kicking myself that I hadn't chosen the one with side shoots. I had chosen the larger one with a single trunk!
