But my parents/fam stayed and are rebuilding. Lahaina will always be home and will rebuild stronger. Well, Five long, non-Quick years ago in 2018, there was a 2018 community meeting about the Lane Fire, where a large cafeteria full of Lahaina residents were complaining and asking why weren't the sirens sounded when the Lane fire broke out? Why weren't there any emergency alerts sent out? Why did the water go dry? Why wasn't there a preemptive electric Power shut off? Why wasn't there pre-planned evacuation ESCAPE routes out? Well, guess who was there that day listening to all the peoples complaints and demands? Maui Emergency Manager, Herman Andaya and, Fire Chief Brad Ventura and now, Maui Council woman, Tamara Paltin, were all there hearing it all and none of these people ever did a damned thing to correct any of this for the Past 5 long years! They knew all along they were supposed to sound the sirens, because the public had already vehemently demanded it, but the Lazy ass inept thug criminals purposely did not Sound the sirens to warn People, nor did they ever do any corrections, which ended up killing a lot of innocent people, because there was no warning! Ohhh, and they made sure that there was no warning for the remainder of the rest of the fire which burned out of control for 12 hours more! Oh! doesn't this show how caring they were? This is a crime in itself! They had all damned day and into the night to figure that one out and you are saying this all happened so fast??? The fire started at 2:55 pm and parts of Front Street started to burn after 5 p.m. The gentleman who died on Front Street should have been warned and saved! Yes, These same thug criminal officials who run Maui, never even cared enough to sound the siren for the rest of the full duration of the fire = 12 long hours, when people desperately needed Warning! People died because they were not warned by siren or by Emergency Text Alert!! Do you also call a negligent 12-hour shutdown of a major evacuation route that Blocked the Lahaina towns People from escaping a fire, " one of those quick fast Type Things"??? Thug officials Shut down Hwy 30 South to Hokiokio Place to the Bypass For 12 hours. Not one THUG OFFICIAL ever demanded that HECO clear power Poles from the evacuation Lanes and open up the Escape Route!!! So, Innocent people died from this too!! I wonder if the Attorney General ,calls a mayor whose whole Island is in Mass Crisis from early morning on, whose Lazy complacent ass Waits all day, from 5:51am in the morning until 8:00 pm at night to call a state of emergency, one of those fast moving quick type fire things? Gee whiz, it took Mayor Bissen and his Legal Counsel 14 Long hours to call in the National Guard!😮😮😮 oh yes siree, we can all see how fast they acted! And when HIEMA, (Hawaiis Emergency Agency) and the state of Hawaii knew Lahaina was burning down in a massive firestorm at 3 pm noon,, it took them and major General Hara, until 11:52 p.m at night . to get the National Guard there! 9 Plus long Hours to get the Guard help! Uhm, everybody was already dead and had Burned alive in the streets and in their cars and in their houses, and the town was gutted and leveled by The time the National Guard arrived at 11:52 Pm. that night! Thanks to the Fast work of Major General Hara, and HIEMA, who for some unknown reason. did not react Fast at all!! So, innocent people DIED due to their negligence! The state and HARA knew of the crisis and the fires early in the morning, yet Hara and State Administrator, James Barros, never prepared the troops for deployment early on so that National Guard could deploy! The 42 innocent people who died on kahua Street could have used those guards! Have you ever thought about what it looks like to see 42 dead people on one street? this is a crime!!! So, how is it that everything happened so fast and so quickly? Yes, the fire moved fast but there was supposed to be proper emergency response to it, which never happened!! Oh, Forgot one thing, Police Chief Pelletier also failed call in extra officer help for 8/8/23, even though he had a full 12 hour advance notification warning = high wind and Red Flag Warning alerts! He also knew from 5:51 a.m. on, that one of Lahainas major evacuation routes ( Hwy 30 South to Hokiokio Place to Bypass out) was Shut down due to Fallen Power Poles/Lines, yet he and Mayor Bissen never took any proactive steps to urge HECO to just clear the Poles and open up the critically needed evacuation ESCAPE Lanes! Pelletier and Bissen allowed it to remain shut For 12 long hours! This major Road Block also contributed to the deadly gridlock that occurred all thru town, because the people were being stalled and trapped within the town. all being forced onto Front Street, which was also being barricaded and Blocked By ORDERS from Police Chief Pelletier 😢 causing innocent fleeing People to be death trapped in a deadly chain reaction all throughout town! Pelletier also ordered his Police to cut off and Firmly Block The Cannery malls safe escape exit route out to safety on Front Street and east on Kapanukea Street to Hwy 30 North! Police illegally blockaded this escape route and Blocked Front St., Hwy 30 and Fleming St. for an officially time stamped Documented time of two hours (For Legal Court purposes) = From 2:55pm to 4:53pm by Police Chief Pelletiers orders to his officers to Block and trap People in the oncoming Firestorm ! Pelletier had evacuees locked up in the gridlocked Cannery mall parking lot for 2 long hours, while he blocked and cut off their safe access route out on Kapanukea Street!! This also stalled and impeded all of the townspeople from escaping! PELLETIER DOUBLE- BLOCKED THEM FROM ESCAPING! This is Criminal! Two long hours to Be blockaded and held hostage in a Gridlocked death trap is another one of those non-quick Type things that somehow just happened!!! Gee whiz, I guess things to do with this Fire really didn't happen fast at all! It surely WAS NOT 'the Fast fire that outpaced these Thug criminals. where's the criminal investigation? He did wrong and what he did. was grossly negligent, illegal and bad, bad, bad wrong which contributed to the deaths of many, many innocent people and all of this must be uncovered and some punishment must be exacted for all the suffering and death due to his negligence. And the locals only received $700/household for this tragedy + a President who fell asleep in the middle of the speaking event who only bothered to drop by after his planned vacation was over + a VP who never bothered to go there at ALL + little to no government assistance as far as providing food, water, medical supplies & other essentials to the locals right after the tragedy. I believe they put that fence around it so people couldn't see all of the bodies and remains being recovered. I understand that they do need to control who goes into a scene like this! the biggest problem was that the lead person of the whole fire investigation and search and Recovery was that documented liar and unethical person called Police Chief Pelletier, he was allowed to take over the whole burn zone, , same way he went about orchestrating all the road Blocks and Barricading, resulting in the death trapping of the whole town of Lahaina into a Road Blocked, non-escapable trap in a Fire Storm! It's True. For a Law enforcement officer with 23 years experience in Traffic Control, All of the actions he took that day clearly Show his intentions were not aimed at trying to help the Public Quickly Escape out of the Fire Storm! I don't just falsely accuse people. As long as he is police chief no one will ever get the truth about anything to do with this fire! The numbers of Dead and the Location and manner of their death are skewed! I remember when the news about the fire break on my country I literally panicked and been up on every news about the fire. That's my first time seeing whole ass city brunt in just one snap. It's heartbreaking seeing a wonderful community being burnt down. My mind thinking about the people who deal with this. I can't imagine the pain and grief they all suffering even up to this day. I pray for them up until now. People of Lahaina deserves better. Despite them being away from the mainland they deserve a quick response from every incidents. We are a democracy, but we also have tax revenue that supports social programs and public schools and libraries, roads, bridges, fire and police...The list goes on. And, yes, disaster recovery. FEMA, and other federal agencies have designated over $3 billion dollars for Maui, including direct aid to survivors for housing, debris removal, school construction, and infrastructure. The Hawaiian government has approved over $800 million. You're correct...We do need better allocation and oversight. Congress passed the largest infrastructure bill, since the Eisenhower administration. It is being allocated on current projects. And, Ukraine: We have to help Ukraine. If some American citizens want to think selfishly, maybe they can realize if Russia takes over all of Ukraine, where will they go next? NATO countries. Poland, Hungary, Romania. That means U.S. soldiers, on the ground, fighting in those countries. None of us want that.

Watching this makes me think that the state should definitely invest in strategically placing a lot more hydrants than there currently are, with backup power ready to go, in a lot of spots. Also all government buildings or buildings of cultural importance should be rebuilt to have sprinklers on the roofs in strategic locations (with their own backup power) so that if fire were to ever come to the area again, on goes the sprinklers and they stay on till the fire is gone. I mean they're on an island, gotta pull out all the stops to protect the place. And yes, I know it's probably not the most affordable plan of action but I'd much rather be dealing with water damage than a completely gone structure.

@@donnawolfe2365 no, haven't had the time to read the AGs report but there is an old plantation road that could have been used as a fire escape that day but it was padlocked so people had to break the lock in order to use that road. The road intersects with Keawe Street and runs north sort of parallel to Honoapiilani Hwy. The private landowner who keeps it locked is the West Maui Land Company aka, Peter Martin. I saw that padlocked road in 2007, when I was last there in Lahaina.

On the day of the Lahaina Fire, Maui Mayor Bissen waited a Full 14 hours before he called in the National Guard troops Rescue Assistance that was desperately needed! He didn't Call For help until 8 pm, at night! This is a crime! Who in the world would wait 14 hours during a chaotic 70 mph wind storm and a completely out of control deadly fire storm to call in National Guard help? What kind of Person would delay and wait and delay and wait knowing all the while innocent men, women and children were burning alive on the streets unwarned and unhelped? What kind of person would wait and not call for help for People when they knew whole families were burning alive in their cars, in their homes, and on the streets, and in the ocean, and were trapped in a fast moving deadly Firestorm? Who would wait? what kind of person would allow this? Mayor Bissen is that very type of person, because he was the criminal who waited. Add another one of those criminal types to the mix and you get HIEMAS, Major General Hara, who waited 18 -20 hours before he delivered National Guard troops to Lahaina. 😢 He did not deliver the Guard until 11:52 p.m. at night! Even the states HIEMAS Emergency Director, Major General Hara, also waited 18 hours thru all the suffering and death and delivered Troops at 11:52 pm at night! When I vacationed there I was actually quite scared to look them in the eye. They let me know I was absolutely NOT Welcome. I traveled the world and never felt that way anywhere else on the planet. I’ve traveled to all South American countries that they say are so dangerous and I still would say Hawaii felt the most unsafe. I’ve been to all Hawaii’s islands, hoping one was better than the other in this regard, it wasn’t. It’s intentional and they make sure that hate is passed on culturally.
