SPOILERS A common trope with superhero shows and movies involving a non-powered hero, is that the hero is always upset when people don't recognize them, or don't seem excited to meet them. I like how this show goes in opposite direction. Hawkeye constantly downplays his role as an avenger, and visibly seems uncomfortable the couple of times that somebody makes a big deal about it, like when the restaurant staff refuses to let him pay for his own dinner.

Good point, but this character was always used to being in the shadows until he join the Avengers, he was always up in his nest watching from afar, he was an agent before the Avengers. At this point he just wants to be with his family, and dealing with the loss of his best friend
@thedefinitionisthis

I do appreciate that he prefers to downplay his role as an Avenger. People tend to overlook him as a character and Avenger (my girlfriend forgot he was an Avenger lol). So I like that the show plays with that reputation, but rather than have him be miffed about being "a forgotten Avenger", he actually prefers it that way, especially now after the events of "Infinity War" and "Endgame".

It’s a good touch and he has been hard of hearing for decades in the comics as a result. The comic this is drawn from handles it so well. There even an entire issue that’s in sign language because of it. Also smart that they’re bringing in Echo to play off of this. The closest I have to knowing a second language is ASL, and working in a bar it’s surprising how often I end up using it.

@@babytoshiro7014 my impression when I read Young Avengers was that they were all teenagers as well, yes… I didn’t say she was the leader, just that she seemed more experienced than the others. Technically it was “Iron Lad” who brought them together (an amalgam of Iron Man and Vision, who’s true identity I won’t spoil, but is another character recently introduced). The character who becomes Patriot was in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier - though, again, it would be spoilers to reveal his secret - its a fun series, and worth reading on Marvel Unlimited.

@thefirstbourne149

In their defense, Eternals probably didn’t really do with that right. At least, character-wise, although you may not like the CGI battle at the end, Shang Chi was about this individual who tried to deal with past trauma. Not to mention, he also had grief. It wasn’t just him doing martial arts, it wasn’t just people trying to act like Jackie Chan. Eternals did sorta go so much for the dramatic style, that they forgot to be engaging. Same sort of problem went for a captain Marvel, except they were trying to be ambitious this time.
@JakeTylenol
@JakeTylenol 3 жыл бұрын
@@thefirstbourne149 I heavily disagree, not with the Shang Chi part itself, but the implication (based off your statement) that the Eternals did not (although you’re right about Captain Marvel). people forget the point of the Eternals is that they’re gods trying to be humans which is what was different. Changing that to being your everyday person would cheapen that and I think that’s what people really fail to understand about the movie. You don’t have to relate to them to like them, they still go through human enough experiences. Sprite can be a transgender allegory as she’s trapped in a body she doesn’t want and it fruturates her. To the point she’d rather let the world die so she can start over if it means she can stop being jealous of something she can’t have. Kingo and Icarus are torn between their families and their religions, another relatable aspect many people go through. If your god, whom you know exists, told you to kill everyone could you do it? Also Kingo is a director as well who loves story telling, which to me (as a story writer) made him the coolest. Circe is just an everyday woman who just loves experiencing life and has a phone addiction, Gilgamesh dealing with Thena’s Alzheimer’s, something people go through in real life and how that takes a huge toll on people. Thena and Druig fall through the cracks, but, hell, these characters have plenty of heart and personality, people just couldn’t get around the fact they weren’t cracking wisecracks and doing traditional MCU humor or Thor 3 humor and I think that’s as far as it goes. The Eternals did have the human element that every MCU movie has, people just couldn’t see it for what it was because the movie portrayed it differently. That’s my take

The LARP scene in episode 2 was brilliant. Hilarious with a touch of empathy to set it off with Grills' plead to allow him to win as that's the closest him being a hero. Clint's incessant plead to kill him was hilarious. There is even a deleted scene following the announcement of "burning the corpse." Clint at a stake with the role players acting out a fire around him, while he calmly utters, "kill me....am I dead yet?" That should've been included.

The biggest thing about Hawkeye, is that, while he's not at all a powerful Avenger, he's quite useful. His (and Nat's) skills are invaluable in a wide variety of situations. I think both could've benefited the most from a custom Stark suit for each to enhance their latent skills, but whatever. . He's also the "heart" of the Avengers. He's the one who keeps them grounded, keeps them focused. "You step through that door, you're an Avenger." The impact he's had is a lot more broad and deep than people realize. We've also seen what happened when that heart was broken. . Clint very probably is as worthy to pick up Mjolnir as Thor or Cap. They've both done some pretty awful things, as well (not "murdering dozens of criminals" awful...but bad enough, and for bad reasons). The reason they can lift it and no one else can, is because they're honest with themselves about who they are. They don't think they're something they're not, and don't ignore what they really are, even when it's unpleasant. Clint can't lift the hammer because he sincerely believes he's not worthy. He thinks he's not important, not special, not..."good enough". He sees himself as the one who does evil things to make a good world. The hammer knows that's not the truth, and so it forbids him from using it. . The hammer doesn't actually give a flying fuck about good or evil. All it cares about is that you're honest with yourself, and that you give respect where it's properly due, in all cases. Doesn't matter who or what you love or hate, or why, whether you're acting for noble, moral reasons, or out of petty spite. What matters is that you're fully true to yourself, and that you show respect where it's due, even in those you're about to kill.

I actually did run into some people at a park and I wanted in. If you find the right crowd its less of a joke than the movies make it out to be. I got shield bashed so hard it nearly took the fight out of me. It doesn't matter if a stick is covered in foam. If its got metal in the inside it will hurt a little to be hit by. After I signed the waiver I was able to spar with people bigger than me and it was actually a little scary. To be honest I had fun. I learned things about fighting I never knew. While the goal was just fun I had no idea that the playfighting was a bigger deal than I thought. I definitely recommend it. I also don't recommend it. I met someone there that got hit so hard she was partially blind. She didn't care she still showed up for every meeting she could.

I knew, Fiegie pretty much said it, Phase 4 is about building up to the new faces. It was obvious this is Kate Bishops Origin as Black Widow was Yelenas Origin. If you accept every movie/show in Phase 4/5 may be about passing the baton then you'll "get" it better.

They're getting cheaper actors and doing diversity quotas. I can buy Haylie as Hawkeye but the story has to be good and this is a snooze.

Anyone else who watched this feel that it is less the "Hawkeye show" and more "The show Hawkeye is in"? To be honest it felt he was the sidekick, like he was Vision in WandaVision. Yeah Vision was IN it but it was really Wanda's story where the show centered around Wanda for the vast majority of the time. In the case Kate Bishop.

It's apparent which comic book version they are following here. I actually prefer the earlier version that went out and founded and led the West Coast Avengers. I keep waiting for the MCU to show respect to this character and let him be the leader that he was back then.

after having seen the first two episodes..and comparing the experience and the feels I got from it to the ones I got from the show's earlier trailers... I think marvel should've made this into a movie and Black Widow as a disney+ miniseries..with a much grittier and correct tone and more serious story. what i got from the first two episodes feels like stuff that could've been covered in and suit better in a 2-hour movie.

I liked it. 👍🏽 When you think about it, Hawkeye's strength has been that he's a great dad ( the only one in the MCU might I add 😏) and mentor and it seems that the show will capitalize on that. Plus how someone who did something terrible will deal with their past coming to bite them. He wasn't like Bucky. He was totally aware on conscious the whole time.

Hear me out y'all. I love both Marvel and DC. I'm a comicbook geek. I love the MCU and The SnyderVerse. For me Phase 4 has been weak. Shang chi, Black widow, wandavision, were trash imo I'm mixed on loki. I'm loving Hawkeye, and I liked FATWAS. But I have a issue with Hawkeye. The issue I have is that why did they market the show as Clint Barton's story and kate being the supporting character in the trailer. But Then have Kate Bishop be the main character and clint as the side character in the actual show. For me they should have Created a Kate Bishop show instead and I would have had no issue. It should have been Called. "Marvel's Kate Bishop" I still love the show. I just wish this show was more focus on Hawkeye's story. This show is a 9/10 so far.

I'm diggin' Hawkeye, it's a first chance we get to see how regular non powered down-to-earth people live in the MCU. I'm getting a real Die Hard Christmasy vibe from this, I'm really enjoying the performances from Jeremy Renner and Hayley Atwell as Kate Bishop, they have a great chemistry, laced with good humour. Kate Bishop's mum and her boyfriend seem really Shady, the Tracksuit Mafia, are my favourite, I'd love to see them, get their own spinoff series, things are shaping up nicely, I'm looking forward to what coming next! 😎👌💯

Fraction’s popular Hawkeye comic book run bounces back between both of Kate and Clint, and both go by Hawkeye. Whedon’s Marvel influence pretty much shredded most of Clint’s back story and characterization, and made it impossible to give him most of that run’s set up, so moving most of the set up to Kate made a decent compromise. As a huge fan of that run, I’m pretty happy with how they’re adapting it, but I do miss trashfire himbo Clint.
