Just Saw Eternals so Heres My Honest thoughts on it. Pros: Looked AMAZING, ABSOLUTELY LOVED Angelina Jolie Fav character in the film, The Deaf Girl Speedster, & Gilgamesh. Cons: 40 minutes into the film & I rarely do this but I had to get up walk around the theater lobby for 2-3 minutes cause I kept dozing off during the film. as a 2 hour 37 minute film It was Too Long imo, A lot of the pacing & scenes dragged & didnt grab/keep my attention, Dozed off a few times later on & I was indifferent to most characters. I was never invested in the comics for eternals that much either & I feel the reason I had such a negative time this morning watching it was because majority of it didnt grab me & I was Bored through most of it. If a film is terrible you can laugh at how bad it is. When a film is Alright & just isnt grabbing you it just feels like you're stuck. For that it was just a Low Rental for me personally

Sigh...so I just went to see The Eternals yesterday and well...sigh. I am not a comic book person, I watch Marvel movies because they are generally epic, entertaining and interesting. And I've watched enough of them to be able to understand some of the relations to what supposed to be happening in this movie. And yet: 1) I spent most of this movie just asking myself "What is the plot?". Yes I understood the opening crawl description. Yes I understood where it seemed to be/supposed to be going. But for so long it just felt like it was going...nowhere. Yes, i know you needed to establish context and backstory. But it seemed like they spent too long on it, it was too heavy-handed, too slow, and often I think not even the most important or pertinent moments were the ones highlighted. The love story between Ikaris and Sersi felt forced, even after they took the time to show us whole centuries of romance and a big wedding. Even the sex scene felt kinda tacked on and gratuitous...and I am NOT one to complain about seeing more naked Richard Madden AT ALL. The whole thing felt very unbalanced. I think the whole "Well people who don't read the comics..." excuse doesn't really hold weight. Good storytelling WINS EVERYTIME. 2) Too much of characters looking off into the middle distance with pained expressions standing arranged like an old school album cover AND too much of characters looking on triumphantly after victory in a perfectly arranged staggered line like they're about to walk in slow motion. 3) I found Sersi to be quite flat and boring. For someone who is supposed to emerge as the main saviour and gatherer of everyone and who was entrusted by Ajak with this role I was expecting more. Even if you want to say, well she was a reluctant hero at first, even those usually still have some qualities to be molded in the right direction-- clear charisma, leadership skills, attitude....SOMETHING. 4) You really had Ikaris LITERALLY fly into the sun? REALLYYYYYYYYY?????????? Jeez. Was that supposed to be like a wink-wink breaking the fourth wall Greek mythology moment? Cause.... 5) Angelina Jolie. You have ANGELINA JOLIE in your cast. The person probably closest to an actual freakin goddess in the whole cast. And yes so she has a gorgeous costume and hair, great weapons and fighting skills and some actual VIBE thank God. But then spends half the film in some kind of traumatized, mental health black hole and, I just couldn't. I remember thinking at one point (I think when she was in the forest cowering behind a tree and I was just getting fed-up) that she would be more effective if she were actually Lara Croft in this movie. Like THAT cross-pollination of a completely unrelated universe would actually be more believable, useful and straight up FUN. 6) I'm tired of movie monsters. I think many of us are. They're all the same. Big, screamy, loud, strangely proportioned. I want some sleek, cunning, stealthy ones. And why does no one seem to have a proportional reaction to them? Everyone is just quite casual--I suppose the Eternals are accustomed to Deviants after centuries or whatever, but when they showed up in the city I kept scanning the streets like...is no one else seeing this? 7) I'm tired of all the pseudo-deep agonized philosophizing about humanity and if they should interfere and what we are and are not capable of, our faults and our strengths. I suppose to more advanced species we really must seem like the poor hopeless idiot children of the universe but honestly... 8) Diversity like everything MUST serve plot, MUST serve character, MUST serve story. Just checking off lists because we can is not really the best approach. 9) Way too much exposition. Soliloquy after soliloquy, talking and talking and talking to explain everything and get us up to speed. Surely there are more elegant and interesting ways to convey this information while moving the story forward. This movie was absolutely visually breathtaking and should have swept the audience up in a riveting, immersive, soul-searching, fun adventure. Instead it kind of weakly dragged us through history collecting emotional debris along the way. Sigh.

Eternals may have been a better movie if the screenplay focused a bit more on Thena, Gilgamesh, Sprite, and that mind control guy. Instead we got that love triangle between Sersi, Ikaris, and Black Knight, which no one really cared about, because none of those characters were fully developed. Especially Sprite could've been a really compelling character, being that her story is the most heart wrenching. And her motivation is quite relatable. Her and the mind control guy (and I guess the gay inventor dude) were the most human of the Eternals.

When people have to continuously defend Marvel movies for being mediocre, then they are obviously headed in the wrong direction. The movies are supposed to be getting better. It isn’t unreasonable for MCU fans to expect a better product from a studio after making 25 movies. The goal isn’t to find flashier ways to make mediocrity and fall into the same traps laid upon another studio years ago.
@singingchef233 жыл бұрын
No, because Marvels mediocre is better than most of what's out. If you made most of their worst titles "generic film" they would still be entertaining. The expectations Marvel set at the apex arent realistic, most only do this once. It's called the Nolan effect, Nolan have never made a bad movie, but the later ones people criticize get mixed reviews. The more I think about it, the more I like it. So while I get the divisive reactions, I don’t think it deserves the hate it’s getting from critics and it’s nowhere near being the worst in the MCU. It ain’t Thor 2, Iron Man 2, Incredible Hulk, Captain Marvel, Ant Man and the Wasp, or Age of Ultron. I would have preferred if the film went into more ancient lore. Start with John Snow who works for shield. HIs whole thing is he is working with discovering other beings of power, because if Thor is a thing, why not other gods from our past. Then he discovers Ceri and the other Eternals. Their whole thing is to keep ancient beasts like minotaurs and three head doggos at bay, to protect humanity. And then the twist is they are not here to protect humanity, but to get it ripe for the celestials... There can be flashbacks where you show the gods being bad and immoral, but then change their minds slowly, with more time to help humanity. Then eventually Thanos comes and they want to interfere and the celestial stops them...

That’s okay though. Marvels been trying new things and I’d rather they do that then stick to the same formula for this next phase.

Add long as there aren't any boner jokes in Eternals, I'll be down to watch it.

Marvel fans were not split on Wanda Vision. The overwhelming majority liked it. That being said, the ending was trash

@@MarsVee123 yes they were. Many stopped watching after the first half of the show. I particularly enjoyed it but I know many fans that disliked it.

The comic even goes even further with religious themes. When the Deviants conquered the world the Celestials came back and flooded the Earth while the Eternals saved everyone they could from drown. That’s where Noah’s Ark came from (Marvel wise)

I’ve been prepared to go in with low expectations for a month now. Maybe I’ll like it then🤷♂️ I think it’ll be a great visual movie but in terms of everything else, I’m not sure if I’ll like it.
