I was 40 Commando down south. Still have mine. Good bits of kit. Issued on Canberra. BTW your videos are brilliant.

No boots are 100% waterproof unless they are made of rubber in which case sweat causes as much problem as water ingress. I wore goretex lined boots and found they just caused my feet to sweat. In the end I preferred leather boots which could be polished or treated with snow seal.

I bought a pair of these in 84. Excellent but heavy compared to modern boots. 3/4 steel shank so good for strap on crampons and well sprung for walking. I still have mine but they need resoled again.

Sandals are more waterproof than DMS,even from new in camp they didn't last long.Only thing was they broke in easily if you soaked them and wore them wet for an afternoon.Wish these were available in 80's on issue.

Had to empty a locker of a bloke who went AWOL in 45 Cdo in '87 and he'd left a pair of these in his locker.

it was issued to any of the commando unit that did mountain and artic warfare training and issued well before the Falklands Conflict

Good to know, cheers. I have seen photos of RM mountaineering instructors up in Scotland in the early '70s wearing something similar, from what you're saying they were probably one and the same.

The same Paul Hannon, the illustrator? Think he did artwork for Osprey books on the Royal Marines and Argentine forces in the Falklands.

Great video . Red laces?

Indeed so. Something shared with the Galibier boots which might have added to the confusion.

Laces seems pink in my screen. It distracted me throughout the entire video.

If you spend 24/7 yomping across a giant bog there's no boot made that'll keep you dry, better boots just delay the inevitable
