"The future is clear. It's going to fall apart" Very optimistic words there Miyazaki.
@aldyhabibie97172 жыл бұрын
He is a very pessimistic person, always has been. Its ok that Ghibli fall apart, its inevitable. Life and death are not of two opposite side because death is part of life itself. Its only natural that every journey will come to its end. Now when Ghibli finally falls, I'm sure we can visit the Ghibli museum in japan later on and see the works that has been immortalized in the hearts of their audience. But let's also hope that one day a new seed came to bloom and carry the torch of what Ghibli once was.

It is realistic. Nothing lasts forever. Nothing should last forever. Life, our whole universe even, is impermanent. Someday, you will die. Someday, all your ideas and dreams of the future will die. It is only natural. Nothing pessimistic about admitting the end is near. Miyazaki has clearly lived a full life. He is also not blinded by nostalgia, in terms of modern animation. If Ghibli does not die with him, it will become something else. And that new thing will begin to die.

Fun fact about the name "Studio Ghibli": "Ghibli" is the name that Italian pilots, during WW2, gave to a hot wind from Sahara desert and the same name was also put to the aircrafts that soldiers used for recognition. Ayao Miyazaki grew up in a family that used to create engines for vehicles during WW2 and he always loved aircrafts a lot, not because he was interested in war, (like many kids are nowadays) but he loved the idea of flying high in the sky and be free. (And because of this reason we get to see a lot of aircrafts in his films) That's a characteristic that united him with Caproni, an Italian aircraft designer that we get to see in one of his most famous films, "The wind Rises" . So, why did Miyazaki became an animator and not a pilot? The answer is very simple and sad at the same time. Miyazaki was a myopic, so he had to give up on his dream. Then he started working as an employee and when he created the Studio, he gave it the name Ghibli for the correlation to the name of the wind, because he wanted to bring a breath of fresh air on Japanese animation. Romantic, isn't it? I think he has succeeded in its intent. I hope you guys found this useful and since English isn't my first language, tell me if there are any errors :D

When he starts smiling after saying Ghibli‘s name had no real meaning and just a derivative from a plane, I think he didn’t tell the truth, I think trough his films we learned his inspirations are planes, flying and freedom, and so is Ghibli. He offered us pure entertainment of beautiful worlds that are all connected to ours. Apart from being a master storyteller he also never forgot to teach the audience, about nature, society, greed, and the importance of friendship and love..

@@oddedd7755 what you just said is crucial. Because I think Miyazaki knows exactly what he is doing. You just have not reached that storyteller level, which is totally fine! This is literally the meaning behind The Boy and The Heron except that in the movie Miyazaki realizes that change does not have to be bad. "Build your own tower" are the last words of the old wizard to Mahito and I think that mirrors Miya talking to the new generation of Ghibli creators :')

Or, if change does come in a bad form, that's still okay. As he says here it is inevitable, so we have to take what we get and just find the beauty.

There should be a word for when we mourn someone/something that isn't yet dead. Watching The Boy and The Heron made me realise that I was basically doing this at the back of my mind... when the great grand uncle told Mahito to go and build his own world ("make it peaceful, beautiful, bountiful") I felt like we were hearing Miyazaki's parting wishes for the future generations - not just animators, but everyone. And then I realised I was already sad about the pending end of a studio and a storyteller who has given us so, so much.

Am I the only one who sees the reference to his last movie? Where the old wizard doesn't find a successor for his (ghibli) empire, and so his own world collapses. It really made me sad
@yiancha6 ай бұрын
I think there is a silver lining.. even though the "perfect world" collapses, it is fine.. because the real world with its suffering is still worth while and I think with the last movie Miyazaki comes to terms with it :)

YES! FOR SURE and I have not seen enough people talking bout this! But I actually think that in the movie Miyazaki comfronts this old fear he has and accepts that creations are meant for change. Ghibli may just be a name to you Miyazaki-san, but you absolutely are not letting it fall apart no matter how old you get Welcome back once more, one of the gods of animation and storytelling Hayao Miyazaki; looks like it’s time to wake up all these studios in the US and give them a good kick in the pants
Throughout his life as a creator, he has faced two self-contradictions. One is his own existence as an anti-war person who admires airplanes as weapons of war and depicts them in a beautiful and cool way. The other is that he made his films in the hope of bringing children into contact with nature, but instead he has created a social phenomenon in which children repeatedly watch his films in their rooms. These are the reasons for his "cursed dream" and his introspection. He also lost so many friends when he became an animator-turned-director that he declared he would never do it again. But he was hooked. His history of abandonment toward his son Goro is also an important part of his artistry and self-contradiction. He has despised his family, telling himself that this is a film for his son. (I'm not criticizing this personally...) No human being can be perfect. But there are those who run away from that fact and those who face it head on. Miyazaki is the latter, and I think that is why his films are more beautiful. Sorry for such a long comment, but I hope that it will help non-Japanese friends who love Miyazaki's animation to know about its background:)

'Mono no aware (物の哀れ), literally "the pathos of things", and also translated as "an empathy toward things", or "a sensitivity to ephemera", is a Japanese idiom for the awareness of impermanence (無常, mujō), or transience of things, and both a transient gentle sadness (or wistfulness) at their passing as well as a longer, deeper gentle sadness about this state being the reality of life.' en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mono_no_aware
