Great video !!! Your videos helped us choose what we just purchased. We just bought a 2023 White Hawk 29RL, we love it !! We had a 2005 Eagle 308 FBS that we bought new, and just put it on a permanent site as a vacation place at the shore. We have shared your youtube channel with our family and friends. And just 2 weeks ago, one of my long time friends purchased his first travel trailer. it is a leftover 2020 Jay Flight 295BHS. Thier maiden voyage will be a long weekend beginning on May 5th. Keep up the great work !!!

Great walkthrough/comparison. I love videos like this. It is very helpful for us that are still in the beginning stages of learning so when the time comes we can help make our own informed decision on what kind of camper we would be best suited for. I would love to see a video about the pros and cons of metal skin vs fiberglass. It looks like if you really wanted it even the Jay Flight can be ordered in fiberglass and I'm wondering what the potential advantages are and whether or not purchasing one (any camper with fiberglass) over the other for longevity would make a difference if proper maintenance and storage were applied to the camper. Also, I'm not necessarily afraid of buying a stick and tin camper but there is definitely a hesitation when you hear wood framing just for the fact that anytime rotting has occurred we assume that it wouldn't have occurred if it was an aluminum framed camper. Assuming again that proper maintenance and storage has taken place is this something buyers should consider when buying in today's market? Based on Haylett carrying both brands I would think not but I would love to hear or see your take on these topics.
@JoshtheRVNerd
@JoshtheRVNerd 3 жыл бұрын
Proper upkeep is something that affects any type of trailer. Common misconception it somehow matters more on a stick and tin camper vs. laminated. Frankly.. leaks are more costly to repair on laminated vs. conventional campers. I have a pretty healthy video covering this and more here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iGmldmWcbceXa9E

Went with the little guy 2017 Whitehawk 23MRB primarily for the weight and towing stability. My Grand Cherokee tows it with ease and the stability axles really help. My brother “had” a stick and tin trailer and we both went through the hail storm a couple years ago. His was totaled and my Whitehawk had no damage. Not sure if the laminated construction was the difference but I was shocked with the difference in damage and we live less than a mile apart.

The skin construction differences were 100% the difference there. That fiberglass skinned jay flight option is popular in hail country for this very reason.

Great comparison vid! Nice breakout of the diffs. Props for the side view tech. Note to self, Get That! Once again, we hear about the Jayco Magnum Truss System. When I need to haul cinder blocks blocks with my Travel Trailer, [as seen on Jayco construction video] I know which unit to get. Seriously though Jayco - Whitehawk, Lance and ORV were the finalists in our Trailer search. ORV won in part for their custom trailer frames built to floor-plan by ORV. Love the lingo "Stick & Tin" "Tow & Go" my fave "Wiggle Jiggle". Great callout on trailer movement, Bounce Porpoising, Sway. I looked hard at wide stance. I wanted to reduce Pitch Yaw and Roll. The wide stance covers Pitch and Yaw reduction but not roll. ORV covers Pitch and roll with shocks my Curt WD covers yaw with significant sway resistance. As always, love your style and I almost always learn something new.

I'm in the same boat but with the Jayflight. We don't travel as much. We like to stay in a general area for a few weeks or a few months if we like it. Usually based on weather. With that said we spend a lot of time living inside the RV and really love it. Have had no issues at all and it feels very comfortable with a family of 4. Very well made in and out. We got the 28BHS. Kids had to have to bunk beds. 🤣 We tow it with my 99' F-350 Super Duty on 37" with a 6 inch lift. (Yeah it's weird) Haven't had any problems towing it fully loaded. PS. Actually writing this sitting in the RV. My wife abd I love it more than our house.

We just got our first Travel Trailer; the 2021 White Hawk 24mbh and I can tell you at 24 degrees Fahrenheit with the electric fireplace on high the camper stays toasty without the furnace kicking in. The furnace will heat it up in about 30 minutes. After that the furnace may have come on one more time that night. The bathroom is cold if you leave the door closed but the cold package is good enough where the fireplace alone keeps it warm in the trailer. In fact the cold package seems like it works so well that the furnace will burn you out of there if you have it turned too high. We set it to 67 and had the fireplace on and the temperature inside stayed around 73.

@JoshtheRVNerd
@JoshtheRVNerd 3 жыл бұрын
@@l.alanwild5468 There's no "clean" way to do that as there's not necessarily always a linear progression. Sometimes you have things that overlap or are built for different purposes in a somewhat side-by-side fashion. For instance in most ways the Jay Flight offers a superior equipment package to something like a Jay Feather, but people see fiberglass skin on the Jay Feather and assume it's "above" the Jay Flight In some ways it is. In some it's not. Usually once you get into laminated RVs the "progression" becomes a little more clear, but even then ... not always

You’ve helped me narrow my decision as to what I’m going to buy. It will be a towable either Cougar, White Hawk or Flagstaff. No decision on floor plan but I need it to be towed by a 2022 non 4 wheel drive V8 5.0 F150. Are there specific floor plans you would suggest? I prefer the bedroom up front with either a walk through bathroom and rear kitchen and living room with a fireplace. With all of that said, one addition I would like to see is price point on what your reviewing. I’m not asking for an exact price just a price range. I think other viewers may find this helpful.

@JoshtheRVNerd

I was *hugely* resistant to these 12v fridges for 2-3 years. I wasn't familiar with them and they felt "scary" basically Then, we actually got our hands on them and did some testing. We were blown away with how much faster they cooled + the extra storage and travel-friendly-function of the fridge & became fans quickly. The service records have been good & it's definitely something we enjoy having her enow. Rockwood is about the only brand I've seen that force-packages a solar setup with their 12v fridges. Jayco models are all roof-solar-ready standard from the factory so you can build your own solar package -- plus they have their own factory solar option if you're interested.

I'll make a feather vs. white hawk when I can actually keep both of them in stock long enough. To do it properly you really need to start with feather, and show where the white hawk goes beyond, similar to how we did a video starting with SLX, then showing how Jay Flight goes to the next level. Feather USED To be a lot more like a Jay Flight SLX. Now it's sort of "between" the SLX and Jay Flight. Basically, the entire jayco laminated lineup starts with Jay Feather. Then Think of White Hawk as the "Jay Feather Plus" or "Premium" series Then into Eagle HT, eagle, then FW's

If comparing similar floor plans, what is the weight difference between the two?
@JoshtheRVNerd
@JoshtheRVNerd 3 жыл бұрын
Not a great deal. The White Hawk has "bulked up" over the years as it transitioned from a true Ultralite to something I think of as an "Ultralite Plus" -- sort of like a Cougar. You'll save a few hundred pounds on a White Hawk The Jay Feather has really established itself as the light weight member of the Jayco Family

One item I'm not sure I would want is the front windshield. Having a window that large over the bed could let in a lot of cold.
@JoshtheRVNerd
@JoshtheRVNerd 3 жыл бұрын
That's absolutely true and not something most folks tend to consider. Stuffing pillows into it during the colder months is certainly an option, but you'll want to make sure you're not trapping condensation up there too

@@JoshtheRVNerd I love that front window! I’m a wee bit claustrophobic, so it helps me. I lay there at night and watch the stars. It is well insulated.

Does the base change if you order a King or is it as simple as getting a queen and just buying a King mattress? Like Whitehawk better 🙂
@JoshtheRVNerd
@JoshtheRVNerd 2 жыл бұрын
In a Jay Flight the cabinets beside the bed are always sized for a king regardless of which bed is installed. I believe the bed base is queen sized. The decking is really all the changes. In a white hawk the bedroom cabinet sizes change based on whether you get a king or queen bed. I think even then, though, the base is still a queen size. But if you get a white hawk with a queen and try to put a king in it, then the stand/wardrobes beside the bed may not allow a wider mattress

So is this the same as comparing a Jay Feather and a SLX?
@JoshtheRVNerd
@JoshtheRVNerd 3 жыл бұрын
Haylett RV Reviews, News, & More • 17 seconds ago I'll make a feather vs. white hawk when I can actually keep both of them in stock long enough.

Hi Josh- what is the difference between jay flight and jay feather?
@JoshtheRVNerd
@JoshtheRVNerd 2 жыл бұрын
Here's some quick points: * Flight = Conventional construction with wood studded walls. Feather features laminated walls (now with azdel!) * Flights = Taller Interior, True Queen Beds, Bigger Fridge There are a bunch of finer details but those are the "big hitter" items. It's mostly construction and size The Jay Feather's interior sort of falls between an SLX model and a full "Jay Flight" While the White Hawk is the big brother to the Jay Feather and has the bigger beds/fridge of a "Full Flight"

What size truck would I need for a White Hawk? 1/2 ton? 3/4 ton?
@JoshtheRVNerd

Depends on the model. SOME are ½ ton towable for more capable half-tons, but you'd never regret having a 3/4 ton Anything more than a single slide is almost always going to be a 3/4 ton suggestion from us

I found it's recommended to speak at an 8th grade level while you need to write at only a 5th grade level to effectively communicate with the largest number of people. I am also a really down to earth guy who focuses on being effective first and flowery second. It all kind of lined up with our presentations.
