I actually had a sped teacher that tried to get me to think like this. Like many teens, I went through nearly every phase under the sun and she would try to convince me that I had to dress “normally” and “appropriately” (basically showing no personality whatsoever) lest I get made fun of. The thing is when I tried to comply, it made me so uncomfortable and self conscious, that I ended up becoming super depressed and self loathing. I would like to reiterate that I was not the only adolescent wearing dark colors one day, pastels the next, and weeb swag the third day. I wasn’t the only one experimenting with my looks. The fruit one made me cringe so hard, and that was largely because I myself don't eat most fruits because of their textures. I've tried a lot of different fruits over the years to try and see if I could get myself used to the textures and I've never been successful. However, I have never made such a fuss over even the ones I hated the most like she did in that video. I take a bite, i grimace, and I spit it out. There's no gagging or over the top of the top theatrics, and I'm 90% sure that woman was faking the texture revulsion, which is insulting to those of us who actually have an issue with that.

The girl complaining about her parents being active in her life and calling them narcissist is a huge clue that she has no idea what a real narcissistic parent is. A narcissist wouldn't come at all, or would make excuses as to why they didn't show or can't come... narcissist has become a buzz word and it pisses me off- because it's truly an epidemic. Her parents- are not it... I can only hope she was being sarcastic... but probably not.
@juvnjuvn28186 ай бұрын
my guess is that her parents were on the overbearing side - never letting her go to places (at appropriate distance of course) on her own, having some things like sports without her parents being there, things like that. and yeah you need to do some things on your own as you grow up to build skills and independence. how has that anything to do with narcissism though...

not exactly true; narcissists and abusers come in all shapes and sizes and controlling every little aspect of your life (showing up to every single thing where otherwise you would've had autonomy, not allowing you to walk a quarter mile to a friends house but instead have to be driven there so they can tell you no and control your friendships, etc etc.) I don't feel like this person constituted their complaint very well (and could absolutely have been lying) but dismissing it outright because it doesn't fit *your* narcissist/abuser description is wrong.

Yes, thank you! My father (a single parent) is a huge narcissist and he never really cared or asked what I’ve done or how I’m doing, unless it showed a threat to him in any way, and instead of helping with that issue, he would just blame it on me and have me as a child handle it on my own. Though, funny thing, once I left to go on with my own life, he would constantly text me, asking me what I’m doing etc., which I just found weird and strange. It’s truly stressful to grow up with a narcissist, and for someone to incorrectly call their parents who actually showed they cared and were there for them a narcissist for being a parent, is just disgusting and annoying.

5:00 I’ve noticed a lot of people saying it’s good the parents actually want to be there. But as someone who has a narcissistic parent I can guarantee that while it is good they WANT to show up. It soon becomes clear that they don’t WANT you to be alone. They hover over your shoulder and constantly try taking control of your life. They want to show up not for support, but so they know your every move. They want to overwhelm you constantly with their presence JUST so you still know THEY are the ones in power, not you. Let’s say your going to a graduation, they will (if they feel threatened by the chance of losing power over you) threaten you with harmful “consequences”. For example: They threaten to bring a weapon and attack others. You get terrified of what they might do you can’t even stop them from showing up because whenever you ask someone with authority over who to invite (ex. The host of an event ) you get hit with “ThEy ArE YoUr PaReNtS, yOu ShOuLd WaNt ThEm ToO sHoW uP” Anyways, this isn’t me hating or anything. And while I do agree that it should be good they show up, they 90% of the time DONT have good intentions and just “want to be there for you!” Because they really, really, REALLY, don’t. (This however is just my personal experience, and in NO MEANS… does this girl have any relation to this feeling whatsoever. So basically having a narcissist show up is/can be (narcissistics actions or tactic are carried) like what your mom did getting pissy that showing up was inconvenience for her but like every single time. My personal experience narcissism is my mom would never show up to any event because it didn't benefit her. Her narcissism or myself made it so showing up didn't give her any positive benefits so she didn't. except for the few which similar to you she got upset because it was an inconvenience for her. This persons narcissistic parent showed up to everything because it did benefit them. This obviously just like with the poster is only part of having a narcissist parent as they do way more shit.

Now what if I told you that parent was the same parent who showered us with presents on Christmas, took us out for dinner, dressed us up on Halloween, brought us to stores, to school, to friends houses, checked us out of school for the occasional fun trip, and leaped up to run whenever we needed to go somewhere like to buy supplies for a procrastinated school project. This is the same parent who explicitly told a child it was their fault for being SA’d, told their daughter in the hospital she just tried to kill herself for attention, forced a 10 year old to take care of a dying kitten that had its leg lopped off for a week instead of just putting the kitten down, blew a $150,000 settlement on SHEIN (mostly clothes and kitchen gadgets) when we were very poor rather than buying anything useful like a car or college funds or a PC, and let my uncle drag me away at 12 years old, screaming, to go with him to get an exorcism at his church. A lot of people think she is a sweet person. Covert, overt and narcissism in each person presents very differently. I am inclined to give people the benefit of the doubt when they claim a family member is a narcissist.
@randomwhatever54033 ай бұрын
Yeah!!! People just never seem to every single time jump to the conclusion when there is a person talking about negative experience that they're just making shit up, just never understand how narcissism works like not even the slightest. Everyone here it seems to be basing their idea of narcissism off of what would be normal for normal parents to do. They don't have the idea of what narcissism or context is! Like no this persons parent was not showing up to be a supportive parent they were showing up to be self-serving to get praise for their child's excessive and to be perceived with a good parent. But especially when an afab person talks about anything relating to mental or health conditions everyone ignores and doesn't believe them. Like yeah narcissistic parents will show up to things, but only when it benefits them and in the way they want, Even when they show up to some things they'll ignore the rest. Like my narcissistic mother took me to church every Sunday. She did take me on cheap vacations sometimes. she also never played once with me as a child because that didn't interest her. She stopped making me lunches cuz she wasn't feeling like I was giving her enough praise for it as a second grader. Sure she was there when my friendship got destroyed, she made it about herself though. She got me braces because she didn't want a kid who looked weird and then she constantly got upset because I wasn't giving enough back to her and thanking her enough that she got me braces, Nothing was ever enough to pay her back "oh but a real narcissistic mother wouldn't care about those things for their kids to begin with" is what somebody who doesn't understand would say. She showed up when she wanted to and not for the right reasons when she did. Like narcissism is complicated and everyone is so quick to dismiss and gaslight the victims of it because "it couldn't have been that bad, you're just attention seeking and ungratefull"

@randomwhatever54033 ай бұрын
Well I have total sympathy for that, that doesn't mean we should shit on people who's narcissistic parents showed up to every game. Because if you ask a narcissistic person if It would have been better for them to have their parent never show up or have them show up to everything, they would prefer to not have them show up. Narcissistic parents are not normal people. None of their even normal people think are done for normal people reasons or a normal people ways. Everything's agenda-driven and any of their seemingly selfless acts always have a price tag or reward they are getting. My narcissistic mother didn't show up to any of my events because she wouldn't have gotten anything from them because I wasn't praiseworthy and she didn't care about the satisi of being precieved as a good parent. This persons narcissistic parent showed up because they would get the praises of their child's being successful and being considered a good parent.
@MrBeetsGaming6 ай бұрын
Imagine getting on social media and seeing your grown ass offspring calling YOU a narcissist for being there for them and going to all of their events.....
@randomwhatever54033 ай бұрын
You literally don't know how narcissism works. You should really just not talk about things you don't understand at all. everyone seems to be judging this person without a single understanding of how narcissism and context works. They're basing it off of what would be the case if the person was a normal parent, completely not understanding the idea of context. Because yeah a normal parent showing up for all their kids events that would be nice That's loving and supportive, a narcissistic parent showing up for events is for completely different reasons. A narcissistic parent is showing up to get praise for looking like a good parent and for their child successes they need to make all their child's successes be about them. But every time people on the Internet see an AFab person talking about it they always go "they're just being stupid and ridiculous". the possibility of the existence of shitty parents is never seems to even cross y'all's mind. I guarantee you if this was a man saying "yeah my narcissistic mother insisted on showing up to every sporting event. Cause you know narcissistic can't let me have something just for me" it would not be in the video because we would actually believe them when they talk about their experience with narcissism.

They are not showing up for their child they are showing up for the benefit it gives them. Like a narcissist might give huge amounts of presents to their kids during Christmas. They are not doing this because they love their children. They are not doing this as a selfless act. They're not doing this without expectation of payback. They are doing this because it gives them the status of being a successful and "great" parent. Each one of those presents will come with a price tag that the child will never be able to meet. Each one of those presents will become fuel for every future argument and any behavior they did because "look how great of a parent I am"

Through a combination of my parents being away/busy and sort of being in the middle, my parents often missed my extracurriculars or events, which was very upsetting when I was young. They made the vested effort to go when they could, and I'm old enough now to understand that's just life sometimes, and to have such an appreciation for them showing up as much as they could. Hearing some one complain about their parents being there for them too much is.....strange lol?

Narcissistic are not normal people they are not like your parents. They aren't showing up for their kids they're showing up to get praise for their child successes or for being previewed as the good parent. You win there the game? It's because of them, You can't be happy and have a moment of victory, you need to actually be praising your parents and giving all the attention to your parent because to them your victory isn't on you it's actually because of the time effort and money that they've put into raising you so you don't get to have anything. And if you lose? They'll get upset and yell you and make it over there being hurt and victimized by your failure because they're actually the ones making everything in your life happen. Or more subtly they'll just leach of the successes of your victory or the feeling of being a good parent when you lose and they get to fulfill the hero complex. You don't take their kids out to ice cream after a loss because they want to comfort their kids they do it because "look at me I'm a great parent (this will also be used for fuel later to justify their other actions because look how good I am)"

So I would DIE for both of my parents to come to my games AND actually pay attention. If anything, what that person is explaining is the complete opposite of being a narcissist because they were prioritizing you and your hobby’s and need before their work, and maybe even wasting their free time and time to socialize. Before you complain about your parents caring about you. Try having parents who are on their phones when you are playing your heart out at your championship game

Some narcissistic's parents don't show up to any of their kids things because they don't give a shit. Some narcissistic parents showed up for everything because they got praise for being a good parent and for their child's successes and then name also made all their child successes be about them and their efforts. Remember ever hearing your work be something you had to praise your parent for because it wasn't that you succeeded because of your efforts but because of their support? Their parent was showing up because their narcissism they felt good getting the perception of being supportive and being controlling. I get it as another person who grew up with a narcissistic parent who didn't show up to anything that it can be kind of hard to understand someone else's experience The narcissistic parent acting differently, but verity happens. I can also have sympathy for someone who's narcissistic parent gave them expensive gifts every Christmas and get how those all came with an unspoken price tag and ego boost for the parent, Even though my parents didn't.

I believe I can do more good for the world working on my art, academics, etc. And that’s ok! I wish more people were able to evaluate parenthood, the work it takes, and just say: nah. Not for me.

When I was younger, part of me wanted children but the older I get (I’m 38), the les I want them. I’ll be a crazy cat lady and if I ever have a kid, it will be a baby goat. I also figure that if I’m ever in a better place overall then someday I could look into fostering or something.

As someone who can’t eat fruit or vegetables due to severe sensory issues but that girl over did it. Also yes I gag but I’m not like that. It’s really really hard to eat and it’s not that I don’t want to it’s that I CANT this girl over did it…

5:35 my biggest problem with the rant here is that it doesn’t take hover parents into account which are parents that are around TOO much and don’t let you have a life outside of them which may not be the situation here but feels unfair to yell at them about how some people just want their parents to show up to one thing Feels really similar to the whole “well some parents punish their kids physically” when a kid is having rights taken away like a door it may not be the same thing but it’s still wrong and abusive

9:07 this really pisses me off. I’m somebody who has major sensory issues and actually can’t handle the textures of a lot of fruits, meats, and vegetables. it’s horrible and prevents me from getting a lot of the nutrients I need, I’ve dealt with this since I was a kid. The amount of times I’ve gagged and choked on food and just felt so gross when trying my hardest to eat had made me want to cry at times. This ladys video just feels like she’s making fun of me, I cannot even describe how horrible it makes me feel.

You should talk about the really inappropriate outfits some of gen z are wearing to SCHOOL, and then getting upset for being dress coded, some of the outfits look very nice just not for school, at all😭

I have four girls (two of which have already graduated) and I agree. They want to walk into classrooms with club wear on and think it’s acceptable. Just b/c your parent at home allows it, doesn’t mean not mean it’s acceptable in public. There are some really terrible parents out there.

Having parents attend your events and pick you up is such a nice feeling that could make you cry when in your whole life, it's your nanny who does those things. My parents sometimes ARGUE on who attends an important event who needs them, and mostly for other events who don't require parents, it is just my nanny. So if you do have parents who do these things for you and willingly do so with no arguments, cherish them. Because even now as a grown teenager, my relationship with my nanny is stronger than my relationships with my parents. Love them, but my younger self was always disappointed when my parents couldn't attend an award ceremony for a competition or watch me in a performance.

This “play place” is like conditioning kids for doctors appointments, when they need to see their therapist for INNER CHILD HEALING!😭 This just looks SO boring!! 12:31

for most of my life, i've had issues when it comes to food. certain smells, textures, looks of food make my body physically react in a way that rejects it. it also means i go in and out of phases with food (mainly chicken and bread). seeing people like this at 9:17 is just sad honestly because it reminds me of all the times people have said to me and others like me 'you're being dramatic.' please stop faking real issues for attention and grow up :/ love ur videos hayley!

My mom is a narcissist, she cut me off from my dads side of the family and my dad, telling me they didn't love me or cared for me, didn't even tell me my dad was dead until the night before the funeral because she didn't want to distract me from my studies, never was there for anything i did, never was there for the things she forced me to do, i was travelling around the city in cabs on my own from when i was 6 (early 2000s so no phone, no gps, just a 6 year old and vibes) this woman was never there for anything cut me off from almost everyone in my family and my friends, i am suprised i even managed to maintain my best friend from elemtry cuz i wasnt allowed over at anyones house and the few times i was allowed to go (birthdays and such) my mom would say she would come pick me up told me to get ready then would promptly stop answering her work phone until 2 hours after the event was over then blame me for not being ready when she was available. There came a point where i stop accepting birthday invites and a point where everyone stopped trying to invite me. I wish i had that girls parents....

At this point “parenting hacks” aren’t even hacks, remember when life hacks were supposed to be things that were quick and easy that could help you if you didn’t have certain things. Like Why are you putting that bottle like it’s a hamster water tube?! 😭😭😭 that’s not only tacky but just not not right.

When that one video about parents attending multiple performances was narcissistic, that actually hurt. When I (and many other little kids) was little and doing silly school plays, beginning band, Orchestra 1, elementary choir,etc (i love music, can you tell?) I would've loved to have had someone come watch me during the noon shows, but my parents didn't have flexible work schedules at the time so it didn't happen. I'm now so happy mom watches each and every marching band and concert band show that I do. I will always cherish how proud my mom was of me and feel grateful
