i'm actually glad they didn't include the batman because it would've made the whole show about that moment. ppl celebrating just to see that cameo. instead they let the penguin character and the story stand on its own, kind of self-contained. it was good. they didn't pander to the fanboys, they stuck to the integrity of the story and what they wanted to say with it

Most people don't understand the magnitude of television and film. When crews pull off a successful story, it's a miracle! I view shows like this as miraculous because it starts as an idea in someone's mind, becomes a story-board, a script, and after a year or so, hundreds of people coordinated well enough to tell almost 8 hours worth of a story on our small screens. Btw... Same goes for revolutionary software, architecture, scientific breakthroughs, etc.

I'm amazed at how I can't see Colin Farrell in this show. It blows me away how well he acted this part. But then to see all the effects that went in to help him and the other amazing actors become their characters is just as equally amazing. I hope this show wins some awards!

Oz reminded me so much of The Hound and Tyrion from GOT until the end anyways. Two of my favorite characters played by two monster actors. Colin was fantastic playing the duality of truth and lie. It helped preserve the surprises. Using his brazenness when pushing lies. I'll play cards with him. I'll know he's bluffing when he raises his voice.

I had not planned on watching this at all and my wife picked up a subscription with something she bought on line. I watched the first episode and was hooked. I watched it all twice and it holds up so well and between the writing and the acting, it was perfect. The last three episodes should only be watched back to back for full effect. Great show and if it ends with this season, it will be perfect. I now, look forward to the next The Batman movie even though I was not as taken with that show as I was with this one.

Love this making of! Thanks for sharing! It makes me miss how good bonus features on DVDs used to be. I already appreciated this production but seeing behind the scenes made me appreciate it even more. The set design was incredible. Especially Crown Point which looks like it took huge efforts to create. The only thing that didn't work for me in Penguin was the music which wasn't nearly as iconic as it could've or should've been. I wanted to hear a theme for the Penguin on the level of Vader, Jaws, Braveheart, Luke Skywalker, Superman, Harry Potter, etc. who all have theme music that became iconic and instantly recognizable. Something so memorable and effective that people spontaneously find themselves humming it to themselves randomly for a lifetime. The Penguin score was serviceable but never reached that level. There were a couple other things that took me out of it like some instances of Oz's performance and accent that sounded exaggerated and inauthentic at times. And heavy plot armor with Oz escaping a few too many compromised circumstances completely unscathed. But besides that, this was a brilliant show. Loved being brought into its character's journeys. Vick's story and end were tragic but a necessary step for Oz to ascend to become the person he wants to be. There were a couple series where when they offed main characters it made me not want to return to the show after like with Glen in TWD and Jimmy in Boardwalk Empire. But thankfully, that's not the case with Vick in Penguin because I still want to see more. Excellent work. It took The Penguin series to let me see that desperation, despair, and disparity are such major, relevant themes in Batman. Looking forward to a 2nd season and to more series set in Gotham from the same team of creators.
