After the Montecito landslides and with the 101 freeway closure, residents had no way to make it up or down from the north, so Amtrak responded with the adding of extra passenger cars and locomotives in order to accommodate the surplus amounts of people who have no other option of transport but by train. Amtrak brought down Caltrans' only 2 P32-8BWH locomotives and a few of the Morrisson-Knudsen California Cars from up in Northern California, which are in service on the San Joaquins and Capitol Corridors. These units only spent a week in-service on Surfliners, and were only put on trains north of Los Angeles. Enjoy this short montage of the California Dash 8's plus the other variety of action commonly seen at Los Angeles's famous Union Station.
