Apocalypse now was similar, especially in its time. The Graduate is the first one I remember hitting like that. As noted by above responses, Drive and etc and for a series I recommend House

Donnie Darko was released during 9/11 and at the time was overlooked. 5 year's later i found the movie at Wal-Mart and it completely blew me away

@6Haunted-Days I wasn't a kid when it was released. You must have been a kid and it gave you nightmares sorry for your problems. Before i bought the DVD I'd never heard of it but the director gave an interview and he said at the time of its release it was LARGELY OVERLOOKED it wasn't something I made up or assumed. Came from the directors mouth. Check your facts next time
