I really love how Gerald explains things. and important things that anyone learning about video especially or photography needs to know, about the digital side of things. Good job. He speaks so fast, my intelligence has had to catch up. For a while I needed to slow down the audio to about 75% or normal speed. Occasionally I still do, but its worth it. This man has good content - no gimmicks, and is a trusted KZbinr... Definitely one of my favorite Ytubers...

Thanks for explaining the mysteries of HDMI along with your recommendations, all very helpful. The content of your video is just great. As for entertainment, what looks like a one take flawless oratory delivered with every word clear, making understandable sentences, and at pace, is a talent and rare on any topic let alone technical subjects that you tackle and coupled to art, what's not like, very entertaining. And no heavy guitar, like close quarter artillery letting go, scattering song birds never to return. Cheers very well done.

MYTH BUSTED! - great one dude. On a side note. I had 2 Amazon basics hdmi cables in a row that crapped out on me. Only used them 2 times or so and it felt like a physical issue where when I would wiggle the cable it would continually disconnect. Bought a Ugreen one and it worked great. Maybe it was a fluke but I thought it was weird that it was on 2 cables.
@geraldundone6 жыл бұрын
Interesting... I don't imagine any brand is immune to defects, but it would seem the review ratio is very high on the Amazon Basics, so that should indicate that the bad ones that you got are rare. 🤞

It's funny that you come out with this video I just purchased a 55" 4K UHD LG TV last week I had a 4-year-old HDMI cable and hooked it to my NVIDIA 1080 TI video card from my X299 computer and could NOT get 4K I could only get 1920x1080 so I was scratching my head trying to figure out why I wasn't getting true 4K After much research, I decided to purchase a New HDMI 4k cable off Amazon and guess what I now get 4K UHD from my computer to my New LG TV Thank you for this video I didn't know there was a difference in HDMI cables Regards, Rick

Great info on all points. The only issue I've ever had with HDMI cables is needing to restart my camera (SONY FS5) on two occasions to initiate the "handshake" with a funky tv monitor. I totally agree about your comments on mini and micro HDMI cables. They are unreliable for professional use in the field, and I avoid them whenever possible. I realize that some products may not have enough space to accommodate an HDMI A style connector, but most can...and should.

Glad you covered this topic, there is generally so much confusion on it. Just to add though HDMI cable quality matters a lot once you get to 15 ft and beyond. As a somewhat early adopter of a 4K HDR ecosystem I could not get a lot of cables to work without intermittent issues and dropouts. This was with a 15ft cable. Bluejeans cable was the only manufacturer that came through on delivering an issue free cable. This isn't a plug for blue jeans, but if you have never heard of them you should look them up, they are definitely not about hype or marketing. They simply provide high-quality cables at different price points. They are well known in the AV community

Will part 2 cover directional cables? When I first came across the idea it didn't make any sense, why would a digital signal need to have a specific end plugged into the source if the plugs are identical? But just recently I shot an interview and my monitor/recorder would not maintain the signal well at all until I switched around the connectors. What's going on there? It's a monoprice cable, but says nothing about the direction it needs to run in.
@pcfreakx6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for covering this. HDMI compatibility is MUCH harder than it should be. I bought some premium HDMI cables on Amazon that work fine with 4K signal with my Playstation 4 Pro but refuse to negotiate at 4K/60hz on my LG OLED with my Xbox 1X or my Nvidia shield device. I have no clue how a cable can perform so differently with different devices.
@weeardguy2 жыл бұрын
The problem is that HDMI does not only cover the cable(s), but also a rather complex handshake kind-of issue between signal-generating device and signal-processing device. If either one of them does not receive the answer it wants, it just doesn't work or gives green or purple image with good sound.

@geraldundone6 жыл бұрын
That's an interesting product. I think it probably would address several of the issues I raised. However, I'm not sure if you can access your USB with that thing on the Sony. It kinda looks like it's covered up from the pictures. Also, it might be a tad overkill for just HDMI, but I suppose it would depend on how rough the project was.
