I have a new monitor with both HDMI and VGA inputs. But the HDMI input is busted. So I need to connect HDMI from my laptop to the VGA input. Since it is a modern monitor, do you know if I need this active adapter or I can just use an HDMI to VGA cable? I don't know what happens inside the monitor, maybe it has some sort of conversion chip so it could accept a digital signal over the VGA connection.

There is no passive HDMI to VGA cables they basically work like this adapter

HDMI is digital, VGA is analog. End of the story. No active cable, no signal.

i have an HDMI to VGA cable, but when i connect it to the monitor, it doesn't receive any signal from the laptop, and the monitor goes into standby mode. Why's that? EDIT: nevermind just found out this cable is useless since it doesn't convert the signal, but i need a proper adapter. I've been scammed ahaha
