He Can’t Walk // Accident Story // Day In The Life // Squash Pie

Hey, I appreciate all of you coming along and sharing our journey with us! God doesn’t promise that life will be easy, but he promises that he will always be there with us!

Favorite Squash Pie
1 1/2 cup sugar (part white and part brown )
Three beaten, egg yolks, 
2 1/2 cups rich milk
1 1/2 to 2 cups pumpkin
Few drops lemon flavoring, (optional )
One heaping, tablespoon butter, melted, 
Three tablespoons flour 
One level teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon cloves 
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg 
1/2 teaspoon allspice.
(or 2 1/2 teaspoons of pumpkin pie spice )
Mix dry ingredients together, add the pumpkin or squash, and mix thoroughly.  carefully mixing in the rest of the wet ingredients.
This should make two medium sized pies. 
Bake at 350°  for approximately 45 minutes.
When the outside of the pie is firm and the middle is still slightly jiggly, it should be done.
Enjoy !

Get him knee pads, he can actually walk on his hands and knees. He also needs to keep up the strength in his legs by doing leg exercises. Get him taking extra calcium, vitamin d, and mushrooms. This is not the end, trust me. When I shattered my heels, ankles, and lower legs in an accident similar to Joas, I was told by my doctors that I would never walk again. I stayed strong in mind, and I kept my body strong. Once I got the casts off, I moved on to the boots, and increased my distance everyday, till I was walking several miles a day with the surgical boots. As I moved on to the surgical shoes, I kept going. I bought shoes that helped support my feet better, and only used the surgical shoes for about a week. In all, it took me about 5 months to walk without pain, and about 11 months to get running again. Stay strong Joas, you can walk again, it won't be the same, but it will happen. Believe in God and yourself, and give extra appreciation to your wife, because she is going through this ordeal alongside you.

You really shouldn’t say this kind of stuff for multiple reasons. You didn’t heal yourself, it wasn’t because you are so great and worked hard, and others fail to heal because they are weak and lazy. Medically there’s a reason you can walk. Physically there is. Having a positive attitude does affect some aspects of recovery but not bones and not nerve damage and not blood vessel and tissue. Every body and every injury is different, it wasn’t your efforts. Also, I sincerely hope you aren’t the type to blame people who don’t stay positive…

I'm glad you have overcome such an ordeal. I know what you mean by keeping up the strength in your legs. My sister was hit by a car when she was 17, which really missed up her knees. The doctor told her her would never walk again. However, she paid no attention to him. She kept exercising her knee. She's 73 now and still walks with no limp.

My husband broke both his feet while in the Army years ago... 5 yrs ago he had to have surgery on both them to put titanium implants in two of his toes cause the bones where crush so now after 6 feet surgeries he is doing great.... But I to was like u, Sister It was so hard to watch my husband have to go thru pain so much .... But to God be the Glory you hang on Sister .... I'm praying daily for you and your family.... I also know how quick your life can change. Back in June I was playing with our family dog and got knocked down. I couldn’t walk. I broke the top of my tibia bone. I spent two months in a full leg brace and in a wheelchair; two months in a hinged knee brace while on crutches and just this week I’ve been cleared to go back to my normal routine. My summer was definitely not what I planned but God helped me get through it as I know he will with you. Praying for healing and patience for you both. God can indeed perform miracles. May God give the extra strength as you walk beside your husband during this time when he is laid up from his fall. My husband fell 8 ft. off a load of lumber when we were trucking. He broke his one wrist and the one leg, with the leg break going down the leg in a curve rather than across. His leg was in a cast from the foot clear up to his waist and was like that for 3 months. We had a friend drive our semi, which helped to meet our semi payments (as we had just bought a brand new semi (6 months before) and then the church family brought meals in for a while, which greatly encouraged us!!! Yes God can heal and may He heal Joas's heels quickly after his surgery!!! Praying for you all!!!

Two of my sons work at an historic 1880’s farm located in a museum in our area. Last fall they brought me home a Hubbard squash, which I cooked and froze because I don’t have a pressure canner. It made beautiful pies! Praying Joash will heal quickly and be whole.

I pray Joas has a quick and complete recovery and am grateful that there can most likely be a recovery for Joas! Even though it may take a long time. We each deal with our own levels of difficulty in life. For us it was when my husband had an accident 2 1/2 years into our marriage and was paralyzed. It’s so hard to trust in God when so many bad things happen. My husband was injured in the military. Run over by a 45,000 lb vehicle. He had and had a lot of injuries. It’s so hard without good family, can’t afford a home, dealing with pain. My husband still has a care free attitude but I dunno, why does God let so many suffer? I still serve Him, life just never gets better for many and so it’s hard. Anyway, praying Joas heals and doesn’t have residual pain.

My husband had loads of injuries, similar foot injuries, his foot looked like a puzzle that just came out of the box. My advice, for when he can wear socks, get very loose socks that are very cushiony and that way he can double layer his socks. He probably will have lasting pain and coldness. Priscilla, I understand how you feel with Joas's accident. On our son's 11th birthday my husband had taken him for a mountain bike ride which they had done many times. My husband hit a patch of soft sand and it was over. Long story short he broke his hip and had to have surgery that night. Surgery was successful and recovery went well, but then we discovered just a few months later that he was going to need a complete hip replacement because the hip ball joint had basically died, wasn't getting blood flow All is good now and he's doing great! My encouragement to you is to just keep leaning on the Lord and He will get you guys through it! Joas will recover with time! Just enjoy the "extra" time you have with him home. ❤

These accidents happen so fast. In a blink of an eye life takes on a whole different direction. One thing for sure is that you are close to the Lord and He is near to you. Healing will happen, whether through a miracle or through the surgery and natural healing. Keep those legs elevated as much as you can. I’m speaking from lots of experience. I’ve had multiple surgeries on my feet. Currently I’m dealing with a fracture of a vertebrae. I too am asking for God’s healing but this far haven’t experienced it. I see a neurosurgeon in late November as the fracture is complicated.

I had a couple ankle injuries and the pulled ligaments took weeks to heal. The game that i loved to play was basketball. So i had to use crutches for 2 weeks, and 2 whirlpool treatments. Thank God that my ankle healed in 2 weeks. Then back on the court for a college game. Joas has more serious injuries to overcome. Hopefully after the surgery he will be able to start walking again with no pain in his heels.God is good and can help you heal,hopefully in 5 or 6 weeks. Praying for Joas. Accidents happen. Three years ago I was standing on a little stool, putting my curtains up that I had just washed, when the stool tipped. I broke my left tibia in a few places as well as my left wrist. Some of what Joas shared brought back memories. I, too, went into shock. I had to have surgery on both limbs, so now I have two plates in my leg and one in my wrist. It was three months of non-weight bearing. I am so relieved that my daughter who was 15 at the time helped me at home. It was a trial for me. But I survived. You all have a good attitude. Blessings to you all.
